World of Warcraft |OT5| Where we're going, we're gonna need roads

Hi Guys.

Thought I would just say hello and introduce myself as I just started playing a bit of WoW so I will likely have questions from time to time. Been reading the thread for a while as I have been interested in a different MMO(previously Rift) but was unsure about the sub. I was also unsure about playing to level 90 or just taking the boost at the next expansion. But I guess if I play it I will be use to my character/s and likely be in a better position in terms of economy and gear.

So far extremely low level as I am literally starting from 0. Went with an Orc Hunter, currently sitting at level 10. I did play till level 15 over the weekend but then my friend that plays came on and said oh you are on the wrong server for the Guild. Doh! Start again.

He gave me 500 gold and said it should cover a few mounts once I unlock them. That was nice of him.

VWdrewzBie#6802 if anyone wants to add.

What server are you on? Might catch a GAF member or two by chance. And 500g should keep you just fine for quite awhile if you don't go crazy with it. First thing should be to get a set of bags if you haven't already. I imagine Netherweave Bags are still the most economical so just get a set of those for yourself and if they're cheap enough on your server you can consider throwing a few into bank bag slots.

If you really feel like buying any gear, which I doubt is nearly as much of a problem while leveling with the Cata world and quest redesign likely helping keep you geared, never spend much of your gold on them. And really a replacement weapon is likely the only area you should ever worry about if you level for awhile and don't have a good replacement.

If you ever start a enhancement shaman and need tips I can definitely help there. Or get into collecting mounts. Those are the two things I know best.

Need your help GAF! my guild is currently working on getting people ready for the Herald of the Titans feat of strength. Gearing up and gathering enough like-minded players now. Its kind of fun actually! something completely new and different to work on instead of just going all the way to 90 and going through the new stuff.

Anyways. Death Knight tanks, I call for your help, or anyone that knows anything about them at 80 at least. It has been a while since I've played mine, in fact probably since they first came out really. We ran Ulduar tonight, I got pretty lucky! got my 4set and weapon, plus two trinkets. My main questions are what should I gem for, and what kind of enchants should I be using. What to reforge for as well. I'll link my armory below. I went ahead and turned the tokens in for the Tank set but I still have time to switch them out if needed. Should I be going for the full tank set because of the stats given? (tons of dodge, parry) I will be main tanking for this fear so I want to be as twinked as humanly possible. Sorry for this badly written post, its really late here. If anyone could help answer some of my questions that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.

I haven't spec'ed Blood yet because I'm hoping for advice on what talents and glyphs to go for as well. Please help.

*edit* well apparently I should have read a bit before posting this. Everyone is saying its stupid easy and can almost be 5man'ed.. Guess I'm taking it too seriously.

Thanks for the tips. Forgot to mention that he also gave me 4 Netherweave bags.

I am playing on the Thrall server. No real reason why other then that is where my friend currently plays.

I haven't looked into buying any gear yet, I imagine at such low level there's not much point. Though yes, a better weapon would certainly be helpful!

I loved getting mounts in Rift. Looking forward to L20 when I can finally get one.

Our guild downed Heroic Immerseus after about an hour of wiping, was very satisfying, even if it was by the skin of our teeth. Heroic Norushen was a joke though, two wipes and we got him. I wonder what happened with his design that made them scrap the entire heroic mode?

I can only guess, but the original design seemed like it was designed around sending people down multiple times to keep cleansing themselves because you gained more corruption from other people going down too.

That said, you started at 50 rather than 75 and the math bore out such that not going down was better than going down from a raidwide dps perspective. It was definitely a semi-challenging berserk the first week of heroics when it was like that, but nobody actually did the 'intended' strat because of the wy the numbers worked, it was kind of stupid.

Mm, hit 540 iLevel tonight. Had to switch all my gems and reforges though since I got a 2H Sword from Flex (the one from Sha of Pride) when I was dual-wielding previously. I also finally sucked it up and equipped the Flex trash-loot tank gloves. Not going to upgrade them with VP though. They're still better than my regular timeless ones, and farming a burden for upgraded (+VP upgrade) timeless gloves just isn't worth it when I'd rather have that slot filled with the tier piece.

Mend pet is good for getting aggro from the spawns. But sometimes your pet just acts like an asshole and you have to pull him away until the spawn isn't so close

Every time I try to pull the pet away the spirit murders him first. I'm obviously timing it wrong. Ugh.

The "go to this place" command is your friend. I think the default hotkey is Ctrl + 3 at the same time.

Pretty much.

One thing to note is that it's probably easier to put your pet on Passive, then tell it to attack the Warbringer, so when you attack the spirit, your pet won't start attacking it.

Oh and this too.

What are some non-crafting ways to make gold? I've been doing quests, but it's so slow. It seems like I was making more (n ot a ton more though) just darming the zealots and selling the cloth

Ores tend to sell well. Other than that, farming old crafting materials for people leveling professions up. Then there's always daily quests, which provide a reasonable sum a day. Your farm can be a money maker as well, either the special seeds which give you crafting mats or just regular veggies if there's a market for that on your server.

Wonder how effective old raids are just as vendor trash. Those gems in BT drop frequently and sell for like 5 gold each, and the epics can sell up to 15

Reasonable, but not exactly money making machines. I think I picked up a couple hundreds worth of stuff (+ greens and cloth) when I did Bastion of Twilight on my lock.

Almost all of my gold if I decide I need to make it comes from spirit of harmony shit and warbringers. Warbringers are ridiculous money as long as your server has an economy.

My worry with warbringers is always 'i could be killing one that's a color I don't have'

Also, I'd be more likely to have them if i had better gear. They take forever to die.

TheYanger

That part :/ I should probably start trying them on my hunter. I typically go on my DK, which if you go blood is 100% faceroll, impossible to die at almost any gear level...but it takes FOREVER. Like, almost 4 or 5 minutes.

Finally got my cloak :D

...now to stuff my reroll... It's almost impossible to find a oqueue group as a dps if you're not 540+, so I don't know what I'll do. guess I'll have to create my own groups.

How do I, as a ret paladin, get enough iLevel for random dungeons? I seem to be at 420 no matter what gear I replace. Help. Lol. I really enjoy going into dungeons.

I do feel it's weird that I'm doing less damage then when I was lvl 70, an my crits are about 30k instead of 50k. I miss my raid gear.

Anyone play on gul'dan or the connected realms to gul'dan?

It's not too bad. Having decent gear helps a lot, and you've got most of that already apparently.

Reforge everything you can to Mastery. That will help a lot.
Just look up what enchants you'll need...with some of the changes to enchants, you can use higher-level enchants that will scale down now.
And gem for Stamina in everything. Algalon still hits pretty damn hard.

Assuming everyone is well-geared and knows the fight, it won't be long at all.

Any other gear you need you just run the Frozen Halls dungeons on Normal or Heroic ToC or buy with JP.

Well to be fair, you can hit exalted with black prince from literally 1-2 hours of farming the center spawns of Isle of Thunder.

I was getting ganked yesterday.

That's what happen when you only add horde servers with other horde servers for alliance people. :(

Man I got handled so easily last night too

At 420 you'd be manhandled by the mobs as well. I think they lifted the ilvl restrictions on random heroic dungeons so you should do those until you can buy a bit of gear for jp and vp.

I'm a fighter and blow cool downs on random mobs for fun. Hehe.

I'm also used to cool downs being an hour or so

Eh, only one Titan Runestone this week from Lei Shen, but that's not too bad I suppose considering I also finished the Secrets portion of the quest this week. Will probably take at least 2, likely 3 additional weeks, but then there's no more gathering of crap and I can get the cloak immediately. So I guess in total if you started fresh the whole questline takes around 10 to 12 weeks or so to finish.

Was in a LFR for Wing 1 of SoO when my raid wiped. Released spirit and tried to load in. Loading bar went full, but the screen stayed the same. I could even hear the sounds of ready checks as if I were in the game. Tried loading a different character on the same server -- no problem. Tried this character again, still can't load in. Now the bar goes to about 90%, music plays like if I were in the game, and I get disconnected from the server back to the login screen.

What's most frustrating is how long I know tickets end up taking. Who knows if I'll even get to play today.

Try loading a character on a different server.

On the subject of letting their sub lapse, I've been considering it lately. I got the rare items I wanted from Pandaria before WoD (Since I didn't want to have to deal with CRZ). I've got decent LFR gear. I've got the transmog stuff I wanted, and I got the mounts I can get.

I've killed Garrosh. It was only in LFR, but I returned so late in the game that I doubt I'll ever get geared to find proper raiding guilds. And I don't know if I want to. I enjoy the 'do it when I can' aspect of LFR even if it is filled with idiots. It gets me decent gear, and that's all I want. And even if I got in a serious raiding guild, for what? To do SoO for 9 months?

Even the legendary cloak questline I'm on. All I can think is, 'will this even be worth it?' Like it made sense if you started playing at launch, but playing catchup now, it just seems so pointless when I know that I'm happy just doing LFR. When WoD comes out, I might have a chance to give playing a more serious shot, but as it stands, I feel like I'm just catching up on stuff that will be useful for next expansion and ignoring the gearing and all that. It's not that I'm playing MoP because I missed the boat. It's that I'm preparing for WoD.

Certainly a valid way to go about it, I'd say try to give Flex a shot if you can, see if you enjoy it. Sure, there may not be any 'point' but if it's fun that's kind of its own point :) Plus you can get BoA's for levelling in WoD if you do flex ora bove.

Maybe. Probably. He only has 20M hp or something like that in 10M mode. It's a bitch if he's got the attack speed buff but just be fast about killing the drake and getting your pet out again - or facetank it like my friend did. Though she's HC geared so facetanking might not work out for you.

Too me it doesn't really. Feels just like LFR, except instead of random people you don't care about from different servers it's random people I don't care about from my server, and you can just remove people when they suck.

Same amount lack of communication/socialisation, same lack of difficulty, same loot system, same level of apathy, it's just LFR 2.0 w/o a queue system. You just /w someone for an inv in trade, go through the motions and leave, so lifeless, but much faster.

If the guy is feeling 'what is the point?' in LFR, I don't really see how he'd feel any differently doing flex.

It's a godsend for my alts though, never had to set foot in lfr on any of them this patch!

Yes, but how easy or hard it is depends on what drake combo you get.

But one of my warlock friends did it back in 5.1 so you shouldn't have much trouble with it now, unless they've changed it since them.

Come on this is just hyperbole at this point. Flex isn't super hard, it's not meant to be, but the difference between LFR and Flex is night and day. You don't even need a vague understanding of bosses to succeed in LFR, that's definitely not true in Flex.

Considering race changing my BE lock to Orc or Undead lock. Normally, I'd just go Orc without question, but I've got the t8 lock set, and that's like my favorite set in the whole game. It looks pretty awesome on Orcs, but it was obviously made for Undead. It's like the one tier I actually like on Undead.

Agreed. Flex feels completely different from LFR. At least on my server. Not extremely difficult, but not at all the auto-pilot walk through that is LFR. I think it was a good addition by Blizz.

I doubt it, my full Normal geared SoO warlock couldn't do it, but I was ignorant of the whole fight and just focused the boss. Even got a Warrior buddy in (whos undergeared) to help and the best we got him was 10%. He chews your void walker for breakfast.

Fel Orcs combined with the new Orc skins/animations would make me seriously consider rerolling Orc.

Which is crazy considering how much I hate looking at Orcs currently, and how much I love UD male casters.

From what I understand, Flex is basically WotLK style normal raids, not counting Naxx and Obsidian Sanctum of course. Which were great, in my opinion.

Okay I haven't done normal or heroic modes in Mists, so I'm missing out on some key information that shapes the whole picture, but here goes:

Naxx in WotlK was super easy and probably undertuned to where it should have been. Maybe not LFR easy, but seemingly easier than Flex. 10-man was a complete joke since you could pretty much outgear it before stepping inside. 25-man I even did in PUGs - full clears, on a server that wasn't top-tier. Regular OS (0 drakes) and Vault were the same way. Vault and OS leaning more on the LFR side of things. EoE was always tricky because of the whole vehicle section, and most people didn't bother nearly as much.

Ulduar was pretty much the perfect raid, and was never really completely puggable (you weren't gonna kill Yogg in a PUG) in Wrath, maybe on better servers, but not on mine. I spent a lot of time there with a guild raiding, so maybe PUGs got farther than I think they would have.

ToC - Puggable, at least later into the tier (and certainly after ICC released), though only the normal modes. Helped that it was short with no trash and could be cleared in less than 2 hours or an hour easy. Sort of in-between LFR and Flex in terms of difficulty.

ICC - Puggable (at least parts), but mainly once the buff got going. At full buff, it is/was probably comparable to Flex today. Lich King and Heroic modes (gunship aside) still difficult.

Ruby Sanctum - Puggable but difficult. Higher difficulty than Flex and/or comparable to Flex Garrosh or something (normal RS).

From my limited experience with Cata raids, their normal modes were more on the "normal"/Ulduar level.

And of course you have to keep in mind doing older tiers in-expansion is never that hard if everyone is in gear from a tier or two above. So that kind of clouds hindsight a bit, figuring out when you did things.

---

But I'm definitely looking forward to the revamp in WoD, with all but the hardest content being Flexible, as it should be. So if I want to join a hardcore raid guild and do Mythic? Great. If I lapse and come back or just want to go it alone more? I can still play via Openraid or whatever and not feel completely left out, restricted to only "tourist" loot, or locked out of achievements.
