Winter of Anime 2013 |OT -6| How much lower can we go?!

Oh yeah, physical retailers. How quickly I forgot they ever existed :lol

Come to think of it, I went into an FYE in a mall out of morbid curiosity a few months ago an noticed Sentai's Amagami SS Pt. 1 DVD release for $60. I swear that place is embezzling money for the mafia.

There's still an FYE near where I live. Haven't been there in awhile but they had a laughable amount of random single volumes at MSRP.

Even though their prices sucked I kinda miss Tower Records since they were open until midnight and fun to browse.

To my novice eyes, it kind of feels like a fake sale because cutting a percentage off of MSRP seems like standard pricing policy for Rightstuf, even on brand new releases. Kind of dishonest, but I suppose that tapping into over-eager collectors who aren't particularly price-conscious must work.

Does anyone ever actually sell anime at MSRP? I don't remember ever seeing a retailer ask $60 or $70 for an average Funimation/Sentai release.

Right Stuf usually sells pre-orders well below MSRP at first but a couple of weeks later the prices go back up. For example I preorder Acchi Kocchi for $30 when it was first listed and I checked recently and the preorder price went up to $38.

Yeah the FYE here will NEVER sell those individual volumes it has. I have seen many of them still there since suncoast went down. They do get some new boxsets in on occasion, and there is a Steins;Gate set, Kore wa zombie, Shangri La, Fractale, Shiki, and several other new ones sitting there unloved and untouched. They are also priced at MSRP so thats probably why. They also have a sizeable hentai section just above that shelf.

FYE keeps their porn section next to their anime section to make the anime look more respectable.

I thought Best Buy has high prices for anime, Target had lower prices, I remember I used to go their to buy my Naruto Shippudens. Hearing the people mispronounce Naruto made me cry :/

Sometimes AMZN is close to MSRP, had to cancel Kids on the Slope cause it was $63 there, and like only $41.99 on rightstuf, Phi Brain was close to like that too.

So far this season seems off to a great start in my eyes. There was no dilly-dallying about bringing Lan and Muginami back, and we got to see some of what they've been up to all along. More interesting, still, is that we get to see a bit of Dizelmine's personality as compared to Villaguillio's.

Gintama: Red Spider Arc (Episodes 177-181)

Holy crap, this arc was so freaking cool. Just everything came together so well. The pacing and direction were great, the villain was really threatening and the drama worked. So well thought out and expertly paced. Heck, it even made Tsukuyo and Zenzou, characters I didn't particularly care for, really likable and badass.

What I really was impressed by, though, were all the interesting artistic choices they made. Not only was the arc beautifully animated, the
Yoshiwara on fire[/spoilers] sections look great, but there were so many moments were they played with coloring to wonderful effect. The flashbacks being done in black and white or washed or green tones really brought something really interesting to the table. Where it worked the best, though, was the final fight. The black and white coloring used there was just stunning. The kind of ink-blot/street fighter IV effects on the characters gave the fight an amazingly fluid feel. It was stunning to watch.

Overall, such a fantastic arc. One of my favorites. Just so expertly executed.

Maturity, bitches.
I'll be frank. I've not heard of any of those shows. All I know is that they are not Mitsudomoe or YuruYuri.

Don't you mean make the porn look more respectable?

The joke was that our medium is lower than porn, but regardless, FYE lumps porn and anime into the same hidden-away-in-the-back-of-the-store area :lol I'm not bothered by it, it's genuinely amusing.

Has anyone ever actually seen someone purchase hentai/porn at FYE/Suncoast/etc. though? And I think I'm shameless taking NISA games to the register at Gamestop...

Be honest. You just liked that GinxTsuki superfuel.

I think Tsuki in general is kind of an annoying character. Her personality changes scene to scene, but she really worked here.

And in all honesty, I think all pairings in GinTama are kind of dumb. I don't think the show lends itself well to that.

I got the joke, I just thought I was turning it on its head. Guess not lol. At the couple fye's ice been to lately, I probably couldn't buy much anime even if I wanted to, cause the anime racks look like they've been hit by fucking nukes. You couldn't find stuff in those sections to save your life.

Words words words words words, but it's some interesting setup for the stuff that's likely going to go down next week. Quite the way to end the episode too.

Also, lololol at 2ch being a weapon of sorts against Sibyl

Pfft I could probably make that in my bathroom with some old towels and a couple of sharpies.
Sharpies? What a waste of resources. The industry is disgusting. You should use your own faeces to do it instead.
That's what pros do anyway wwwww

Encouragement of Climb 1-8

Viewing a 30 second ad for a 3 minute long show is not effective. I think I should be giving CR money...

All I know is, when the UK gets their now-seemingly-inevitable 5cm BD and it's region-locked, that's when I start flipping tables.

Take heart! I don't know if it's that inevitable at present. 5cm is still fairly easily available on DVD from Manga - I doubt they've got plans for a BD release at present. Voices and Place Promised... have been out of print for absolutely years since ADV Films went bust.

Place Promised, in fact, is the only Shinkai I've seen (and own - bought the R1 release). I should probably sort that out.

Wolf Children was announced in Italy too and not from Kàze, which fills me with a lot more confidence since Kàze's last few releases either had horrible dubs or no dubs at all.

Ah, I guess I should offer a bit of context -- I don't really care about owning physical copies of Voices or Place Promised, and I have the newer Bandai DVD of 5cm. Thing is, I know there's an international region-free BD version of 5cm from Japan that has both English voice and subs (and it also has Voices in the package, but that's not relevant), but of course that would be something like $80 after shipping. So if a cheaper English language version were released for an incompatible region...

Every time you talk about overseas release quality and jaggies or ghosting or that 1080i stuff I feel bad that I don't notice any of that crap.

Kamui the Great spinning his cards is so cool, yo, as Edji would say. Beach Vanguard episodes are always the best, just for how silly they get especially with their training sometimes (draw training, Kamui Morikawa, draw draw draw!).

[...]apparently the first episode of Evangelion used only 700 animation frames, while Angel Beats used around 11,000 in episode one!

what!?! o_O that's extremely low for a 20 minute episode(not including op), that's almost like a slide show(except the frames our spread out unevenly).

that's less that 1 frame a second average.

that's 0.58 frames per second average.

damn that's a powerpoint presentation.

I need to watch this movie when the DVD comes out here. Heard great things about it when it got released in theaters.

That does seem a bit extreme. I wonder if it was a typo for 7000.

Now I think of it, it's not suppressing since a lot eva is mostly just still frames with a few seconds of sakuga here and there spread out pretty very thin through out the 26ep's.

iuAsiAgY9vAc4.gif

(for those of you that don't know, this is not a still image but an actual gif)

it's not surprise eva was extremely low budget.
