building and leveling your character has tons of depth. WoW = perfection!

Shouta said:Leveling is only faster for players that don't spend a lot of time in game actually. Once you get used to the mechanics, FFXI is faster up until 61 where then it becomes a nasty ass timesink/slow leveling process. The only problem there is parties (woo dumb people ahoy!). I hit 13 in like 10-11 hours yesterday at this low level. I would get 20-25 in FFXI if I had a party that wasn't full of morons (yay! -_-)
Ditto.MrCheez said:Going to have to disagree. Strongly. >_<
Levels come at a very brisk pace in WoW. FFXI felt like the slowest moving MMO out of all the ones I have played.

The thing is though, getting that "ACTUAL xp" was damn hard work. You can't just ignore the "setting up" part, because that is still part of your playtime and therefore is still part of this argument IMO. It shouldn't take luck to progress me in the game. Because after the first handful of levels soloing is not efficient, you are forced to group. And finding a group and actually leveling in one was very very difficult and flawed. (The level range in groups that allowed for decent xp was very small). For me, I had to be super lucky to find a group and get good xp out of it.
In WoW, you can turn in quests for usually a 1/6th or maybe even a 1/4th of a level. You can solo efficiently. The game has little downtime, but you can also use food or drink to decrease it even further.
It's funny we're having this dicussion because MANY people are complaining the leveling speed in WoW is TOO fast, and are petitioning to get it increased.
You just level slow. Lvl 20 in 12 hours is a go.

I am dying for the WoW servers to come back up currently.
EDIT: BTW a handful of them are back up.![]()

Shouta said:I banged my way to 61 quickly when I was actually leveling. Not that slow. See my above post about why the overall game feels slow.
Been doing both quests and monsters and combating the lag =|.
krypt0nian said:Crap...I got in game for about 30secs and was dumped. =)
I must be lucky since I have seen no lag at all so far in the open beta on Eastern Test 20. Of course if the server is in the same place the closed beta servers were that got hit by a tornado a couple months ago, its only a 5 minute drive away.MrCheez said:The lag has been horrible for OB, and is NOT the norm.I hope they fix it with today's downtime.
Why does it seem like the Alliance races aren't as good?
Kintaro said:One more question. How are the professions? Easy to skill? Worthwhile stuff to make at all lvls? Do they all work together pretty well? What's the lowdown on this. This is something I would have loved to get into hardcore in FFXI, but it's amazingly tedious after a point to the point of boredom.
MrCheez said:The professions are a BLAST. I love them. The one big complaint people tend to have is that drops or quest rewards tend to be as good as or sometimes better than what you can usually craft for your level. However you can of course still sell your creations (you'll learn to know and love the auction house) , and keep your slots full until you find better gear. Then there are always the professions that provide enhancements other than armor, such as buff/heal potions and engineering gadgets (such as bombs).
Basically the way most people go about professions is they take a gathering skill and a crafting skill. Everything about professions is graphical, easy to learn, quick, and fun. You learn new recipes from trainers or find them out in the world. You have a window for your profession and can see all your recipes and what they require. You also get an "ability" for your gathering skills to locate items you need on your radar. (An herbalist will see where plants are, a miner will see where mineable ore is).
I have never been a crafter in any MMO, but I adore it in WoW.![]()

Maybe, it's just the classes I'm wanting to play. Obviously, gnomes would be perfect Mage's (you would think) based on stats
But I don't understand why you're making the distinction between the overall game and the leveling xp itself?
It might take someone 3 hours due to the 'overall game' to GET to the 1 hour of fast leveling. And that 1 hour of fast leveling could be attained instantly in WoW.
When I refer to leveling and game speed, I mean your overall experience and how much time you are putting in. Is it safe to assume that the fast xp you talk about in FFXI was only possible due to constantly rolling with a hardcore guild? That's really not realistic for most players.

Update:
All Central and Eastern servers are now back online. Mountain and Pacific servers require further maintenance. We do not yet have an ETA on when they will be brought back online, but we hope to have them up shortly.
