I won't explain shit to my nonexistent kids and even if I had to it'd be something that actually impacts their lives.

"Conan! What is best in life"
"Let me tell you about the box-office reciepts of 2016-2017. A wilderness of fire and flame it was."
"BUT DID YOU ADJUST FOR INFLATION"
"To Hell with inflation, and Crom, and YOU."

id watch this

Haven't seen it, don't think I will either. It was an odd film to market too given the genre. Poor Del Toro, his luck hasn't been that great lol

Cameron's masterpiece.
One of Titanic's greatest achievements is that basically ended up being James Cameron's biggest "Fuck You" to Hollywood ever. Dude and everyone in that movie put in their blood sweat and tears while the rags did their best Devin Faraci impression to create the stage for his crucifixion

Not touching titanic by long mile eh. Good. It beat jw which was big. I predicted 1.65b overall and it crossed that but i will be off by 200 or so millions

Wow at SW TFA's Metacritic user rating, dare I even bother to check the site or should I already know what to expect as to why it's so much lower than the critic score?

Based on Monday results and early Tuesday pre-orders, even getting to $150M might not happen for TFA in China. It's going to need a big increase this coming weekend to do better than $130M, and there are 4-5 local films (plus The Last Witch Hunter) opening.
What if The Last Witch Hunter does better than SW in China?

I hope Titanic remains above Force Awakens if only as a historical reminder of how a phenomenon it was. Sure Force Awakens is racking up the dollars, but it doesn't mean much (3D tax), we're not even one month after the release of a new STAR WARS movie and the lasting appeal just isn't there (At least in France), compared to Titanic.
In terms of tickets sold, the gap is huge (Est. 135,474,500 VS 94,394,300 tickets in the US. 40 millions difference. Wordwide the gap must be even larger x2 possibly?)

Is that 135 million for Titanic's full run, or it's run up to this point?

And I think one thing lost among many people when talking about Titanic's run in the BO was how little competition it had during the first few months after its release. One of the biggest reasons it stayed at the top of the box office was because there wasn't anything on any real consequence released for like 3 months afterwards.

Didn't Titanic have a 3D re-release which added a not insignificant amount of money to its worldwide total.

With Star Wars starting to die down, I think I might go see it now.

Too bad about the Hateful Eight. I had my dad celebrating that it "bombed." :\

That's actually quite possible. We think Avatar's run was sheer insanity but I believe in many countries it didn't get close to Titanic in admissions.

I know it's possible, it's also very probable. But I haven't seen any reliable data to back it up. And there are too many variables (3d/2d split, ticket prices, exchange rates) to judge it for the rest of the world.

Also comparing end results with interim results. Not that I doubt Titanic.

Kind of funny how the actors complained it was complete hell and now Leo's gonna win a Oscar putting himself a movie that was complete hell...Intentionally!

How dare you?

Great movie

You have to consider also the exchange rates.

Titanic came out 18 years ago and was a 2d film. Exchange rates might be bad now but tickets have gone up in price quite a bit worldwide. Titanic is way ahead of TFA in admissions pretty much everywhere. The Force Awakens may end up missing Titanic's original, unadjusted overseas take.

How do you know that the difference is huge if you don't find any data?

Because it stayed on screens for months, everywhere in the world. The difference in the US is already 40 millions more tickets sold for Titanic.
And Force Awakens is 46.9% domestic, Titanic was 30.1%, huge chunk abroard.

Man, who cares what Del Toro wastes his time with. He has made one good movie in his entire career, and that's looking like a massive fluke at this rate.

No way: The Devil's Backbone, Hellboy 1 & 2
and Pan's Labyrinth are all very good movies. With Pan's being excellent. And Pacific Rim was a fun time in theaters. Never saw Mimic or Cronos but didn't like Crimson Peak.

Edit: oh and Blade 2 is pretty awesome too.

I amended my post to what I really meant: Pan is a legit great movie, and it's far ahead the rest, which all border on the verge of mediocrity or below.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS took in an estimated $3.1M on Monday and has grossed $815.9M to date domestically. #TheForceAwakens

$17.3M Worldwide on Monday
- $3.1M domestic
- $14.2M international (including $7.2M China)

I just like the way Del Toro's movies look so I hope he keeps making new ones. Marketing really failed Crimson Peak too, I'm sure it could have done at least a bit better.

Otherwise I kind of a agree that Pan's labyrinth is way above the rest of his work, but I still enjoyed most of his stuff.

The re-release in 3D is still the only reason TFA might not pass it overall.
