With all major gaming shows cancelled, how will...

The high end PC is going to take up more space, even though at least XSX is larger than usual for a console.

Mostly will go Digital screening route like MS, problem solved..you're Welcome 🤜🔥🤛
IF and I say IF because most companies dont bother to keep up with tradition if companies still do an "E3" they will do it with a soulless digital direct that explains nothing in grave detail "xbox directs, Sony direct ect". IF companies dont then were screwed for a good half of the year E3 is the only important dead line type date that companies had to make throughout the entire gaming year every other expo is chump change. But that also means that now these companies can opperate like rock star and say nothing for months to years on end if they want to.
Bare in mind MS showed off the One before E3 in its Campus at their HQ in May 2014. I suspect we'll just seem some of that along with digital show specials on the likes of This Week on XBox. Same for SONY.
For most people, they had to stream E3 anyway. The worst part was E3 allowed consumers to play the actual games, after the briefings.

That's a bit of a loss, like E3 or not.

Like Espada said; E3 was the only deadline these companies had to keep and had to make. I think it will have a knock-on effect if they don't have to stick to a deadline.

Going digital is fine, we watch it on the internet anyway. The problem is, when do we watch it? We are now at the mercy of Microsoft/Sony to give us information and when they give it. Leaks will become non-existant and it may make the 'conference/announcement' side of gaming extremely corporate and stale.

Only time will tell

Major gaming shows are essentially reduced to streaming events, and it changes the nature of the hype, the mood the OP is talking about, E3 hype is real, what's going to happen is developers, and publishers dealing with this in their own way.

there's this thing called the internet. they'll be fine if they learn to adapt.

plus some studios/publishers don't even need to bother with much marketing. Remember when Rockstar got everyone going crazy when they posted a picture of their logo. It was designed similar to old RDR artwork and that was enough... people went bananas. Cyberpunk tweeted "*beep*" and people just lost their minds.

we don't need archiac things like E3 anymore. Nintendo have their directs, Sony ditched E3, and as much as Microsoft wanted to lick E3's spicy crusty butthole they are being forced to get with the times and do their own live stream.

the only people really affected will be smaller studios or indie developers.

Well have leaks and all that . Most of the info is out for the Xbox . I really think all people care about is now seeing games running on the Hardware and that games are coming .

How will we have leaks? The majority comes from 3rd parties who have to be informed about the game being demo'd. Or someone who works at the venue will see a sneak peak or overhear something.

If it's all digital, then everything happens behind closed doors.

Yep we will be 100% reliant on when they do it e3 was the middle man in this equation that pushed for some of these games to get reviled or even talked about or in some extreme cases even made. Leaks wont happen because these direct wont happen even Nintendo is thinking about pulling out of more events.

How will all gaming companies, developers and publishers keep players hyped over the yearly summer drought?

In years gone by, gamers are strung along on the promise of new games and are usually given a few freebies during E3.

How will these companies now advertise to the 'masses' if there are no major events?
YouTube?

We still get leaks on what's going to be shown on Nintendo Direct at times. When a developer is ready to show its game off at a show like E3, that means the game is to be shown off at some point very soon; So at worst we might have to wait a few weeks later. I also think you're taking 'digital' a little too literary. MS did show off the Xbox One in its campus at the HQ in May 2014 in front of an audience and the press.
There's nothing stopping SONY or MS doing that in the summer in their HQ's (or SONY USA subsidiary) other than a complete lockdown. If that happens, seeing games inactions will be the least of our worries and games development it's self will need to stop (given the size of Teams these days)
