WoW Open Beta

Well, it IS a paid for open beta. Simple as that.

I hope Blizzard doesn't plan on using bittorrent as the delivery service for WoW. That would simply suck ass.

Ugh, man it's so annoying. Doing all the noob quests and people just keep on camping the spawns. It takes forever to kill a bunch of friggin goblins and crap. You'd think after 10 years of MMORPGs they'd figure out a way around this stupid stupid design problem. SOOOO boring and SOOOOOOO annoying.

This is so much better/polished/stable than the last stress test. I am well enthused about this now. I'm cancelling my CoH account until City of Villians ships.

I cannot belive how different it feels to play the different races. Last stress test I played a Night Elf Hunter to lvl16 and an Undead Rogue to lvl10, and its like night and day.

Was wondering if this final stress test version will be the same as the upcoming open beta? Meaning, are we going to have to download another version once open beta starts?

Just wanna clear something up as far as I know:

Europe is NOT going to be involved with this ST or OB. It will be taken care of at a "later time."

My question is tho... I have an American Computer in Europe. Can I or can't I use that to play IN Europe? Couldn't I simply just connect to a US server and be done with it?

...regardless... I still can't play it until I get these ports sorted out on this fucking server... but can someone answer me, please? :)

You'll have to import a copy of the game from the U.S... And then pray they sell gamecards, because if not you'll need a credit card that has a U.S. billing address.

Uh ... no. It isn't. The stress test is paid, the open beta is not. Simple :D

It's semantics and it's bullshit. You're still paying for a beta. They're not calling it a beta, but it's still a god damn beta.

Btw, FilePlanet exclusive next week: $5 payment and FilePlanet will let you whitewash their fence!

Well here's some more "semantics" for you. If you decided to buy into Fileplanet then that was your choice. This was for existing FP subs as a bonus much like all the other bonus betas they get into first.

If you wait a week, you pay nothing. Call the people who joined FP for this stooges if you need to vent, but Blizzard is in the right here. No one is forced to pay for beta. Its their option for being impatient.

This current ST client is the same as what you'll be using in Open Beta. The only difference will be a pretty hefty patch everyone has to download in a couple of days.

I don't get these people.

Why would you defend a company that OBVIOUSLY didn't think of the customers first when doing this? They struck a deal with FilePlanet and I imagine they must've gotten money or free advertising out of it, but they are the sole winners of this.

I understand taking a neutral position (hey, I personally don't see the big deal, I'll wait a week, even when I have a closed beta account,) but defending a company is just ridiculous when it's obvious the customer was the one last in their minds when making this deal.

You haven't refuted any points of my responce. I'm hardly a b-net fanboy. Its stated very clearly in my last post why no one is paying for beta.

Does it matter if they call it a stress test or a beta? It's still really lame that people have to pay to try to crash their servers. I'll wait until next week and play the *free* crash test.

I had no intention to refute your points, flawed as they might be.

RIGHT NOW, it IS a pay-for beta.

Next week, it won't.

Whoever wants to play the game right now, has to pay for it.

I don't see anything really wrong with this, but why would anyone side with Blizzard when it's the fans that are losing. Sure it's no big deal, but still.

Not a problem considering I am simply an American currently abroad.

So all I need is a US Credit Card? and the US version of the game? Easy.

Much better night tonight. Getting used to the Rogue combo's and abilities. Made quite a bit of cash and got lvl 8!

Great fun

Whoa, looks like WoW is done already and we're playing the release candidate:

4. Re: Why did the client need to be redownloaded? | 11/3/2004 6:30:39 PM GMTST

Several technical changes were made to the client and installer. We had people re-download the client so that all the beta people will not need to re-install upon release of the game. You will just need to get a CD key and you're good to go.

Pretty cool. Since the Hunter and Paladin talents are going to be in in less than a week, I'm guessing that the on release day there is going to be a patch for the talents for the people that install the retail version.

This game is just insanely good. I mean it's like Blizzard just got tired of playing everyone elses crap in the MMORPG area and decided to show them how to do a game.

"Whoever wants to play the game right now, has to pay for it. "

I've had a FilePlanet subscription for two years now. I love it. No waiting, access to beta tests, etc. It's a good deal for me.

Whoever wants to play the game right now, has to pay for it.

Except for all the people that were in closed beta. You do realize they don't need a fileplanet subscription to continue playing don't you?

awesome game so far

I found thrall

wowbeta3.jpg

Im level 8 warrior horde

I have blacksmithing and minind as my 2 professions

and fishing as a secondary skill

whats the difference between secondary skills and professions?

I guess they made him weaker so that people actually have a chance at killing him. Thrall is extremely strong and wise, but he's still young. There must be creatures stronger than him in the world.

I know this is all very likely subject to change, but it doens't reflect well to have Thrall 63, and some random guards at newbie towns level 75.

I went ahead and installed the WOW open beta program, not knowing you could watch an intro for it. A couple friends were over and I have my PC hooked up to my HDTV... They were floored and had me replay it one more time for them. They are totally into Lineage II, but after watching the intro are going to get WoW when it comes out. :)

For those of you that have been playing the game. Are the spell effects pretty cool? The one thing I hated about Lineage was the spell effects. Final Fantasy XI has had the best effects in a MMORPG that I've seen so far.

To be honest, it's one of WoW's weakpoints. Spells don't look at all powerful with exception to a few (Mage's ice PBAOE comes to mind). It's something the devs I believed said they were gonna work on post-retail. I don't mind just getting more powerful of base spells in a game, but at least have a graphic that shows your fireball is growing in strength.

they're going to change it with this next patch so the highest levels of any NPCs is level 63.

oh and Thrall would be about impossible to kill, I was in orgrimmar a few weeks ago when some alliance tried to get to him and kill him... one dwarf priest managed to get into thrall's chamber, and he killed her in like two hits.

So, is the stress test installer going to be the same as the open beta installer? When open beta is announced I don't want to be waiting 10+ hours to finish downloading the installer when I could download it now.

The installer that is in this thread is the Open Beta installer, go ahead and download it now, so you'll be ready when they announce sign-ups. :)

I'm pretty sure they have plans for a Roleplaying server in the future, but for now there is just normal(have to attack enemy npc's or toggle to PVP) and PVP(can always pvp no matter what) servers.

Will the characters played in the Open Beta be kept for the release of the game, or will they delete everything?

I don't think I'll open beta test it (I already did close beta), since I'm way too swamped and don't want to waste time on a character to then have it wiped out.
