Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

I love the look of this game and I just started to play Witcher 2 to try and get up to speed before it releases. I'm enjoying the story so far but I'm finding the combat frustrating, anyone have some suggestions/tips to make it a bit easier to manage? I'm playing on PC laptop and I've been using an xbox controller instead of trackpad/keyboard.

I'm only a few hours in, so I might just need to wait it out to get better gear and more skills. But it's been a big adjustment after playing Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2.

Interesting that the other video has HairWorks running at 60 FPS ultra and it doesn't seem to have a massive effect on framerate at all? Same rig. Surely they werent different builds? Seems odd.

Nope. None of them have hairworks enabled. What you are seeing is their in-house hair physics, which is identical to Gopher's video.

I did something terribly irresponsible.

It glows green.

Titan X?!

Did past Witcher games have areas that were more fantastical/magical or was it all open fields, castles and pig farmers?

I appreciate the Game of Thrones style grounded nature, but I also really like some of the more fantasy based stuff.

The point is kind of that the fantastical is mostly dead or in decay and the world is basically a socioeconomic dystopia. In Witcher 2 the most fantastic scenery was due to elven relics. It's afaik an 80s-90s take on fantasy, kind of like cyberpunk's dreary take on sci-fi at around the same time.

So I wouldn't really expect too much, but there's a little promise with the Wild Hunt.

From Red?

The next closest red is about 40-50% slower.
Titan X?!

Everyone hate mages.

Probably because they're cunts.

I'm currently playing Witcher 2 for the first time on 360 right after Dragon Age Inquisition and one thing I can say: I was expecting to think the jump from this gen to last would kill my eyes but whatever magic CD Projek did for the 360 version, my god! It's so awesome looking. I know PC version looks even better but damn they got the console version looking and running amazingly well. I have much faith in their console versions for 3.

Ah looking again looks like this is indeed the case. The in house hair physics are better than expected..

Interested to see the effect in action then, I know several sites played with hairworks enable and also reported 60FPS on a 980 rig.

Hopefully they will have it further optimized at launch.

Skyrim mods need dat VRAM.

Hopefully it gets good amount of listens, noticed link in retweet from Wither's twitter account.

thanks again, after talking with them both on and off the record, my hype meter went to a 1000, I haven't been this excited for a game since Halo 2

I hope much of The Witcher 2 cast make an appearance. I want to see Iorveth and Roache in the new engine.

Is that a fact or an opinion? Because if that's so then why disclose the PC version as well aside from showing off nvidia hairworks or other proprietary graphical or physics technology?

Last I checked the game had gone gold or was that only the PC version?

Its rational advice for purchasing any product. You shouldn't be preordering a game unless you have strong faith in the publisher/developer; whether footage is out there or not -- caveat emptor. If, for some reason, you really want to preorder this game anyway and console footage is what stands in your way, then it'll be out sometime this week, well ahead of release. Plenty of time for you to still make an "informed" preorder.

So that console owners can make informed decision about preordering the game. Most sane console owners know that it won't look as good as PC version on the highest settings (as they are shown off atm).

I am still confused about why is this even a debate? What other companies don't release games on all three platforms and lock ALL footage down to the PC version at present? I don't remember TW "downgrade" threads thus far have had anything to do with console versions or any other "downgrade" threads comparing the console version to PC version. Rather the assertions are based in chronology.

It sounds like someone should call all companies that develop games for all the platforms and tell them to show off the game that is only the highest settings on PC and then sell that as representative of how the game will actually look for everyone who buys the game (because that has gone over so well in the past).

The implication that some here are defending the idea of misrepresentation should CDPR (who are undoubtedly the creator of my favourite WRPG- yea, I have TW2 on 360) actually do it, is just sad.

Console owners will most likely be able to make an informed choice...once the console footage is released. I don't know why it needs to be released 3 weeks before the actual release date, there's still plenty of time. In the meantime, don't preorder the game, simple as that.

Stuttering has nothing to do with fps. Stuttering is a freeze that is based on a) memory lagging or getting filled in fast succession or b) clockspeed of the GPU suddently dropping to zero because of some optimization issue, driver issue or faulty processor.

The game had obvious stutters while staying above 60fps, mainly when walking from terrain to water, which was mentioned to be fixed now.

Huh? Stuttering can occur for several reasons, but it most definitely does occur, no matter what, if you drop below your display's refresh rate. This occurs with every game 100% of the time, every time you drop below that refresh rate, whether you are using triple buffering, double buffering, no vsync or whatever. The only exception, of course, is if you are using a gsync monitor, which is what I own.

The fact that we have seen perfectly smooth footage of The Witcher 3 leads me to believe that the stuttering in some footage is due to settings and the hardware being used. Where are the FPS counters showing us it was stuttering while running above 60fps. I haven't seen it.

Yeah there are at least 3 or 4 settings that they haven't cranked up all the way. Gamestar claims they were shown a newer build with all of them enabled and still running smoothly on a 980. Only time will tell.

The first thing I'm doing is going to that cave at the end of the angry joe video.

I'm kind of getting depressed thinking about all the things I won't be doing this summer because of the Witcher 3....

Is that you assuming or did someone state it? Because Gopher outright says every setting for him was ultra, bar one: hairworks.

I'm going by gamestar's article and Angry Joe's description.

From gamestar:

On our return we want equal continue playing, but Miles sends us first in the graphics options: "Now we can show the maximum graphic detail that is the first time" So we turn grass density and texture, water and terrain details are all based on 'Ultra' stroke!. Because in our face-PC (Intel i7-4790, 16GB RAM) also a Geforce GTX 980 slaves, we also select the option "Nvidia Hair Works". The result of our skin from the shoes!

AJ:

**Note this is NOT Final Build! There are a few bugs here and there that have since been addressed. (Loading, Water, Ground Textures, Boat movement, etc)

The assumption I'm making is that both are from the same preview event, though I can't say for sure. Really wish at least one of them had posted their settings in the video, instead of just saying "maximum possible", as that depends on what is exposed in that build.

The lazy gamer preview of the one's version sounds amazing. Everyone is going to be getting a great game, hopefully, regardless of what platform they are getting it on.

The hype. It's real.

Yep. Sounds like everyone is going to be pleased if even the 'worst version' is blowing people away.

I guess this doesn't have uber sampling either?

Also, how was it with the older witcher games? Were there inf files that can allow us to crank things up even further, like draw distance? Want to eliminate as much pop-in as possible.

That was my exact thought as I was watching it. I suspect bowls were smoked immediately prior to footage.

I had to mute them because it was excruciating listening to this guys. Glad I stuck it out because watching the card game be played out is actually kind of fun. Its interesting how you have to manage your cards to last two/three rounds.

I'm worried that they are still hiding keyboard+mouse controls (besides the gamestar test)

Was this in other witcher games? I like how you can scout the enemies and figure out weaknesses instead of just banging your head against a wall trying to kill something powerful.
Similar, but with "books" and "scrolls" instead of a bestiary.
Do you have a link?
It was mentioned in the AngryJoe video (when he first jumped into a lake)
Are we sure they're not counting water in there ? From that map video, it doesn't look that big. We will see.
Includes everything (tile size in the editor). Mountains, water etc.

Yeah, there were. Also, mods, like eatchildren's tweaks, upped teh grass rendering distance, shadow rendering distance, etc...
Switching from Red to Green is not irresponsible.

The fact that he has 12GB of VRAM.... that's another story :P

Haha, welcome aboard! It's the last card you'll ever need before Pascal Titan. :-)

It is an honor and a pleasure ladies and gentlemen.

What on earth are you talking about? Stuttering has absolutely nothing to do with refresh rate. Are you confusing it with screen tearing? I have 144hz screen but never experience any stutter even if the fps is 30. Stutter is a complete halt of video output, which has nothing to do with in-engine fps or screen refresh rate.

Microstutter is a term used to inconsistent frame drawtime, mostly problematic with SLI setups. Stutter is a term used for a complete halt of the picture, from the GPUs end.

Latter only happens when the hardware of conflicing with the drawcalls of the engine or it runs out of memory headroom and stalls to free it.

Do you think we will ever get mod support on consoles? I thought they were supposed to allow this for the current generation (xbone/ps4). Im curious because I think the modding community will be just as big with this game as they are with skyrim.

I hope the controls are better in this one.

I'm currently playing through the Witcher 2 right now and it feels like there's an unnecessary learning curve to the reticle movement. It's similar to GTA in free aim mode. There's like a weird dead zone where you start moving the right stick one direction and all of a sudden it'll rocket across the fucken screen. There's enough to pick up in the battle system as it is, fighting with the controls doesn't help.
