I can't be the only one who thinks it's weird to display damage fractions on the combat log? Floating damage text says 116 damage, combat log says 115.8. Definitely not a big deal (or something to be called even a deal lol), just strikes me as an odd decision.

It's always accompanied with talks of downgrades, which can easily derail a thread. But I mean... we don't have our hands on the game yet, so there's a finite number of topics to discuss. And The Witcher 2 gave the series a reputation of being somewhat of a graphical powerhouse. So visuals are definitely going to be a topic of conversation. It's unavoidable. But it also upsets people.
I love discussing visuals.

What "upsets" me about downgrade "discussions" on GAF and elsewhere -- and I'll be brutally honest here -- is that the vast majority of the posters engaging in them are simply not equipped to conduct it in any meaningful way. By that I mean that they compare apples to oranges, can't accurately distinguish between artistic and technical qualities and decisions, or between composition and ToD changes, asset changes, post-processing changes and rendering changes, or are getting emotional or accusatory. And when such people dominate the technical discourse on a game -- and that usually happens when "downgrades" are being discussed -- then it gets exceedingly tiresome to try and have a meaningful discussion.

As such, I'd much rather simply judge a game's graphics on their own merit.

Dear CDPR,
I have your game preordered since it's reveal and I haven't seen a single footage of it running on my platform of choice (PS4). The game will launch in a few days and you have shown the game running on powerful PCs that my rumble console can't match. Will you be kind enough to show me some footage before I start pulling my hair out of fear and curiosity?

Sincerely,
THEBONDIGTY

Well they still have like 16 days to show some and they said it's coming next week so I hope this diminishes your worry.

8h Preview on PS4 from PSX Extreme - Polish Magazine:

About optimization of PS4 pre-release version (without patch):

"I enjoy the fact that during fight with greater number of enemies - animation was solid, holding 30 frames per second"

"most upset were loadings after death or fast trip options - they took about 40 second, maybe in day-1 patch they will fix it"

"during a gallop objects appear in the distance"

"music delights"

I'm still thinking that Witcher is going to be GOTY :)

Sounds like it is going to be just fine. I don't mind the load times during fast travel or after dying, as there are none while while entering buildings and such. I also expect some pop-in from a game this large. No biggie.

Regarding the autosave discussion, I wish the game autosaved invisibly say every 3 minutes to some 10 (or more) slots and cycled between those. I dislike having to manually save these days. Takes me out. There was a mod for Fallout 3 that did this in an amazing way, it was probably best save system I have ever seen. Too bad nobody adopted it in actual games.

Boom. Exactly what makes downgrade discussion so fucking exhausting for me. I love discussing technology and rendering, downgrades included, even with my limited knowledge. But the discussion is frequently polluted by misinformation and poor analysis from people who are even less information and inquisitive. There's no dialogue to be had, it's just pissing and moaning about screenshots and footage that subjectively doesn't "look as good" as a completely different set of screenshots and footage.

Good thing you can save with 1 button on the PC :)

Quicksave on PC is a god send in every game, even though sometimes I screw myself over by using it too often and accidently saving right as I die or in a really awkward place.

I agree. It is really tiring to constantly read discussions about how it looks now compared to how it did. Personally, I really don't care, I just want to play the game not analyze every strand of grass or cloth.

Yeah. I'm also sure there are some people that are just dying to be outraged and wait for the smallest differences from the initial footage released in order to be able to shout "downgrade!" on the roofs.

This shit has made Witcher threads unreadable for the past few months. I'm glad we can finally have a thread where there are some actual discussions about the gameplay, story, art...

If there is substantive evidence provided, I find this kind of thing very interesting. As others have said, it is unfortunate that the bulk of the commentary is either incorrect or provides specious evidence.

I'd even say that analyzing every strand of grass is fine in a technical thread. As long as you are actually performing meaningful analysis.

Posting .gifs is not analysis.

Does anybody know if the console builds, in Australia/EU specifically, will have dual language support? A friend is interested in grabbing the PS4 build but would prefer to play in Polish.

Bah, I'm starting to see NPC repetition. I knew it had to happen, but I was hoping it wouldn't be as obvious.

I'm seeing the repetition as well, but something to keep in mind is that these NPC's we're noticing as repetitive might be dozens of hours apart storywise, or on opposite ends of the world. We've seen a big mix of footage/screenshots, so perhaps it won't seem quite so apparent when actually playing.

I've seen that particular npc face in 3 places. Two in these screenshots and the other was the village alderman that
cuts off his ear
. It might just be chance as I haven't seen many others being repeated.

The one with the hat.

Well, I thing that is the same guy.. because he is giving Geralt gold and says that all people from the village had put their gold together just for him.. maybe they changed his clothes in the time, or this is other quest with him where he is dressed differently, but just coming from the dialog I assume he is the same guy..

I have seen all videos, and I have never saw that guy from the 5th screenshot..

I actually hope TW3 is less dense than Skyrim. I'm tired of open world games with points of interest every 100ft. I'd like things to be believably spaced out for a change. Not realistically to the point where you spend too much time getting from place to place, but enough to where you don't get potato land like in Skyrim. From the looks of it, even though each of TW3's main maps is bigger than Skyrim, I wouldn't be surprised if each one actually had fewer settlements and caves.

It looks like it is going to have more than enough traveling through gorgeous scenic routes, but also plenty to do. Which is the way I like it as well.

That article was absolutely fantastic. It is nice to see that Czech version has such dedicated translators, it is pretty much confirmed that CZ will be the best version with Polish just like previous two games (and books).
Looking forward to playing it in Czech, with English voice acting.

Translate it :P

All the new shots look great.

I admit that since I haven't kept up to date with this game as much as others, I've fallen into this trap a bit. The only thing I can say for sure is that the game doesn't have per object motion blur anymore, which is something I value higher than most.

I'm sure there will be some great laughs in this game, it always has a few good chuckles. If not by what some say then by their reactions.

The atmosphere....such grand atmosphere in these games.
