Wkd BO 07•21-23•17 - Slam Dunk' for Nolan, Apes escape, not rough Girl's Trip, Luc

Huh, I just realized this is the first Spider-Man film ever to have a higher domestic gross than a previous Spidey-film. Until now every single film has made less than the previous.

I dont' know that Danny Elfman's started scoring yet, even.

I'm really, really curious what he's going to do with it, though.

It seems like the Man of Steel theme (What Are You Going to To Do... on the MoS soundtrack) will be making an appearance if the trailers are anything to go by.

Or at least, the marketing team hasn't forgot that it can be useful.

(bonus: this twitter thread I made the other day about why that theme works)

If the last Avengers is anything to go by, he could use the theme again and retool it a bit, just like he did with Silvestri's Avenger's theme.

I had a couple people suggest to me that maybe Clark's theme from MoS gets repurposed to be the Justice League's theme overall. Which could be cool, I guess.

I just don't like HOW it was used in the trailers. Pitching it up like they did, and doing that string rhythm made it sound really cluttered and jittery.

Oh, I would love that, such an excellent theme.

Seeing how it was used in the trailer doesn't bug me. I doubt it'll come back the same way in the film itself.

If I had to judge by the BvS trailer, anyways.

I really wonder what kinda music he'll use for Flash if he gets a solo scene. After seeing how Fox had Quicksilver with period songs somewhat connected to time or travel and Marvel had Quicksilver do next to nothing solo(I can't even recall if he got a fight theme)I'm interested in what direction they'll go.

Diana will of course have her now classic track.

If Flash gets a theme in JL I hope Elfman will channel his work on Hulk. Really underrated score and it had a weird eccentric sci-fi vibe that would fit the character very well.

It's 2017 and our White House is a carny shitshow that wouldn't cut mustard at an off-air WCW promo in 1997.

so yeah, Emoji Movie is going to make more than Atomic Blonde this weekend.

Shit, now I kinda hope he repurposes that, too.

He's gonna have to come up with a theme for him in this movie anyway.

edit: It really does sound like the Batman rhythm melded with Hedwig's Theme.

For some reason, I never thought of Elfman potentially using a bit of his old Batman theme for Justice League. Now I'll be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

Funny thing is Danny Elfman already made a Flash theme for the 1990s TV show

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsPmVfsP7kg

Yes, it sounds very similar to his Batman theme.

Haha, holy shit, I'm tired, how did I manage to forget that? Yeah, it was a great theme despite the Batman similarities. I loved that show as a kid.

My Elfman superhero themes ranking:
Batman > Hulk > Spider-Man > Flash

I don't remember the Ultron score, it's been a while since I've really cared for Elfman's work. Hopefully he'll crush it on JL.

Allow me to remind everyone that 1) there is no evidence to suggest Charlize Theron is an action movie draw, and 2) John Wick 1 only opened to $14.4M.

Ya, $20M would be a good opening for Atomic Blonde.

Also, it looks like this thread is heading for 2k posts. I guess Nolan + Thor runtimes makes for a powerful combo.

Quick Q:

Is Sony cutting back some of Spidey's theaters this weekend to give Emoji full run of the house?

It's highly likely a lot of Spidey's bookings with exhibitors came with the contingency that they had to book Emoji movie on X number of screens when it finally dropped, too.

If Whedon is feeling cheeky he'll tell him to hint at his Batman 89 theme.

But I'll be surprised if Elfman doesn't phone it in. (obligatory)

The true test is whether or not we hit 1000 posts next thread when you're on your road trip. BGE has his work cut out for him.

It's used similarly to the Man of Steel trailer, if you listen closely.

MoS https://youtu.be/T6DJcgm3wNY?t=115 (~1:55)
JL https://youtu.be/g_6yBZKj-eo?t=162 (~2:45)

They did something similar in BvS, where Lex Luthor's theme is a remix of a Man of Steel track.

I may be alone but I don't even recognize the similarities
I listen at least 3 times each and for me, it's different and way more epic for the JL version

I don't have a musical ear, that would explain my feeling :(

Listen for the horn lines. Same progression, same melody.

The Justice League one really starts closer to 2:56. A-B em, you'll hear the horns doing the same notes in the same order with the same rhythm. JL's is just pitched higher.

The big difference is that the strings underneath the horns are pretty different. Way more distracting in the JL example.

In addition to Dunkirk, WB is planning to push Wonder Woman and Patty Jenkins for oscars.

While I really like Wonder Woman there's no chance either will win. Even being nominated is a big stretch, but we'll see.

Nolan has got to be up there, though.
Chris Pine for Supporting Actor. You heard it hear first, folks.

Honestly, don't think Wonder Woman has a shot at any Oscars, but it's a good movie tho
