Majin Bone 1
Okay, this is kind of weird. It could easily be a plastic shit show for preteen boys if not for the fact that the main protagonist is a porn fiend and there are occasional creeper shots of his osananajimi and such, because this is some kind of power suit anime with very toy-like suit designs rendered so cheaply in CG that only kids who have already been raised on
Danball Senki and the like wouldn't scoff at the sight of them.
Let's face it, that looks
bad. And it's going to be at the forefront in
every episode. But you know what? I still actually kind of
liked this episode.
I mean, it clearly has no unique qualities whatsoever--shounen kid is a regular shounen kid, awakens to a mysterious power, must fight for Da Earf--but I kind of like the way that it looks and moves outside of combat. It employs lots of flat shading that complements the relatively simple character designs and utilizes a color palette that straddles the toyetic line without ever going over; I wouldn't go so far as to say that it has a distinct look, but I liked it. The only other noteworthy technical aspect so far is that the OST is at least partially orchestrated, which is always a plus.
The main quartet is visually
really DTL-friendly so fair warning to those with a low bishounen tolerance, but, strangely, as I mentioned before, in spite of having the l
ook of something that would primarily appeal to young boys and fujoshi, the only character in the episode who is subject to any sort of camera "gaze" is female. I really do have no idea who exactly they're trying to target with this thing. Will watch more.
At the very least, ANN says that the character designer is Yuusuke Murata, who is best known for
Eyeshield 21 and
One Punch Man.
