ok HANG ON I'll explain myself

- One shot is better (Age of Ultron's opening is fucking killer and doesn't get enough love at all)
- Cap gets treated better (still not Winter Soldier BAMF, but whatever, Whedon didn't fuck it up 100000% like in 1)
- Hulkbuster fight

Honestly, beyond the novelty of seeing the whole crew together for the first time ever, Avengers 1 doesn't stick with me that much anymore, especially since the one emotional tack in it (Coulson dying) was a SCAM

-The opening single shot just felt like Whedon saw the positive reception to the tracking shot in Avengers 1 and thought he would just go overindulgent from the get go. It was cool, but not as awesome as the one in Avengers. In Avengers it felt like a gatefold splash page brought to life. In AoU it felt like wankery.
- Cap was treated only slightly better. But, still not Winter Solider levels of badass.
-Hulkbuster fight is still aces. The real standout sequence from the film. It still pales in comparison to the Battle of NYC at the end of Avengers.

Explain. Coulson's still dead last time I checked.

where the fuck are you checking?!

I was watching the first two seasons of Agents of Shield as they aired. They spent a year building off the Winter Soldier Hydra reveal, and actually doing something that was interesting with the show after a terrible start to S1.Then Age of Ultron started and was like, "We're bored of Hydra, and who gives a shit about Agents of Shield. Avengers defeat them in 5 minutes". So much for small screen synergy!

I stopped watching AoS because it was kinda boring and I saw Winter Soldier a month early and I knew it was going to have some heavy implications on the show so I waited and then never came back besides scenes of Quake just murdering people

I don't really remember much of the NYC Battle beyond:
Tracking shot
Hulk punching Thor
Hulk murderizing Loki

I actually really love Cap's portrayal in the Avengers films.

Whedon just plays him as straight up take charge comic book Cap.

"Son, just don't"

I haven't really been able to rewatch any of them. Everytime I try, I make it a bit then sort of quit. Only three I've been successful with was Capt 1, Ironman 1, and Ironman 3. I feel it's because IM3 and CA1 have the most unique style for the flicks going. But even then, I sort of phase out after the first half in IM1 and CA1.

I want to pin this on most Marvel films keeping the same tone. So when the next comes out in 6 months, it kills any desire to rewatch the previous.

And those are better than just about everything in Age of Mediocrity...Ultron.

There is a lot to like in AoU, but they just failed to sell it all in the end. I am still just mad that Whedon reduced one of my favorite Avengers villains to essentially a Buffy villain in the end.

James Spader was the perfect choice to voice Ultron but yeah, they really dropped the ball by turning him into a standup comedian.

I remember how utterly baffling it was that Ultron got his ass kicked by Iron Man alone in their first proper encounter, while it was Scarlet Witch that fucked the Avengers over.

Nah, I liked that actually.

But as B.Lee said, he should have also just crushed the shit out of everything too. It shouldn't not have been another mindless zombie army repeat on A1. Should have been the royal ass whooping of a lifetime.

I expect any future live action Green Lantern will be Kyle all but in name. Hell the last move, Hal wouldn't have built a race care.
Didn't WB show concept art for Hal and John at Comic-Con last year? I thought I heard they were doing something similar to a buddy cop movie. Like Lethal Weapon in space.

They really should've had the balls to make Ultron just crush the shit out of a place

Like he was supremely ineffective

Precisely. They failed to make Ultron this incredibly scary villain with extreme daddy issues. I wanted to see Ultron just smash the shit out of everyone there. He was just silly in the end. The drones were cannon fodder, and the main Ultron was just a step above. He took a triple shot from Vision, Thor, and Iron Man, and then was absent for most of the finale. He shoulda been stomping that entire team by himself without any drones needed. All the while mocking them for how inferior they were to him and beneath him.

And fuck, Spader was a perfect voice for the character, but they fucked it up. It is like the only reason Whedon wanted Ultron as the villain was so he could finally make Vision. And oh, he nailed Vision so fucking hard. That is one of the things I will be thankful for AoU for.

Hal in Green Lantern 2011 wasn't really anyone. I think they were going for Maverick, but a bigger jackass.

We already know it'll be multiple characters, perhaps focusing on Hal and John. So giving Hal Guy's or Kyle's personality might not work when they could be their own characters.

I love James Spader. I love him endlessly. Spader as Ultron is perfect.

He was wasted in AoU and waste of good resources is the one thing I cannot abide. (This is why I dislike BvS as well.)

(stopped watching when they decided to give Skye a supahpowah, because that's kind of where thing get boring for me)

I haven't watched the past two seasons of Shield, but I liked the Daisy/Quake reveal. I was a fan of Hickman's work with her in the Secret Warriors comic run, and we got Kyle MacLachlan hamming it up as Mister Hyde in the bargain.

Age of Ultron was just disappointing and average at best in the end at least. It wasn't this abysmal turd of a film that fucked any sliver of goodwill and faith in a franchise like BvS did. I went into BvS expecting to see shit and be disappointed. I still left angry at how bad it was.

Kyle has personality?

More than John Stewart ever had, or ever will have.

Every single comic pre-screening I've been to has had applause at the end of it no matter how shit it was. Even Thor 2 got it.

BvS was just dead silent. It was like 1 in the morning because they did a 9:30 PM screening for some reason. Everyone got shellshocked.

But don't you like Gotham?

he was the evolution of the archtype started by Spiderman.

I left Man of Steel angry. I was just in disbelief at how awful BvS was. I was thinking, "Should we just let the DCEU die then?"

"Maybe."

Age of Ultron is a strange one. I actually thought the movie was great but I agree with everyone else that Ultron sucked. But I mean besides that I quite liked the other parts.

LOL, funny that his only interresting run was them going batshit crazy

Maybe you smelled
I half watch Gotham. Gordon and crew I don't care for at all, but their villain casting is mostly on point.
Batman is going to be beating up elder people in that universe

At least Age of Ultron the movie was better than Age of Ultron the comic. It also had more Ultron in it.

That was an extremely low bar to clear. Like, "Can the Civil War movie be better than the comic book?" level low.

Actually, I would put the comic AoU below comic Civil War. At least CW had an ending, as shitty as it was.

People were leaving my theater staring straight ahead, silent with dead eyes.

I lost all respect for Ultron when Cap was fighting him evenly for too long a time.

I kept thinking of George Lucas' quote about Phantom Menace droids. Cut down like butter, useless, inefficient. Well, except against discount Quicksilver.

Shame they didn't keep him around to let the John Wick duo and by extension the Russos do cool action with him in the Civil War airport.

My non-comic reading significant other left angry.

Like, actually angry.

I completely forgot Quicksilver was a thing in the MCU. They did him dirty.
Though Civil War was already close to being overstuffed. The last thing it needed was one more character to work with. Plus it helped build up Scarlet Witch more.

My non comic reading wife left BvS saying, "Well, it wasn't as terrible as the reviews said. I mean, it was bad, but not that bad."
Then I pointed out a few things in how fucked the narrative structure was. She then said, "Ugh. Yeah." Then silence. Then she started to just go on about all the issues, many I didn't pick up on, and then she said, "Yeah, that was really fucking bad."

I would have to, take my money, but don't waste my time.

Yup. I left Spider-Man 3 and Green Lantern disappointed and annoyed, but not downright angry.

As I said after seeing BvS, I would rather watch Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine on a 24 hour loop than watch BvS again.

Probably for the best since he was practically useless as well.

I kind of wish I had seen it with a crowd like that.

My midnight showing (yes, an actual sold out midnight show) was the kind of crowd that burst into applause when a chunk of kryptonite showed up on screen. They were buying everything about this movie no matter what.

I knew I was in for some fuckery when they had Bruce's dad try to punch the robber and then had Bruce get raised up from a well on some fucking batnado

I'm also about 50/50 on Quicksilver coming back as a bad guy, especially if the whole 'all the villains are inside the gems!' thing has any pull to it whatsoever

The batnado was dumb as fuck, but Thomas Wayne fighting back just set the precedent of the shit show that was about to unfold.
