Witcher 3 gameplay from YouTubers from CDPR event

It was a genuine question.
7 !?! Sweet Lord above! There should be an option (DVD or BluRay) at this day and age.

I know it was, but it's not that weird at all haha. Also most people don't have a bluray drive in their PC, serves no purpose. I don't even have a DVD drive since it would look ugly on my pretty 750D :3

I am still waiting for pre-load announcement on PC. They are probably under NDA/contract with MS that is why pre-load is up on X1 for weeks now and PS4 and PC are only getting "Soon" treatment. I mean if they don't know when will be pre-load on GOG there is something wrong in that company :D

Why are we assuming it's MS blocking preloads and footage? I'm not being dense but you guys mind showing proofs or quotes?

Game went gold weeks ago, game is available for pre-load on X1 and not on other platforms. If we take in consideration certification process on PS4 there is still question why there is not pre-load on Steam/GOG. even if we take in consideration that they are afraid that somebody will look at files on PC and spoil game there is still no explanation why pre-load is not live on Steam because every pre-load on Steam is encrypted and you can't access files before release day.

There is no proof but how would you explain this situation?

They've said yesterday they will post info about PC - Steam/GOG preload soon. So just wait. What's the point to have it on disk when you can do nothing with it? :D They will give us time, it's more than one week before release. ;)

PS4 footage has been confirmed for today by Sony Poland and CDPR.

Steam, GOG, Origin... preload has been confirmed to start within next few days. They are most likely pushing most recent build into service servers [I guess will have day 1 patch in it] and GOG just started to push out Galaxy beta. Good way to test Galaxy is to have it in hands of many users when TW3 preload goes live.

When we get XBO footage? Anyones guess, but depends on when MS gets off its arse and does something about it like Sony did.

Edit: Also preload won't leak major story twists if CDPR has been smart about naming their files, which I assume they have. We are likely to get stuff like rough estimates on weapon amounts and such if people datamine files.

Yep, I do. Microsoft have marketing deal with CDPR. No Xbox One footage still. We're getting PS4 today (from two sources).
There.

Sorry but that's your own conclusion. Reread what you said previously. You're saying we're getting footage from Playstation Poland because MS failed to deliver and tried to trick us into thinking PC footage was from Xbox One. Ok...

Plenty of times when we get Steam preload withing a few days from release. I see nothing different here. And from what I hear GoG didn't have a preload system until now, so what gives? Hell I just received a email to beta their new Galaxy client.

They had preload for W2 also they said yesterday on the live stream that they can't talk about GoG preload but that there will be enough time to preload it.

I know and I don't dispute that, I'm just replying to the couple of people that claim there's no preload because of Microsoft, and that Sony came through with the console footage because once again, Microsoft...

And thank god the footage dropped today, conspiracy theorist must be feeling a little silly right now.

Probably should have bolded the fact about the preload, since that's the only thing I was replying to.

And i said to you that i can understand that PS4 pre-load could be because certification process. But i can't understand that they don't know when game will be up for pre-load on GOG. They know when pre-load will start because they know it will be soon and it will be early enough so we can download game. They just can't tell us officially. If game is in Gold phase and it is up for pre-load on X1 there is no reason to hold pre-load for GOG and Steam.

I don't care when we will get pre-load honestly i just don't like how CDPR behaves lately. From their marketing campaign to their communication with players in some cases. They changed a lot in past year or two.

Ok I see where you're coming from but I will be surprised if it doesn't come next week. I also think the preload being early for Xbox One has nothing to do with the other platforms, as I've shown with Destiny being up earlier on Xbox than Playstation, despite Sony having the deal for that game.

The thing I found odd, is Youtubers claiming CDPR didn't nail down the keyboard/mouse controls at the time of the preview event. That seems awful late to refine the controls but that's just me.

Yeah, its weird. Gopher said that after filming he actually did play with them for a half hour and they worked just fine. So maybe it isnt control issues but the ui isnt as clean as it could be. For instance, the brief glimpse of "SHIFT" and "SPACE" buttons that pop up during Angry Joe's video was a real eyesore, the black background of the button was darker than the UI element surrounding it.

Did the geforce website replace those fairly unexceptional looking Witcher 3 GameWorks screenshots with older press shots? See here: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/ar...witcher-3-wild-hunt-nvidia-geforce-gtx-bundle . The bear, horse, and city shot are gone. Or were they only released to the press?

I love the detail they put into the world. It makes it believable. You see the cracks in the castle walls and it makes it feel as if its been there for some time. Awesome

Good for them? They can continue to bitch and complain, while the rest of the gamers who don't obsess over graphics will be having fun instead.

so, apparently the steam community created a "downgrade" album

It'd be a lot more compelling if it was a frame-to-frame comparison, insteada of vaguely similar shots.

But, really, it's like no one understands how pre-release footage and optimisation works. This isn't a Dark Souls 2 case where, suddenly, huge elements of the visual appearance changed by release, in spite of (pretty much?) all pre-release footage. It's like complaining that the Wild Hunt leader's armor got downgraded from its first appearance, simply because it looks different now.

Did they even try when they half arsed that garbage together? Most of the shots aren't even close to being from same areas, time of day etc. and rest are just "Hey look, picture of bugged model. Downgrade!" material.

I still say lets talk about #downgradegate when we have game and we start to get high quality videos/shots from Ultra settings. Even then most gamers won't care too much if gameplay is fun and engaging.

I seriously can't understand how people do not see that the assets like grass are EXACTLY the same. Sharpening filter gives them just a bit more detail, because that's what it does.

Other things are obvious trollbaits comparing a bullshot to a purposely found glitched image that very likely won't look like that in the actual game (like the flying monster textures etc.) Well, what do you know.

Pre-Release Rabble: "WTF! The graphics suck now! CDPR you downgrading shits!"

Post-Release Rabble: "WTF! Why can't my GTX 660 run this on 60FPS at 1080p?! Optimize your games CDPR!"

One change that is evident is the artstyle, which imo the game is much better for now. More realistic colour palette, and less bloom and sharpening.

The grass has always struck me as looking worse. That's one thing which has never gotten better in these screens. But it also covers an expensive set of assets, it has much lower apparent variety in older screens, and it all looks dead. Other than perhaps the first set of pics, the rest of these are apples/oranges.

You can find older pics which don't look amazing, i.e.

All I know is that the optimized and finished product looks absolutely stellar. Like Rockstar levels of good. If that is what is considered a 'downgrade' then I will gladly take it.

Anybody know how Witcher 3 will handle save file management?

I don't wanna be stuck waiting five minutes for the main menu to load the 5 gigs of quick saves I've racked up over the course of the game.

This is one area I'll concede is potentially "downgraded" versus older footage (eg: Sword of Destiny trailer) and that's overall foliage quality. I still think it looks gorgeous and dense, and that trailer wasn't without pop-in and such, but there are still/scenes which to me show a higher quality foliage (sharper assets, higher resolution transparency, less quality reduction at distance) especially on grass. I do wonder if it was toned back for performance reasons, or if supersampling + sharpening in the older footage gave an illusion of detail.

Regardless, there's no open world game on the market pushing foliage like Wild Hunt, so it's hard to complain. GTAV is the only contender for superior foliage tech, but that's Rockstar, and it comes at an insane performance cost. Downgrade or no downgrade, I do with CDPR and their engine would allow for more flexibility in tweaks, such as foliage LOD distance, for those who do want to try cranking up the quality to insane degrees. Shame it's baked into the assets.

I'm pretty sure the change on the foliage is to allow it to move in the wind, it didn't move as much as it seems to in the more recent footage, I agree that I've been thinking the grass and foliage has been changed a bit but I think it's just to accomodate that animation and it looks much better when the game is moving than still shots.

Another big change is the amount of bloom desaturation in the older shots which they seem to have adjusted to make the game look more full of life and more fantastical. Honestly I seriously don't see much of a downgrade except for that picture of the corner and the crack (lol) but I'd almost bet that the top pic in that comparison is the more right one.

I don't remember where I saw it, but I believe they said they're finally doing an overwriting autosave file, which is 2 games overdue.

Another thing I'd like to know about is if there has been any confirmation of a storage box for items that you don't want to hold with you? They added a box to the EE of W2 surely there will be a box?

I hate to post "that GIF" again, but it does show that the grass moved just fine. No reason they couldn't also have it "blow in the wind."

Sucks, but I also think the foliage looks... less than stellar now. But what can you do. The game has a pretty massive scale, and they probably didn't have the time\budget to get that hand-placed grass in every location of every game. I'm willing to bet they just polished up a few areas they had available in order to make a trailer that wowed us. It happens.

Also, regarding the recent "downgrade comparison," the corner of that wall does look a lot worse. But the rest looked like sarcasm, right? I mean.... right?

Trying to come up with an OT subtitle. If anyone can help me think of anything or wants to chip in some suggestions then please fire away.

I'm terrible at coming up with funny names.
