(People hate the prequel trilogy but it was strong on quotes)

Only an 11% drop on Sunday is fucking insane. And this is the WW Opening Weekend record now without China. For reference Jurassic World did 100.1 million in China opening weekend.

Holy shit.

People need to stop spewing this nonsense when it comes to Avatar. You don't make three billion dollars without significant repeat viewings. You don't get significant repeat viewings because of 3D. You get them because people enjoyed the movie.

i personally rewatched avatar because of the spectacle of the 3d and the lush avatar world...

the movie itself, i realized the second time around, was just ok.

I keep saying the same thing about Gravity!

another shallow "experience"

This is why its so fucking annoying that the media reports the weekend estimates so early. Now most people will know that 238 number but wont know how high it really went.

Fantastic Sunday numbers!

I drove by the theater on Sunday and the line was longer than it was on Thursday. Crazy.

Why isn't there a Star Wars RPG? And wouldn't James Bond make for a pretty good FPS?
When Star Wars opens in China in January, will the money they make there get added to the opening weekend totals?

So much for the DH2 comparisons

Harry Potter has its obsessed hardcore fans that rushed out. Star Wars has the same rabid following but unlike Potter Star Wars appeals to everyone. Potter is the giant undisputed king of the Young Adult franchise world, but it still has the restraints of that genre in terms of overall reach.

Star Wars is one of the only franchises that has a obsessed core rabid fanbase yet also appeals to 3 year olds and 83 year olds almost equally.

Just think how much higher next week will be when all the people who avoided the cinema, were xmas shopping or in school come to see what the excitement is all about. I predict a minimum of a 3% increase.

All the kids will be home on break and parents will need something to do with them. This thing is going to do insane this week.

Seriously, anyone willing to die on the hill that Cameron is going to still be the king of the domestic boxoffice?

Abrams is taking down that #1 spot. It likely wont worldwide but Cameron being topped domestically for the first time since 1997 is happening folks.

The average person doesn't care. Those that slight care don't know the difference between $238 and $250. Those that really care will look up the updated numbers anyway.

Trust me, it's not worth being fucking annoyed over the preemptive reporting of a $12 million difference in the box office haul of a movie.

Yup wouldn't be shocked if there were steady audiences all week with another big bump next weekend. I'm sure Christmas will be a good day for it. I plan on going to see it Saturday for the 3rd time.

I mean, probably you're right, but I feel like the second weekend numbers should come in before we deal in absolutes.

That $12 million was Alvin's entire weekend. The perspective is interesting.

$524 for Jurassic. $528 for Star Wars.

And as noted before Jurassic World's OW had China which added 100 mil to it's total. The fact Star Wars beat it without the biggest non-America country for boxoffice numbers is mind boggling. Jurassic World had that massive handicap and still lost.
