Seeing how well these horrible evangelical movies do I wonder how well an actually well made one would do. Although I suspect a big problem is that no one with any talent would want to direct or write one of these (and rightfully so)so I am not sure how possible that even is.

I don't think a well made one would do any better. These people make the Transformer movie's audience look like they have the film prowess of Roger Ebert.


Any guess on why Mission Impossible disappointed in China compared to it's predecessor?

17 years later. Domestic attendance for Jurassic World was about half of that of Titanic's original run.

You can't really compare attendance though because the market is structurally different - same for the music industry.

Not sure, but my wife and I might be out for it. We finally watched Maze Runner on HBO GO last night and really liked it.

It's weird to think how expectations are so warped, Ep VII grossing $500M domestic and $1.5B worldwide would be considered disappointing.

How could that be disappointing? My guess is that is somewhere very close to Disney's targets and would be a huge success. It would men that they had successfully relaunched the film universe.

The only people who would see that as disappointing also think that the Avengers 2 gross was disappointing. There is no reasoning with these people.

I'm almost looking more forward to the box office numbers as I am the film itself. I truly believe TFA has a shot at Avatar.

In this market, with so much more of the world opened up, Ya. I think it's going to beat Avatar. I wouldn't be surprised. 1 Billion on name alone.

A Mexican movie about talking eggs beat out We Are Your Friends in it's first weekend.

Even accounting for that, Titanic was much bigger than Jurassic world. There will be 3 other films of comparable size to Jurassic World in terms of gross this year world wide. There were no films of comparable size to Titanic within a decade either before or after.
