With the next generation of consoles I'm hoping for a reset to simple graphics (for the kids)

Poor Ray.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean OP. But I will say this. I miss being impressed by the evolution of graphics. In the old days we used to have big jumps within a single generation. Now that happens really slowly by comparison. Sure we still have improvement, but it's not as bold as it used to be..

Yes, it was most certainly graphical leaps, but there used to be bigger leaps in things like AOLI, ad physics like totally destructible environments. I miss BF3 and 4.

I understand what you're saying OnQ but they won't go through those growing pains. There isn't going to be bad 3D raytraced looking games vs good 3D looking games like there was bad looking 3D games compared to good 2D.
Not about having bad looking games

I'm saying bring down the complexity while pushing Ray-Tracing at a really high level

You sound totally nuts and I agree with you. Fuck them graphics, let's bring everything down to 5fps and make games look like surrealist art again. You know, like Nintendo did back in the day.

Let the kids suffer the growing pains
I know this post is most likely a joke, but I've seen some people having similar arguments for real, about how younger generations won't appreciate something because they didn't experience worse etc...
The thing is, you didn't suffer either on these games when you were a kid, they looked fine to you because you didn't know any better, and older generations were most likely thinking the exact same thing about you, being like "you would enjoy mortal kombat more if you grew up with pong", it's a never ending cycle lol.

The thing that I do think is a shame, however, something that hurts younger generation tastes, is not visuals but the genre of games. So many young gamers nowaday grow up with online games and will only be interested in only one game, completely ignoring the rest and never being interested in various genres or single player games at all. I think that's the biggest issue. You see it with kids who instead of getting different games, they use all their birthday money on micro transactions for the same game, it really makes me sad.

What the kids right now are playing more than anything:

this topic is also dumb because many kids have to know at least about the more graphically intensive games out there, it gets shoved in their faces a lot.... they just do not care.
if they alerady don't care about the more graphically intensive games, they probably are not going to care about the jumps in visuals from then to now

Those fighting game screenshots are presented as if they represent the idea so it comes off as really dumb even though it's just weak.

I know we always reference this 2 as the "kids" game, but they are so old by now that those kids are probably on their 20s?, what is the actual kids game in today's age

I don't want to go back that far, but I'd gladly take a graphics and scale reduction if it meant we'd no longer have to wait seven years for 100-hour busy-work simulators that look stunning but play just like everything else on the market.

these games. Roblox and Minecraft.

They are old sure but they are evergreen. Kids have been playing both games a lot since 2016. Same for Fortnite. There are not many new video games coming out that catch the attention of children quite like those 3 have

It's what we are already having on most popular games out there. Look at ftp, multiplayer games, they all are ugly looking because they have to works on every PCs, console and smartphone. And that's the kind of games younger people play.

Right now I'm playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 4k@60 on Xbox Series X. The game is clean and beautiful as hell!

I don't understand, why the modern developers launch those ugly UE5 games. They don't look better at all, but suffer from low resolution and unstable frame rate.

I think the gray beards have finally retired and the people making the engine don't really know what they're doing.

Now we are being flooded with old school games , Arcade Stick from Sony & Light Guns that work on modern TVs .

Publishers afraid of losing money on big projects we will most definitely see the great reset.

Kids would just nope out. (They already are to a certain extent). The games with retro graphics that kids currently do enjoy have a special appeal in the gameplay, that seems hard to duplicate. Also, people would demand that the games lower their prices to match those graphics. Many will say the games should cost next to nothing, not realizing that work was still put into the game. You can make a modern game with retro graphics, but you cannot turn back the clock full tilt.

Well you can allow your children to load up on classics, hey for the most part my childhood was 70s, 80s and late 90s entertainment even being born in 1994 because of the contributions from family's consoles or VHS tapes.

You can download on steam, ps plus or even gamepass classic games for kids or look for indie games for kids. Or buy a switch or ds or gameboy for kids.

One of the best reviewed game on Steam and one of the best shooter of all time

Indies are doing exactly what OP wants, not sure why there would be something special about it for a "next generation console".

Well, I hoped for the rise of AA and it became true so I hope devs stay around that budget except for important entries of bigger fishes.

In some way I also want the opposite, I loved Ratchet and Clank and would really love more high end cartoon games with the that Pixar-like feel, so far Nintendo do them but I don't want them to be the only ones.

I mean...just let the kids play the older games. Every month I see some story saying Zoomers and Gen Alpha kids are buying up retro games, my collection on price-charting keeps going up in value.

The kids like roblox, minecraft and other indie games going for lower poly artstyles. We're also seeing handhelds do well that have less horsepower, and AAA development is unsustainable...so they're going to have to cope with graphics not jumping anymore anyway.
