I got 3 trailers before today's matinee:

The Last Word: In which a hateful, self-centered old white lady adopts a quipping young black girl as her last act of atonement that should nullify a lifetime of being a horrible human being.

That was just awful. The people in that film hate Shirley McLaine? I hate that movie.

Speaking of magical negro tropes, what ever happened to that cringey Eddie Murphy movie? Did it get quietly shelved?

Mr. Church is as guilty as fuck as magical negro tropes go, but I can't lie that I still enjoyed this melodramatic and predictable film and gave into all of its emotionally manipulativeness and had a good cry. Eddie Murphy puts in a very good dramatic performance.

Since 2010 Illumination has placed 6 films in the DOM animated top 20. That is more than Pixar (4) and Disney Animation (2). WB has 1 (The LEGO Movie).

The one Illumination film to miss was The Lorax which still grossed over 200M DOM.

34% drop is absurd. 101M WW on a 9M budget. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Best drop for a horror movie since the conjuring

Split is only $5M behind the Conjuring after 2 weekends, and that film had the benefit of summer weekdays.
Happy to see it being so successful. Can't wait to see it, even though I had the twist spoiled by a post on the Gaming side and a YouTube title video.

I count five: Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, Minions, Secret Life of Pets and Sing. Which one am I missing?

I only count five too. Still, an incredible achievement.

Absolutely. Though IMO only the original DM is top tier. I somewhat liked DM2 and Minions, kinda hated SLOP, haven't seen Sing (because I'm pretty sure I'd hate it). So I do think they're a way off from being able to use their studio name as a brand name the way Pixar can
(could)
.

Really giving James a wan for his money eh?
