World Top 50 Most Dangrous Cities.

How the fuck is New Orleans above STL? Stupid American here I guess but when I have visited East STL I have feared for my life and New Orleans always gets so much praise for being awesome.

Murders per 100,000 isn't the best metric, precisely because of the drug wars.

The criteria should be this: in which cities would a completely random person be most likely to be killed, mugged, or raped?

Some of those are crazy. New Orleans is hosting the Final Four this weekend, and I would take my chances there than Mosul, Iraq, yet NO is higher on the list. Regardless of what statistics they used, there's definitely a difference between first world "dangerous" and otherwise.

It's funny how contextual all of this stuff is. I am in St. Louis right now, but where I am is about as safe as you could possibly imagine. I'd have to travel about 10 miles (as the crow flies) before I saw a place that one might even remotely question their safety.

If we could count the county in those stats (St. Louis City & St. Louis County are "separate") it would disappear from all of these dangerous city lists.

According to the newsletter I get from the mayor, St. Louis is always misrepresented on these lists because they calculate the city murder rate from only the downtown population.

For some reason St. Louis has 1.3 million people, but they only count the crime statistics of the 300k that live downtown.

Haha, I beat you by like 5 seconds.

Can't believe how much violence is still in N.O. It was bad right after Katrina and still going.

New Orleans has been dangerous and beat to shit for a long, long time

.
Granted we were only there for a week and a half, but in seeing most of New Orleans' neighborhoods, the only sketchy parts also looked 95% abandoned. The rest was very bright/friendly/crowded. Weird.

Try walking through them at night. You'll see how abandoned they are.

Meh, I've been to New Orleans and I felt safe there. However I have been to Detroit as well, and I didn't even feel safe there in the day time. It was a ghost town. Felt like the zombies would have come out at night.

The USA cities are not surprising although I wonder if they're a bit due to stereotype to be honest (particularly Baltimore... The Wire!). Mexico, Central and South America are super safe!

Yeah shit is bad here in Brazil. Don't come here! hue hue hue

Wait my city isn't on the list. :lol
(I work in the juvenile delinquency department of our state prosecutor office and things are shitty in here too, make no mistake)

Woa! Chihuahua, Mexico is #8. My company has a plant down there and I go down there a fair amount. Didn't realize it would be up so high it's not too bad around there. It is mexico though.... Maybe I just haven't seen the real bad areas.

or maybe you are not in a cartel so you don't have to fear anything ?
people don't
always
just shoot random people

lol I feel ashamed that PR is on that list, even though I live like 3 hours away from that city, fucked up city. We had like 1,200 murders last year and the San Juan area has like 90% of those murders lol

Edit: Is this list really worldwide? none from Africa? Middle East? damn

Edit 2: NVM, I just read that it's for cities with 300k people or more.

... Or am I?! ;)

Very true though. There's an applebees directly next to the hotel I stay at in Chihuahua. A retired police chief was grabbing some lunch there and some cartels drove up next to the window and shot him through the window. Crazy sure, but I found it even crazier that they repaired and cleaned everything and were open for dinner.

My hometown "Chiwas" is usually a normal city as you can probably tell from your stay there, but due to its location it became a desirable spot for rival bands (local and out of town) that while they usually kill between them they also diversify their criminal activities, carjacking being one of the worse ones. But it still is a very live able city imo. It used to be very peaceful :/

Baltimore is pretty safe as long as you don't stray too far away from the Inner Harbor/Fell's Point. Go one block too far, and yeah, you'll find yourself into some streets straight out of The Wire.
That being said, I don't feel like B-More should be on that list. Heck, nothing ever happened to me while I lived there, whereas I got mugged at knife point by crackheads (sweet, delicious irony) in Dublin within a month after moving there.
