To be fair, I've never seen a fanbase be so poisonous to the franchise they like as much as the Star Wars fanbase

The only ones I think that come close are the FGC or Dota community.

Well I'll be. Bronson is actually right. Star Wars fanbase is the most horrible thing ever with the worst goddamn nerds in it.

Edit: Not counting the fact that I have a two year old and have had to sit through at least part of Frozen 20 to 30 times in the past few months.
I had a moment, a week ago, where I recited a line to that snowman song, and wasn't sure where I had heard it. Then a few days later, on my daughter's 1,000th viewing of frozen, which I had yet to actually *watch*, I happened to catch that scene and had a brain melt moment realizing that 90% of that film had seeped into my subconscious without my consent 😫

Dang Mushroomer was spot on with the OW. Avengers though...

Woot woot. Though frankly I probably estimated ten different opening weekends for Star Wars over the past few months. One of 'em had to be close.

I definetely overestimated Avengers (as did many people). I still feel like the Mayweather/Pacquio fight was bigger than most people anticipated, and siphoned off a solid amount of its' Saturday night numbers. Not saying that would've pushed it past 220M, but certainly would've been closer.

There was also the kentucky derby that weekend. I think AoU might have been able to match the opening for the first Avengers if not for the sporting events that weekend but the world will never know. It still wouldn't have come close to its final $623M DOM though.

Currently at 3 viewings. Will get 2 more in before its out of theaters, maybe 3 more depending how long it stays in theaters. Not sure yet.

Last film I saw more than once in theaters was The Dark Knight at 2 viewings.

Despite being old and bitter there is nothing like Star Wars (literally nothing else does this to many anymore, even movies I am hyped for) that brings out my inner 5 year old and makes me want to watch the same movie as many times as I can.

I'm on my third viewing as well. I will see it at least 2 more times. I'm 33 and I don't find myself watching the same movie multiple times these days. I saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 or 3 times. That's the only recent movie besides Force Awakens that I've watched multiple times in the theater.

The last thing the world needs is another goddamn Star Wars thread from Cheebo
Huh? You act like I make many Star Wars threads. I barely make any of them. Hell I doubt I have made more than 3 Star Wars threads this entire past year.

And yes there will be a crow thread for those who unwisely thought Marvel is bigger than Star Wars when this passes Ultron. And yes I plan to make it. Crow will be served. It will be beautiful.

A marvel vs Star Wars thread is like two overachieving adults desperately trying to impress their cold, distant parents, who never return their calls. They'll never hug you, no matter how many cars or vacations you buy them!

I'm at 5 viewings. Might have one more in me sometime in the next couple of weeks but its really just dependent on getting asked along by someone who hasn't seen it yet, which sounds like its 50/50 on happening. I think the last time I saw a movie more than once was ROTS twice in 2005.

Hah that's my big thing too. I don't like going alone. Went with my wife once (very unwillingly, she couldn't give a shit about Star Wars) and my friends and dad have seen it already. My dad badly wants to go again so I have that. Running out of people who want to see it more than once.

Needing to see Hateful Eight is also a problem.

I hate that they didn't follow the rebranding done for 1-6. It bothers me to no end. The font chosen for "The Force Awakens" is especially bad.

Really? The more it gets away from the prequels the best. :p 4-6 never got "rebranded" like that, though.

I'm ready to watch TFA for the third time but with how busy (and expensive) everything is around Christmas I'm probably gonna wait until next week.

But I want to watch it now >_<

But you underestimated by a whopping 66%!!!!!!!!!
I remembered more the later half of the year where I had barely any. Once TFA mania took hold there was 48583 people waiting to post the latest bit of non-news about the movie there was nothing to post topics about!

I might go for the 3rd time tomorrow. In fact I snuck into a theater today but it was playing in 3D so I had to leave. This theater by me is stupidly easy to just walk into. There is literally no one there to rip tickets. It's a garbage theater but it's right around the corner.

I contributed my one box office ticket on a noon showing in rainy Southern California today. Was about 85% full when the trailers started. Only the rows close to the screen were left at that point. Next time I watch it, it'll be in 3D and hopefully Atmos on my home theater.

Hey, it's better than the millionth MoS thread. Bring on more Star Wars!

With some of the MCU-GAF guys posting dozens of Marvel threads before they get juniored, I'm willing to give Cheebo a pass on his 5 TFA threads.

It's true.

All of it.

No lies detected

See, Bronson!

Heavy lies detected. Moving to intercept.

You even said you're going to make the crow thread! That's dumb. The money literally goes to the same company now. Neither is going away. Put the Fuck You Rocket™ away

Though you definitely aren't as bad as MCU-Gaf, fuuucking hell

Pretty much what I figured after we got the Monday number.

Assuming it ends up on the high side today (which has been the case so far) tomorrow will be $33-35M. I'm thinking $24M for Thursday.

That puts it at what, over $380 million before the second weekend even begins?

It can't be that bad, can it?

It's pretty bad.

You should have heard the fucking temper tantrum some of the most vocal aspects of the fandom threw when they heard they wouldn't be able to buy new Slave Leia toys in 2016.

The most popular Star Wars podcast online did like, three straight shows on it, culminating in them bringing their WIVES on, ostensibly to say "it's okay that you can't stop fetishizing Carrie Fisher from 1983" and when they were like "maybe you guys have had enough out-of-context boner-stroking over a character who was more than this bikini" they got yelled at.

But WHY are they like this?

How come, say, Star Trek fans don't seem to be like this? (as far as I know).

Ignoring the fact that we still have another 10 days of Holiday grosses after this Thursday, The Force Awakens gets to $730M with Age of Ultron legs if it finishes Thursday at $375M.

If It finishes Thursday with the lower bounds of my guesses, it ends up at $745M with Ultron legs.

Time for those of you still hedging your bets on whether Avatar will keep the domestic crown to accept that we have a new domestic charts topper.
