10 years later, Japan still makes the same joke. lol

I also forgot or just never knew that they call pads "sanitary napkins" in Japan.

"it's just deep and misunderstood tho. no fasc"
If you change the nationalities a bit, I could see Trump sponsoring this anime. lol

I don't recall Russia or America bombing medieval peoples.

it's an argument about disparate societal resources and tech levels, not literally medieval societies. The reference is presumably to Afghanistan (both sides) and Vietnam, I think.

Haven't seen Gate yet and don't really plan to, so just clarifying. Maybe.

I don't recall Russia or America bombing medieval peoples. It's a pretty silly argument you are making here. Using wonder weapons against an established state wouldn't be effective?
I mean this is a country with magic though. I can't believe that the only magic user in the entire world happens to be the powerful death goddess who wants to fuck the one Japanese guy. Surely they can get some magic elves to set up magic IED bombs or something. Or just send in kids full of knives into the camp to stab Japanese soldiers.

Yes. Maybe the last time it worked was the European enslavement of Africa, America and the Pacific Islands - but the difference there is that they were willing to commit genocide.

The magic user can't even stand against rifle, i doubt they can fight against bomber. Using child soldier against Japanese soldiers is a good idea. The lack of child soldier in GATE is strange, especially considering the fantasy land technology and culture.

Also come on, GATE is just pro-Japanese porn now. It's a fantasy how asymmetrical power is supposed to be so effective when both the Americans and Russians learned that it's literally impossible to bomb a people into submission. Yet here you have the Japanese just bombing these phantasy guys because of the most obvious reason in the world - rape.

I don't know if I'd call them fantasy guys. They are straight up Romans. It is odd that they don't have any wizard units, as there are human wizards (well one and I don't think I've seen him do magic beyond levitate a wagon). Even if they were just healing units. Even that seems limited given the scenes we've had of medics treating fallen Romans. Even in the manga, where I've read up to there isn't really much in the way of magic use.

Of course if they had proper magic users they probably wouldn't be so scared of dragons.

DAT SALT :p

IGA said SOTN was inspired by Zelda rather than Metroid for what its worth :p

For what its worth, Bloodstained will have a Classicvania mode so that should at least sate your appetite to some extent

Any kind of Metroid movie/television series/anime would just be aping the fuck out of Alien/Aliens and not even be close to how good Alien/Aliens are, so just imagine Ripley is Samus and it works anyway.

Someone should still be allowed to try

shaft mario&luigi anime

make it happen

I don't know if I want Shaft on the job but a Mrio & Luigi anime sounds mad appealing <3

The Nintendo X Shaft anime everyone wants.

Where is this from?

Most of the Igavanias have had that mode and, while fun, don't replicate the experience.

To be realistic, you'd have your hardliner faction turn against people who support the occupiers. Then the occupiers are left to blame for both the suffering that the civilian population faces and the violence that they create in the occupied country as a whole.

Think about all the Iraqis who are being killed for being supporters of the American occupation (and the fact that America isn't willing to protect them). The country with the power always loses the asymmetrical war because they aren't willing to actually offer the support that is needed to make occupation sustainable long term. It's why Syria is a shit show, for example.

Well, there's one death goddess... and she's apparently afraid of some other death god, so these beings do exist. Then again it's not like the story seems interested in exploring this aspect of the universe because it's much easier to write about the righteousness of Japanese fire power. lol

Pretty much posting shaft in jest but yeah, I actually do want to see a Mario and Luigi anime. It'd be great.

I think GATE is enjoyable but I understand its flaws quite clearly.
Though I also enjoy watching some shitty harem anime from time to time so my opinion isn't really valid lol

Well to me its just keeping to the modern army v ancient rome position. Which probably explains the lack of magic in the world.

Which is disappointing. Though maybe that's just my desire to see Thyatia v Alphatia animated. Maybe some other nerd will get that reference.

That blue haired girl that is in the JSDF camp then? Isn't she a sorceress or something?

Bubuki Buranki-2
K7NoxkK.jpg

Good question. Too bad we still don't have anything approaching an answer after the 2nd episode.
I don't even know where to begin with this. I really don't. Nothing has been explained or setup and instead it's like someone pissing on you and saying "Look at the rain drops!". I'm clearly supposed to be hyped up for the poorly established mecha fight instead of being remotely invested in these shallow tragedy-laden stories surrounding the heroes. This is insulting.

It's something Imaishi would have, and has done.

I guess I need to figure out what this Bubuki Buranki thing is since people are so flumuxed about it.

As an aside, I'm pretty sure this is the best English Cover of the One Punch Man OP theme I've seen. Y'all should check it out.

Most of the Igavanias have had that mode and, while fun, don't replicate the experience.

Do they? Level 1 cap or "playing as Richter" or whatever don't count. As the Kickstarter described it, its a legit Classicvania mode.

Derp, now I can see the scene in my head and I see what's going on :p

I know. It's a poor argument that doesn't apply here. They've bombing an established state, not attempting to subdue a hostile population in asymmetrical warfare. It's like arguing that dropping bombs on Germany and Japan would never work.

Yeah that's different but I've little hope for it being decent then as I doubt they're going to successfully roll out two versions of the same game.

There aren't really comparisons to be drawn between the scenario in Gate and real life scenarios like what we've seen in places like Vietnam, Iraq, or Syria. The environment in Gate is truly closed off, meaning modern weaponry isn't able to be fed to parties looking to rebel or resist.
To be realistic, you'd have your hardliner faction turn against people who support the occupiers. Then the occupiers are left to blame for both the suffering that the civilian population faces and the violence that they create in the occupied country as a whole.
I mean, some of that is there but Japan isn't really occupying fantasy land. They kind of just put their foot down to establish a base where the passageway between worlds is to prevent another attack.

And there is nothing more realistic than nations not having to answer for their war crimes, to be honest.

I mean I mentioned it a while ago but it's amusing that Japan just apologized for essentially raping Korean women during WW2 so, oh well. Probably not something that the dude who wrote GATE was ever thinking about though.

ACTIVE Raid 2

Much more typical episode for a Tokusatsu/Sentai/whatever show. The section chief having a sister that's substantially younger but identical looking is really a bizarre choice, lol. Getting to see the bureaucratic headache Rin has to go to was a nice touch. I really liked Asami still being stubborn in this ep but hopefully she cools down a bit in the following eps. The pop-ups joke was perfect. It's hard to make that one work without resorting to porn or something but this was just the right usage.

I think the show still moves a bit too fast though this ep was a lot better than the first. One of the problems I do have is that while the music OK, it really affects the mood and atmosphere of scenes. Everything has this same feel to it because it's always blaring and hardly ever fits.

The show also really likes sneaking in bits and pieces about the setting instead of info-dumping so it feels like the episode doesn't have room to breath at all.

Yu Yu Hakusho - 56

Miracle my ass, more like plot armor! I feel like the first fight of the final round underdelivered, which is a shame since I like Kurama in particular. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high.

Moving too fast? We spent a large portion of time watching the girl be angry at her coworkers for being late and another one being excited about an olde LED sign. Worst, much time was wasted on the Popups in the units.

So when you write a story, you have to have some sort of hook for the audience. Whether it's the characters(which should always be the case), mystery, self-insert or pandering shit, or setting. Obviously good writers/directors don't utilize just one but rather a combination of all of the above to try and grab readers/watchers. For example Erased has the mystery and setting aspect.

In Bubuki you might say the hook was the mystery. Only everything in the show is a mystery. Everything in the show. We don't know jackshit about any of the characters, even the MC has a 10 year gap that the audience doesn't know what he did. We don't know anything about the Bubuki or Buranki. We don't know anything about the setting other than it's a dystopia and it's in Japan. Oh and there's some sort of space ship thing. Apparently there's some time rewrite stuff too but the show hasn't bothered to explain that either.

Now I'm sure most of this will be explained but some of the most important episodes in any series are the first few. They serve to lay out who the characters are and the world around them. After two episodes of Bubuki Buranki, I feel like reading a plot synopsis on Wikipedia would be more beneficial at explaining things and people than actually watching the show. Who are any of these people who are opening their mouths?
Who-animated-GIF.gif

Watch this gif for half an hour and you have the amount of times I said the above outloud when watching Bubuki Buranki.
I can't even relate to the naive lead-in blank canvass because there is a 10 year gap where a bunch of shit went down and so even he seems foreign as he has childhood relationships set up that the show never bothered to show.

You then have random people complaining about other random people killing their dads or ruining their lives. Why should I give a fuck? Why? Why would you blow your load and have these characters meet each other in the first and second episode instead of waiting and making it climatic as the audience would have some basic context?

At least the shitty LN shows bothered to set up their characters.

It sounds like Divine Gate has some competition. I'm glad I dropped this after how awful the 2nd half of the first episode was.

How the fuck does being overseas excuse you from not knowing basic shit about the world you live in? Is China in a different dimension?

There's no indication that Bubukis or whatever are common knowledge among most people, and certainly there's no reason for the MC to know that he has Onpu's heart or whatever. The bad writing here is everyone else just expecting him to know everything they do and getting really upset with his denials as if he's intentionally misleading them.

But it's OK, because if something sounds stupid the first time, surely it won't sound stupid anymore after it's repeating over and over again, right?

However the excuse then would be it's classified not that he was overseas. Not to mention it can't be that secret considering they had a mech rip apart a city and there was the assumption that it appeared in the past.

I thought they clearly said that only one had ever fell from the planet above, so I dont think the bubuki & buranki are that common. Additionally it could just be that Reoko has the only one, or maybe just the four kings which could explain why they hold such great power and influence over the politicians in the first episode. Hii-kun's father was harmed, it could be many years previously many were put into isolation or eliminated.

That's the Buranki. The Bubuki are the mini living things. They can form or help form a Buranki I guess?

We also know there are multiple Buranki due to the OP.

One Piece 726

Here I am, watching the One Piece anime again because I always feel the need to check out the episodes where big shit happens and the anime usually does good by them. So I skipped 11 and a half minutes of not Gear Fourth so I could get to it and

Nope. Still looks dumb as fuck. The moveset is cool but did he really have to turn into a Rob Liefeld character? Oh well, it was in fact better then your average One Piece episode. So still not good. You tried.

Given the average persons knowledge of the most basic geographic facts outside their immediate locale I'm not going to start throwing stones or be surprised.

Of course the Buranki giant robots are known to him, but the Bubuki little robots are another matter. Not that this writing is really worth discussing in any meaningful fashion.
