Fucking lol at duck pulling out his Slayven tech

Is it Furious 7? I think it is. If not that, then one of their local movies.

It's Furious 7 in USD. Technically Monster Hunt ended just above Furious 7 this past summer in local (2.438B vs 2.427B RMB) , but the Yuan has dipped a bit against the USD, so Furious 7 "wins" $391M to $385M.

Which is fine, because China cheated its way to that first place position.

I remember being at a sneak screening and a dude posted up about a row back on the aisle (at least he was on the aisle) and busted open a Safeway rotisserie chicken.

A whole fucking supermarket deli rotisserie chicken.

Greasy as hell. I could HEAR IT.

Crinkly ass Subway bags and wrappers happened to me once not to many rows/seats away..... I could hear it too :/

Star Wars the Force Awakens is now the most successful Star Wars movie ever in France with almost 9m tickets sold, the previous one was TPM with 7.3 million of tickets sold ( 7,9m with the re-release of the movie in 3D ) and it won't stop here.

( The French aren't counting what the movie make in money but about how much it sold tickets )

http://www.allocine.fr/article/fichearticle_gen_carticle=18649496.html

Looks like it will still miss France's all time top 10 list:

1.Titanic 21,774,181
2.Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis 20,489,303
3.The Intouchables 19,490,688
4.Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 18,319,651
5.La Grande Vadrouille 17,267,607
6.Gone with the Wind 16,719,236
7.Once Upon a Time in the West 14,862,764
8.Avatar 14,775,990
9.The Jungle Book 14,695,741
10.One Hundred and One Dalmatians 14,660,594

I am really enjoying seeing Once Upon a Time in the West on the same list as Snow White and The Jungle Book.

That's fucking crazy, France. You guys are okay.

Yeah sure but like I said on the other thread, TPM almost killed Star Wars there, SW7 being the most successful Star Wars ever is an accomplishment in some way,

~9m numbers are from Sunday ( missing Monday and Tuesday numbers ) and the movie is still on theater for the next couple of weeks, we'll se how it goes from there, it can maybe enter in the top 20/10.

Tying into recent discussions about inflation and admissions, one thing that I think is often glossed over is the fact that Canada is included in the domestic box office tallies. Here's the top 10 films in the Canadian box office the week that Star Wars launched:

Top-10-Films-at-the-Canadian-Box-JAN-4.jpg

$34.27M Canadian was sitting at around $24.65M USD that week. When Avatar launched that same amount would have been worth $32.6M USD, $8M isn't a ton, but it basically means that Star Wars: TFA missed a $250M first weekend and $150M second weekend because the Canadian dollar sucks.

So China had 1.26B movie ticket sales in 2015. Domestic box office estimate was 1.33B tickets sold for the year. Take out Canada from that domestic total, and China is probably already the world leader for movie attendance.

What are the Bollywood figures like?

Bollywood is classified as the biggest movie industry in the world in terms of amount of people employed and number of films produced.[8] In just 2011 alone, over 3.5 billion tickets were sold across the globe, which in comparison, 900,000 tickets more than Hollywood.[9] Also in comparison, Bollywood makes approximately 1041 films yearly, as opposed to less than 500 films made by Hollywood yearly.[9]

Well, the choice is clear.

We must annex Canada.

I was wondering if India would be higher, but their total box office in that year was only $1.8B and I had no idea what a ticket costs there. I guess it's hard to compete with a country where the average ticket is less than a dollar.

Canada doing its best to help Cameron. That Cameron and Dion combo propelled Titanic.

Missed The Hateful Eight as my cousin felt ill so that is rescheduled for Wednesday. Thought about buying a cheap ticket to watch TFA in 2D. I passed as seeing it twice is enough and the theater was most likely infested with fried chicken eating Walmart shoppers.

That would be 10 new states at once (assuming all of Canada's provinces and territories become states), so no complaining about not being able to have an even number of stars on the flag.

Canada just becomes a state

Fuck your other things, in AMERICA we do things differently, goddamnit!

This is unacceptable. It's so fucking illogical the way box office is presented that makes me legitimately angry.

Dumbness shouldn't be accepted at such a large scale.

Here are comparisons of China presales from a specific pre-order site, Gewara. Obviously it only represents a small percentage of sales, but it seems they like to use it for tracking purposes. It is not a good predictor, as you can see, but it can still be fun to follow:

So I'm checking the UK all time list, and see that TFA has already surpassed Avatar, in pounds, but in USD it's still around $20 million behind. It's kind of why I've never cared that much about worldwide gross. I prefer looking at the grosses of each region (in local currency) to get a better idea of what films are resonating with the people there.

Is it just me or does this example (along with I'm sure at least a few others that would be similar) not pretty much completely invalidate the concept of consistent and comparable worldwide grosses?

Currency fluctuations when examining 10+ different types over even just a couple years can be absolutely massive, so in the end aren't the gross dollar tallies borderline arbitrary?

It seems the chinese pre-orders usually "explode" between 2 days before the premiere and in the exact day. Lets see how it goes in the next few days. Im really curious
