No Game No Life 1
Holy shit I love this. I honestly wasn't expecting much from this one, but it's giving me all the right vibes. Feels very much like the setup of Mondaiji, with crazy OP protagonists being pulled from their own boring world to a gambling-driven world where they can put their skills to good use. And I really liked that setup in Mondaiji, which is why I was a little disappointed when the series ended up kind of average when all was said and done. Something about the execution of this one makes me feel optimistic that it will fare better.
I love how completely broken the main characters are in terms of skills. I love the dynamic between them (in fact, perhaps my only disappointment here is that we probably won't see any more of them back in their room playing online games together, because the way they functioned together as a perfect team in that environment was kind of beautiful in a weird way). Obviously I love the loli (and I won't deny I appreciated the delicious fanservice shot jgminto was so kind as to link). And I love the prospect of a series driven by a variety of high-stakes games.
Oh, and the colour scheme is somewhere around GoHands-filter levels of ridiculous, yet somehow it works. Looks really...distinctive.
Actually, though I said "my only disappointment" up there, there was one more thing that disappointed me about this episode - how soon it seemed to end. I haven't seen an anime that made 24 minutes feel like it went by so fast in quite a while. Really looking forward to watching more of this next week.
