yes the servers were up but down again.
Okay guys. wauw as hell! WOW. Westfall is... uhm. f**king amazing. brilliant shit.
One of the stories took me by surprise. Like.. fucking KOTOR level of surprise. I fell of my chair and squirted pepsi all over my keyboard. It was one of those. Incredible! Okay, let me explain to you - the NPCs still are still as generic and ugly as ever, but the stories.. its getting much much better both in writing and pacing.
Dialouge is quicker and snappier than the dragged out stuff in death knight horror. there are references to everything.
I was told to go to parker in redridge. you remember him? he is the first guy you meet in redridge.. back then he was a patrol guard and you had to kill gnolls for him and buy him flowers for his mistress from the flower shop lady - a skank he was being unfaifthful too. Now he runs the damn brigade in redridge in his tower at three corners. EPIC stuff.
Man.. what else? i saw my first phasing. the homeless hillbillies are getting riled up and i had to scout moonbrook for flyers to commit revolution and go against the king and the stormwind army. it was really cool. you see the references to the american war in iraq all over. the political stuff. its all very fast and not over done. I am very impressed.
But i am going to have to shut my mouth about this quest line, because.. i have screens but this is some shit that you guys dont want spoiled if your human. this was actually the best i have seen ever in a wow zone. right here in Westfall.
biased? maybe. I liked westfall in the old days, but I also always hated it. Westfall was always a sort of boring place but with its own charm. Deadmines was great, the defias was boring and I hated the long walking distance. that is still there but there are several FPs around..
im very impressed by this. I really, really am. I got my first healing spell at lvl 15(paladin healing without holy power.. read.. ) but it was bugged so no luck trying it.
there qre quests leading into deadmines there are the same. (dwarf guy in dwarfen district.. he still talks about mining union gear in deadmines and finding out about his missing buddy).. also the quest to get rez is still the same. someone in this thread mentioned it when we were talking about it. this quest still talks like henze got attacked by the defias.. but they are not around.
I gave a feedback saying that they should put henze inside the new deadmines and make it so a paladin can first learn rez after having done that dungeon or halfway through. rez is a powerful skill and I think its good for paladins to have to "earn it". it will also make it feel more powerful. I think that just because Paladin is also a healer(potentially) it shouldnt all come as easy as a priest...).
Concerns right now:
water is screwed up.. took it down. they need to fix that.
sunshafts is creating artifacts on all nvidia cards. using shader model 4.0 and 5.0. apparently it runs great on ATI cards. i disabled it for now.
No more learning weapon skills.. no more training in weapons. you know - you learn a new weapon and you have to get the skill to 400... that stuff was annoying but it has removed so much from the game, that I am actually feeling its getting to generic.
I feel like that I want to run a bit more, and visit some more specific trainers to learn stuff.
A radical and awesome(IMO) suggestion I have would be an idea from SWG - In SWG in the early days, to master your class, you had to be trained by a actual player of the same class who had already mastered it. then in return the mastered player would get special xp for having taught new players. this forced the community together. some people demanded to be paid, but others just did it for free.
a less radical version would be just to allow players to train other players in certain things, but not getting xp or anything out of it. wow has an insane amount of players so going over to someone to be trained shouldnt be a problem. achievements and other stuff could be implanted. "achievement: trained by another player" and "you have trained 300 players " and stuff.
A less radical idea would be to make talents trainable at specific trainers.. so im a paladin. why cant I go to a special master dude who specialise in retribution? some crazy zealoty crusader type dude who lives in a cave and can teach me that which the other paladins who believe in the protective and holy ways cant?
a better example is a priest who decides to go shadow - why would a mother of all good holy priest teach someone shadow?
screw the lore.. its just that I feel that its coming to easy now, and since talents have been much better implanted.. new talents pop up, you get to try them before you submit, the interface is 100 times as good. there are many reasons why talents now feel like skills.. and you only get talents at every second level. getting talents is sort of rare.
with all these fp, and with rank removal of skills you have to go to a trainer a lot less often which makes trainers less uniqe and more of a... i don't know. they just dont feel as important as they used to.
trainable talents would be cool from trainer experts. a few holy talent trainers around the continent in churches and cathedrals... protection paladin trainers in other places, and retribution paladin trainers around in remote places or somewhere else.
it would also be to make the different schools of talents more uniqe. because lets face it - its turning more and more into you dive into a class and stay there. they are disencouraging dabbling.. and of course this hurts the uniqeness, but I think they did it for balance reasons.
Its my belief that your supposed to stay in one talent tree mainly and let that be that. your not supposed to go halfway into two trees. no. you go all the way in one tree and get bottom of the second and/or third. thats it.
so.. that means less builds than before, so each of the tree talent trees should feel more uniqe in every way.
im going to write these suggestions on the beta forums, but I would like your take on it. I'll go through spelling check and use more time to present the idea, but maybe you have some good points to why I am wrong, or something else I should consider in my beta forum bitching.
I really like the beta right now. I hope i'm not overhyping or selling it too much. But there are so many bugs. I don't see this being out for months and months. my guess would be november as the earliest this could be ready!
