Looks like after next weekend Alien should be around double it's budget with its worldwide gross. Not amazing but decent I'd say.

I will never understand the interest in the current Apes franchise.
Like the first I can understand, maybe, just maybe the second.
But WTF is the point of 3, It just looks so boring and who the hell are you supposed to pull for?
Commercials make the humans out to be the bad guys and im certainly not going to pull for some monkeys defeating humanity.

Saw the first but you couldn't pay me to watch 2 or 3.

You don't understand why people like a series of films that are well acted, written, directed?

It will take longer to get there than one more weekend to hit $190M+. Alien Covenant took a 68% drop worldwide this weekend, and I don't think things will be much better next weekend.

Still, Covenant has Japan and China left to open in. Prometheus made about $55M in those territories. Given market changes since then, I think that Alien Covenant will at least match that (even with Transformers 5 opening the following week in China). Japan could come in at half of Prometheus' $21M, but China will increase.

Pretty sure international ww will be pirates until Spiderman or Transformers5. Wonder Woman,Baywatch etc could perform good on america but not overseas enough to beat pirates me thinks. Didnt see ww early screenings but my friends who did on 24 say pirates was more fun. Its so nice to get a good movie after stranger tides and ends of world

To be fair, as I pointed out earlier in the thread, less than a week ago you also laughed at the idea of Pirates not hitting 1 billion until changing that to $700m in this thread.

And you seem to have a bit of bias against Wonder Woman: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=238330851&postcount=1397

Are you talking about overall or specifically next weekend?

Pirates opened everywhere, and the Japanese release isn't until July. Given the large expected drop from China next weekend, I probably wouldn't count on much more than $80-90M internationally next frame. It could be less.

Wonder Woman is going to be missing Germany, France, Spain, and a few smaller European territories next weekend, but it is out in the places where superheroes are most popular (Latin America, East Asia, English speaking countries). With China there day one, it has a pretty good shot at breaking $90M internationally next weekend. Perhaps by a pretty large margin.

If you are talking about overall, Pirates is probably heading for around $600M internationally, so Wonder Woman's chances at topping it are certainly slim to no-existant. Batman v Superman only made a bit more than $540M overseas.

Last Sunday I asked people to put in their final predictions for Pirates 5. Here are the Sunday/Monday prediction roundups.

Schlorgan
$220m Dom/$750m foreign for Pirates

AndyVirus
I'll say 95m 4-day opening weekend domestic, finishing with 210m. Globally I can see it hitting 800m.

Slayven
200 dom and 550 Foreign for Pirates

overcast
220 Dom/650 Foreign for Pirates

Freeza Under The Shower
So about 200 domestic, 1 billion ww. It's kind of a boring guess since the totals of this series have been stable.

Obliterator
I'll go 215 Domestic and 650 international on Pirates but really I have no idea.

FTF
I'll go $195m dom, $685m os for Pirates.

BumRush
I'm right in this range as well. $210M US, $570M FOREIGN, $780M TOTAL

JeffZero
$215 million domestic
$610 million overseas

DeathBoy
POTC... 300 Dom, 1b WW.

Hodayathink
And Pirates: 250M domestic, 650M overseas.

opricnik
Pirates 5 gonna hit 800M atleast

B-G-E had a more in depth forecast, but that was out after we had reviews and more data.

FTF wins the domestic prediction by virtue of being the lowest, but everyone guessed too high. There were lot of reasonable worldwide guesses.

My post came off pretty douchey, but im just legitimately curious what it is that gets people excited for them outside the understandable reasons you stated.

For my part, one of the things pulling me towards this new Apes movie isn't just the notion of humanity catching its overdue comeuppance for the way they act (which are themes that are also going to be pursued in Blade Runner, and were a big part of Covenant, as well. Sci-Fi in general likes to fuck with that notion - Battlestar Galactica, for example) but what appears to be a faction of the apes either being tricked into, or voluntarily choosing to, go over to the other side.

I'm curious to see how that gray area gets dealt with. Caesar's people aren't betraying him because they're more hardcore than he is. They're betraying him because they'd rather side with humanity than side with him.

I wanna see how that plays out.

I still haven't gotten around to seeing War of the Planet of the Apes. Or Interstellar for that matter. My Daughter was born in Feb 2014, so that entire year was pretty much shot for free time/going out. I think I saw 1-2 films in theatres that entire year.

Yikes @ the Alien drop.

Beauty and the beast is releasing next week on DVD but is still performing well. Still hasn't hit the budget theater yet.

This surprises me. Beauty and the Beast seemed like a massive hit from the moment it was announced.

I knew it would be a big bit. But it's only the 8th film to hit 500 domestic. I pegged it at the high 300s. Though the last month it was clear it would hit 500 eventually.

haha that Prometheus 2 drop. Heard it was terrible so good thing i just went and saw Beauty and the Beast instead. Alien fans are not happy Ridley Scott pulled a George Lucas on the Alien series.

Right now thinking that low end Wonder Woman opening is $90-95m. High end is $115-120m.

If the reviews dropping tomorrow are as good as expected, then it should have good legs as well.

As funny/infuriating as it has been to see DC/WB just keep fucking up their films while still raking in the money, it will be nice to finally see them deliver a good, solid film. And if they deliver a good film finally, it will be nice to see it pay off at the box office.

And let's hope that when WW takes off at the box office, studios will finally see that there is a market for female driven films.

Just off the top of my head... Underworld, Resident Evil, The Great Wallm, Life, Rings, Fifty Shades, and The Circle are all fucking terrible.

Goddamn, I've seen some SHIT this year.
I'd like to hear this part.

Hey, The Great Wall was the best anime live action movie I've ever seen! I was expecting a standard "historical action" shitfest but when the three dudes in the rainbow armor marched out, that movie got good.

At the risk of eating crow tomorrow, I wouldn't get your hope too high for the reviews. I think It will probably end up fresh on RT, but only just; there's some really good stuff in the middle section of the movie, but the last act is just too messy for me to think the film will get a truly great reception from critics.

I am trying not to get my hopes up, but it is sad to think that a DCEU film getting a 56% RT score would be the highest score for them.

I am expecting it to end up fresh at least.

Of course, I thought the same thing about Suicide Squad until all those reviews started hitting.

They should have seen that in 86 when Aliens came out. Not to mention Hunger Games in recent years. They'll never learn. I mean, we have a bunch of female-led superhero films coming in the next few years so things look okay right now but whenever the first one of those bombs or disappoints for whatever reason, studio execs will be pointing their fingers at the female lead right away.

Yeah, that's my take as well. The first impressions seem positive but not Avengers / Dark Knight positive. It seems to be a solid and enjoyable movie but I don't expect the average score to be that high based on what I've read. I'd love to be wrong of course. I do expect a fresh RT score though.

I laughed out loud at that, hehe.

I do think Great Wall is in that "so bad, it's good" territory. It also takes on an extra layer of meaning when you realize this was a Chinese distributor's attempt to crack the Hollywood code.

Well, it definitely won't be in that Suicide Squad/BvS tier of reviews. :p But I think if WB learns the right lessons from Wonder Woman, they'll be able to start churning out some good films. Hell, there's a sequence in WW that is so good that it made me think this whole universe of films has actually been worth the effort.

That is a lot of pain to endure to get to something good.

Having said that, I do need to get my tickets for this Thursday night.
