With Quantum Break going PC who is ditching the X1 in favor of a new rig?

ukJAr9w.jpg

et tu, Microsoft?

Preordered on XB1.....

-Getting free code to play on my gaming rig with my 2600k, 16gigs of ram + 980ti because I preordered on xb1.

-Getting a free Alan wake game as well with preorder on the console.

Getting best of both worlds. =D

apart of me feels like MS is in a fluid situation. knowing the cant win the console race no matter what it seems like they are giving something different a shot. Very possible a new Xbox could come out with another strategy in the future

Alan wake is on the PC, is dirt cheap and is by far the superior version. You think you're getting the best of both worlds but you're not.

I'll be buying all single player and co-op games on PC from now on. Competitive shooters I can only play on console, since kbm aggravates my wrist/shoulder.

Are there any advantages to playing American Nightmare on console you played the Alan Wake base game on? I played the original before AW came to PC, but never picked up American Nightmare. I was thinking of preordering this partially because of that.

I think it's standalone. Regardless, American nightmare is £1.74 on steam right now.

Replace "TV stick" with "TV box" and I'll agree with you.

It's obvious that Xbox is going in a direction in which games will be playable on various Windows devices with crossplay/cross buy.

Xbox is still a big name in console gaming and it would be silly to not continue the brand alongside the people who've been supporting it the most (console/"TV" gamers).

That would be STB (Set top Box) I also said TV stick because as time go by it will be small enough to fit into a HDMI Stick.

Xbox One might be look down on vs PS4 but it will be maybe 10 years from now before the games stop looking good to everyday people so if they can get the Xbox One specs into Set Top Boxes & TV sticks it will satisfy the everyday person & it will reach a lot more people than the Xbox One it's self.

Exactly how I feel. I'm good with both.

The very premise of the thread and OP is why MS has been so hesitant to bring their IP to PC. Why would anyone seriously invest in Xbox hardware if their PC could get all the same games? And yet if these games aren't on steam you'll still have tons of complaining. This year alone I think Recore, Gears Ultimate, Halo Wars 2, Killer Instinct, Crackdown 3 and now Quantum Break will be PC as well.

Maybe that's the future. Xbox as a service, focus on PC as much as hardware division.

Lol. The best of both worlds is getting the pc version of QB with the preorder on my XB1. After working in front of a computer screen all day doing reports and having to review things at my job, half the time I do not want to sit in front of my computer at home gaming, and prefer doing so on the console on the tv, without having to move my high end gaming rig somewhere.

How are people seeing this as a bad thing. It rewards pc gamers who also own the console platform. Not to mention offering the the game on windows 10 expands the potentially user/install base greatly. MS has been hinting of something like this for the future for some time now. I think cross play is a step in the right direction. And after finding out one purchase would allow me to play it on either console or pc was a no brainer purchase for me. Wish they would have done this for rise of the tomb raider as well.

And finally, IMO, i think this cross play feature and games on pc (even if it's win10 exclusive, which still ensures ms having an install base on a platform) will allow for great games to have a better chance of getting sequels funded/made.

I already have a powerful PC rig.

I feel like I may just ditch the Xbox One all together at some point. I got Rise of Tomb Raider and by the time I finished the prologue the PC version was out already.

Now Quantum Break is getting same release on PC, there isn't much reason to keep the Xbox. I know you can buy digital on Xbox and get the free Windows 10 PC version, but still getting a Steam key will most likely end up cheaper.

The Porsche expansion for Forza 6 is the only thing keeping me from getting rid of the Xbox.

If Halo 5 comes to PC I am not getting an Xbox One Slim that's for sure. And I've posponed the purchase again and again. Too many games to buy this year that are going to leave me constrained to even think of pouring $300 on an Xbox One.

Just this month alone: Unravel, SFV, PvZ: GW2. That's $120+ ....then...Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank. PS4 U4 LE upgrade. I'll be losing $100 easily on it.

I think it'll go from Xbox platform to Windows 10 platform from now on, and we'll here about Windows 10 family sales in PR etc. I'm not sure that MS is losing much on this, they make money from selling Windows 10 and the games too so in the end I think it'll probably lead to an increased income anyway.

Xbox will essentially turn into a cheap Windows 10 set top box from now on, as an alternative if you don't like to spend $1000+ on a gaming rig, and Windows 10 on PC will be their premium solution for those that aren't satisfied with the lower framerates and resolutions on console games.
As a PC gamer I'm very pleased with this move, I already use both PS4 and XB1 for the exclusives only and play all multiplats on PC for the framerate and graphics, while playing QB at 30fps would be quite okay it'll still be better to play it at 60-144fps. Now I just wish that Sony would let me play their games at higher framerates too, but it'll obviously never happen since that would be like giving the games to MS unless they make them Linux exclusive or something like that.

I thought we were past this whole "playing games on my PC reminds me of work" rubbish. If that is the case why even own a high end gaming PC? There is an option (more than one option in this day and age actually) to play PC games on your TV. Some of which wouldn't even involve having to move your PC. Its not a flaw of the platform, you are just choosing to make it an issue for you. I cant relate to this at all. My gaming PC has been a permanent fixture in my entertainment center for the best part of 5 years now and I wouldn't change it for the world.

For people who own both platforms but only intend to play the game on their PC the xbox one pre-order "deal" is not actually that great a deal considering you will be able to get the game cheaper from places other than the xbox one store over the coming months.

In my book the best of both worlds is being able to play the same games in superior quality on your TV for a cheaper price. I just find it strange that you would celebrate alan wake being thrown in when you already own a platform that can play it natively at a far superior quality.

My man! Almost exact same specs too. Good to see gamers who see the positive from this. I can't believe all the negativity I'm reading after waking up this morning

I don't want to single you out because you are not the only one having this misunderstanding.....

Sony does make games for windows. They have for quite awhile. And they pay microsoft nothing and it's a stretch to say they benefit microsoft in any way. Making applications for windows is a free ride for anyone with no regulation of any kind. Sony putting playstation games on windows is not like giving the games to MS.

I never said playing games on pc reminds me of work first off.. What I said was trying to say was that after having to be glued to a terminal at work for 8hrs sometimes (especially towards the end of the week the last thing I want to do is use my my gaming computer/PC for an additional few hours to game as I will not enjoy it as much vs using it on the weekends or after I feel refreshed.

As for owning a gaming PC, there are still pc exclusive games Like Star Citizen, Natural Selection among other things that are better played with a keyboard and Mouse. And yes certain games, especially FPS games are played better on PC especially if I can max out the graphical settings. Not to mention that I do have friends who live in other parts of the world that I game with who do not have a console at all. And I have backlog collections of other games from years ago that are only available on my pc. And PCs are the only platforms that can support flight sticks for the moment.

As for me not wanting to have my gaming pc and rig by my TV entertainment system in would result in my potentially monopolizing the home media area in my house. I own 2 XB1's (one for me and my fiance' so that she can game when she feels like it and it also acts as a spare for when my brother comes over.) I have one system connected to the tv, (bedroom) the second XB connected to a $200 27in monitor in a spare room with a couch and another area that contains my gaming PC (and another monitor).

And your comment "not actually that great a deal considering you will be able to get the game cheaper from places other than the xbox one store over the coming months" makes no sense here as you are getting the PC version of the game and the console version of the game day one for ONE price $60. What if I do not want to play the game in a few months? Many people here on gaf, myself included have been double dipping on games when they eventually release on PC for the increased graphical fidelity after the game has been out for more than a year. Now we are getting that double dip for free. That my friend is an amazing deal and the way its looking the game may not release on steam or GOG. And considering how digital games have been always priced higher than physical game deals the fact that you are having the potential tp play on two platforms, PC and console makes it a deal.

The console space has always catered to an affordable gaming platform at a fraction of the cost of a gaming PC. Between buying an OS, Monitor and other peripherals for a gaming pc (not talking about an AMD FX6300 CPU gaming rig either) will run you on average a solid $700 if you want a decent performing machine. And that's decent and not great. Thus consoles are amazing for their low cost, low maintenance and hassle free upkeep that's very portable.

And getting an alan wake game for free is not a major selling point, but an added bonus as I have collections of games on both PC and Console.

So if you own an xbox one and a gaming PC and are complaining about the game releasing on windows 10 pc and now saying that you have no use for your xbox, just seems ridiculous to me, as an intelligent person IMO does not just buy a $300+ system for just one game. And for the foreseeable future you will probably be able to own many more games for both platforms for one price and possibly day one if MS continues with this cross play feature.

So how do gamers who love both xbox and PC platforms think this is not an awesome deal/idea?

Money isn't everything, if that happened then Microsoft could start saying that Windows 10 is the best gaming platform, XB1 exclusives, PS4 exclusives, multiplats, all at one place and all at 60+ fps with the right hardware. If PC gamers could play Uncharted 4, Driveclub and Bloodborne at 60+fps on Windows 10 then why would they need a PS4? A move like that would definitely be like a gift for MS.

Got it. I still think that having Live as the requirement for a Steam purchase would allow you to register the digital license and enable the benefits of cross buy.

I believe they'll start all this off by trying to push the Windows Store first and see what kind of traction they're getting. I wouldn't be surprised if they test a title or two on Steam eventually.

Both the CEO and Spencer laid all of this out early last year. They both said the vision was to allow Xbox gamers to play their games on any Windows 10 device they want. Frankly, I'm surprised it took them this long.
Yep. How anyone is surprised by this is beyond me. The only part of this announcement that is a little surprising is that the PC version is only free for preorders and not just a standard feature of buying it digitally. I would have thought they would want to go for the unified library approach, but this could also just be a test case for future plans.

Most of their 2016 lineup is coming to PC:

Quantum Break (Xbox One & Windows 10) – April 5, 2016
Halo Wars 2 (Xbox One & Windows 10) – Fall 2016
Fable Legends Open Beta (Xbox One & Windows 10) – Spring 2016
ReCore (Xbox One & Windows 10) – 2016
Sea of Thieves (Xbox One & Windows 10) – 2016
Gigantic (Xbox One & Windows 10) – 2016
Cuphead (Xbox One & Steam) - 2016
Killer Instinct: Season 3 (Xbox One & Windows 10) – March 2016
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Windows 10) – Spring 2016
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition (Xbox One & Windows 10) – Spring 2016
Cobalt (Xbox One, Xbox 360 & Steam) – Feb. 2, 2016

The only exceptions:
Gears of War 4 (Xbox One & that Gamestop leak tho) – Multiplayer Beta in Spring 2016/Launch in Fall 2016
Crackdown 3 (Xbox One) – Multiplayer in Summer 2016

That is quite a bit.

I keep seeing posts about Gears 4 and Scalebound coming to pc also. Have i missed something.

I don't get the fuss of QB coming to pc, its a Remedy game. It was always going to come to pc one day - may as well be there for release and achieve good sales this time around. Hopefully allowing for AW2.

I thought on and off about getting an Xbox One at some point. Honestly didn't really want to buy one for one or two interesting games so the fact they're coming to PC makes the decision easy for me.

I bought my Xbox One to play these games and they are still coming as 'console exclusives' all the same. Nothing has changed for me.

Yup that's me to...for the most part. I bought the XB1 solely for exclusives, PS4 and PC (i5 4590, GTX 970) for multiplats.

However, if this trend continues the thought of a game like Forza Horizon 3 at 60fps on PC would be very tempting...

I'm probably going to sell my Xbox One(maybe, thinking about it),my PC though is already high spec.Only things making me think hard about not selling though...Halo,Sunset Overdrive and Forza

Scalebound and Gears 4 all X1 exclusive, so why give up the X1?

Also, Windows 10 versions are locked and could miss graphic features you would other wise get from a Steam version.

Look at Rise of the Tomb Raider. I rather have Steam versions of these games and the real PC community behind them with mods and such.

So how do gamers who love both xbox and PC platforms think this is not an awesome deal/idea?

Because it is a short term viewpoint while MS are signalling "we are giving up on investing in unique content for Xbox." You may as well prepare for the move to Xbox going hardware free on Windows Store.

Look at the Vita. Software support gone, faith in the platform gone.

There is a surprising amount of perk you get from creating an ecosystem full of USP. Evidently the message from above is to absorb Xbox into Windows and start hammering the storefront angle. That will probably be pretty bobbins for them investing in games.

Unique content makes your platform attractive. It's not like there aren't alternatives either.

Weird how quite a few posters agree with the person you were responding too.

Stupid gamers, thinking they know whats best for their needs ...

Look at Rise of the Tomb Raider. I rather have Steam versions of these games and the real PC community behind them with mods and such.

Well yes, here is the other side of the problem. Microsoft as a software vendor doesn't have the clout in unique titles to make people want to fragment their storefront purchases. Hell, even EA's content isn't enough for me to buy anything from them - I'd rather not have their titles.

The crux is you-need-exclusive-content-to-make-your-platform-look-attractive-and-invested-in. Nintendo get a shit load of grace because you know they are going to support their platform with unique titles. As a PC owner, theirs is actually the most appealing platform. A PS4 is debatable. An XboxOne is effectively redundant.

With all the recent outcry from Xbox One owners over the PC release of Quantum Break, I have to say I'm stunned at the amount of people complaining over how it's expensive to game on consoles because of the monthly/yearly subscription to Live/PSN. And how it's not fair for Xbox owners that PC gamers will enjoy the better looking version of the game without paying for Live...

Do these people even know the cost to build a decent rig?

I don't game on PC just because of how expensive it would be. Quantum Break's recomended video card alone costs more than an Xbox One for Christ's sake!

Having said that, if Gears 4 hits PC day one, then I'm getting a PC.

To be honest, if the news was just that this game is coming to PC, then I wouldn't care, but it was coupled with the rumor that Gears and Scalebound might also be coming to PC (due to the GameSpot posting that they took down or whatever). It just makes me wonder how many future X1 exclusives are going to release that interest me. I originally bought my X1 because there were five exclusives that interested me, and a multiplat that I really wanted to play that would have run me several hundred dollars extra dollars to get the same experience on the PS4. Two of those exclusives are now coming to PC (Killer Instinct and Quantum Break). Looking at the upcoming X1 games, and the fact that a lot of first-party X1 titles are coming to PC, it seems very likely that I'll own less than a dozen X1 titles by the end of this generation. Which, is kind of frustrating and disappointing for me. I don't know if it's enough to make me sell a console but across every single major platform ever released, there have always been well over a dozen titles that I wanted to purchase on them. That includes platforms like the Sega Saturn and TG16.

I bet MS execs see reactions like the ones to this on Twitter and think about how they can't win.

Remember how any time Microsoft mentioned PC gaming, people would shitpost with that timeline saying "look at all these empty promises, MS hates PC bla bla"? Now they finally take action announcing some Xbox->PC titles, and people are crying "Xbox is dead why would you let more people play these games?".

Seems nobody is pleased either way. PC is the best of every world as a platform, people should rejoice that exclusives are "breaking free" from being locked to one platform.

Why would anyone seriously invest in Xbox hardware if their PC could get all the same games?

People want a relatively cheap, easy way to play Xbox games they get an Xbox.

Otherwise build a PC.

The value proposition exists but I think it's fair to say it doesn't really apply to most people who post on gaming forums because they likely already have a gaming pc or are considering it.

People might own a PS4 and a PC, in which case yeah they aren't buying hardware but if they're gaming already on the PS4 they aren't going to spend a ton of money on the Xbox outside of the exclusives. In which case MS doesn't have to lose money on a piece of hardware to sell you a couple games.

I'll still get it for XBO and if things change I just updated my PC. I got a new CPU, motherboard, and recently got a new video card this last fall.

I mean, there are definitely tempting options. NewEgg had some great deals going on over the last few weeks.

Well it is not the same people who posted the time line and the people who is outraged because of Pc QB release.

I think the people posting the time line are pretty happy with how this has turned out so far.

XBOX1 300$ + resell options for retail games + no need upgrading.
Decent PC is quickly 800$ + no resell option at all for games + constant need of upgrading.
