WoW Open Beta

Hoo Hoo! They botched up this server maintenance!

C'mon Blizz! Let's get this together.

Plus I can't post on the boards all of a sudden as it logs me in as Anonymous again. =\

I can't login at all right now, just get "unable to connect" mesage

Okay i've got an account but I haven't downloaded the client (reached my monthly limit) where is the best place to download or can't I sign up now since open beta has stopped any new registrations as well?

I'm pretty sure if you've made the account then you can play as soon as you get the client. I started getting the client using the blizzard downloader but i was getting terrible speeds so i just got it off fileplanet at my max speed.

Hehe, I had the client downloaded and installed more than a week before the open beta. Downloaded the stress test client when Blizzard made the mistake of putting it unprotected on their webspace. All so I could create an account and play immediatly afterwards :D

One more question. How are the professions? Easy to skill? Worthwhile stuff to make at all lvls? Do they all work together pretty well? What's the lowdown on this. This is something I would have loved to get into hardcore in FFXI, but it's amazingly tedious after a point to the point of boredom.
They're kind of weird. At low levels professions make items way better than most quest rewards, and near the max of the skill (which is 300) at the artisan level with specializations, they make some truly awesome items. In between there's not that much good stuff - some is ok, others are worthless, but they're really easy to skill up. There's never been an item I've had to make to skill up in a profession that hasn't required items the main gathering skill provides, so when you do stuff like blacksmithing, you're always going to have something you can make using minerals/stones from mining, for example. Even engineering (probably the costliest profession - either that, tailoring or maybe alchemy) is really easy to work with.

And you can always get 2 gathering skills (herbalism, mining, skinning) as your professions and just make tons of cash.

That was horrible!

So I'm watching Screen Savers and they are trying to hype the Open beta of WoW. They try and log on with Kevin's account and since its a live show, they can't get online either! :lol

I love me some WoW but that just looked bad.

Oops! lol Try to give the game some exposure and see what happens... :lol

uhh this is unbelievable. The "lag" which isn't latency is sometimes 1-2 minutes behind my actions!? :lol

It's not just me it's constant complaints in the general chat. It's unbelievable.. sometimes it's low and like 10 second "lag".. which is reasonable... other times it's literally like 2 minutes before the game catches up.

It's not lag it's just the server being pinged I think. My latency was 140 during some of it.. crazy wierd, but it's basically unplayable.

Pretty weird, I've been hoping from servers to servers creating chars tonight with a friend to check out all the big cities and we haven't experienced any lag at all.

I've also tried the night elf for the first time, wow, beautiful surroundings.

Man... trying to meet up with shouta is a pain. Do I really have to run through areas with mobs lv20-30? Surely there is an easier way to get from the NE starting area to the Human starting area for a low level character.

hmm well am a lvl 9 Troll Hunter now I think. Pretty fun for the most part.. the world is fairly spread out. It definately seems like the repair costs for equip are going up pretty fast. I can understand where people at higher levels might b every annoyed with it.

Maybe it is the time of day that I play, but I have not seen even 1 sec of lag at all in OB or the stress tests combined.

PST servers not as laggy maybe??

question whats the exact size of the client.zip off fileplanet?

Mine gets to 1.99 GB and stops. Trying to download it again to see if it works. Oh and btw, fuck you all who have non shitty computers. >:(

Oh fuck me,

I missed 'open beta' signups...and now they're closed...and thats despite the fact that I have this entire damn 2 gig monstrosity already installed on my pc just waiting for me to log in. Thrawted by a lack of authorization. Oh, woe is me.

Server 13 is totally screwed at the moment. The scheduled maintenance didn't fix shit. It's incredibly laggy...adding an item to your inventory, bidding on an auction, etc., make you unable to perform any more actions for like 5 minutes. Game's unplayable.

yeah its real eratic(sp) right now it varies from choppy to slightly less chopy...and this is extra annoying now that i finally picked the pet i want.

I fucking hate BT. I'm getting 20 kb/sec download speeds and my connection is literally unusable while it's running. I've been letting the torrent run over night for the last few nights and I'm FINALLY at 96% downloaded. I should be playing by later today. >:|

Questions:

1. Is there an easier way to view what equipment someone is wearing. I was PT'd with another level 10 Hunter and I just wanted to see what kind of axe he was using. It's infuriating. You basically have to ask them to hold frickin still. Even the slightest movement makes the screen go away.

2. Is there somewhere i can view what stage of Rested I'm at?

3. Hunter-specific: Can Hunters use small shields eventually? I started with a 1H Axe. I see I can learn to dual wield at 20. Should I begin learning a 2H weapon or dual wielding ASAP?

FYI, Fileplanet has re-opened account activation iif you already have a key...dunno how that would help anyone, but maybe the blizzard universal one will work there for existing members?

Who knows.

1) You can try asking them to link the item. (If you hit enter to open up the chat bar, then shift click an item description box, it puts a link to the items stats in the chatbar for all to click)

2) Actually, on your exp bar there will be a little grey 'notch'. You're rested until your xp gets past that. If you rest for over a day it'll be a few bubbles past your current xp.

3) To my knowledge they can not use shields. I'm of the opinion that no one other than rogues should dual wield, really. Dual wielding is better than one weapon, but inferior to a 2handed weapon. You take a 25% penalty to missing and a 50% penalty to damage the moment you dual wield. (I -think- those numbers are right. Anyone know? ) In the end because you ARE using an additional weapon it ends up being something like 13% more damage than if you were single dealing I think. But 2handers would be higher damage for ya. Rogues do well with dual wield because they can apply different poisons to each blade and use talents to remove the dual wielding penalties. Also they don't have access to 2handers anyway. ;)

Edit: One thing to keep in mind though, a lot of this depends on your weapon's stats. If you don't have a really good 2hander, there isn't a reason to skip dual wielding. :)

this game is pretty rockin :o

I coulda told you that! :D

So it's safe to assume most of you guys are only playing the dirty alliance temporarily for OB, like I am, right? ;)

Here's me, btw!

FYI for anyone that doesn't know, the lag of actions is when you're adding NEW items to your inventory that you don't already have and resurrecting in the field. Ressurrecting and Adding New Items to your inventory will cause lag in the highly busy areas. The farther you get out the less of a problem is. Go out enough, only adding items becomes an issue, and if you go even farther, there's absolutely no lag. Nataku and I did a ton of mob cavern raiding last night and found only the ones closest to the primary newbie areas (and a little bit of the new secondary areas) were getting pounded with lag.

On that note, I got ressurection last night. Easy as heck quest, heh.

I can't believe how good this game is...last night I stayed up till 5am without really knowing it.

This is the first MMORPG I've really gotten into, but i'm kinda scared to get the full game now with the possilbility of losing my soul to this game.

I like how its little faster paced than other games like FFXI...I watched my cousin play that. My god, what a borefest.

^ EXACTLY!!!

That's the only reason for me not buying this game. The money issue is no issue for me, the possible amount of time lost is!

But I have Half-Life2 installed on my computer waiting for unlockment which gives me a few weeks to think about it. I don't know if that's such a good idea though

I'm seriously considering not buying WoW for the same reason. All I've done since the file planet stress test is play the game - putting in 8 or more hours a day. It's alot more casual than other MMORPG's in that you can progress without playing alot each day, but it's so fun - you can't resist putting in hardcore hours anyway.

If I were single and didn't have a 3 year old kid to attend, I'd get it without question. However, I feel bad about neglecting some of my other duties just to login to play each day. I swore after EverQuest I'd never let myself get that addicted to a game, but here it is happening again. :(

Yea its a nightmare

How do i call a GM? My NE fell off the map and cratered and died, then when I went to me in wisp form, i kinda fell off too, but drop beyond my corpse, so carried on and ended up in the middle of nowhere.

Is there any kind of release command i can do, or how do i call a GM to move me

can you get back to your corpse? if not, there's an icon on the list of options at the bottom that's marked help/technical support, use that to page a GM.

Ah cool, thx, i've sent a request.

I can't get to my corpses, its kinda stuck in a tree where i cratered, and my wisp dropped way beyond it :lol

Yeah, I went the wrong way looking for Ogrimmar earlier in the day and got ravaged by some level 18 horse things a million miles away. I decided to choose the spirit restore me and it cost me my ass in silver to restore my equip. :\

Hunter question: Do my pets already have "growl". Is it just built in? Their is no option for me to use it as a command.. i notice at lvl 20 I can get growl lvl 3. Hmm. It said I learned it maybe it is just passive.

Also, my pet keeps getting more "training points" at the bottom of the profile. I can't find anything to train though. What do I do with those points?

buy the beast training skill from a hunter trainer and use it to teach your pets abilities. they use training points for them, which go up as they increase in loyalty. none of the pets knows growl by default, you have to train it to them, but it's awesome for making your pet into a tank now that they'll actually autocast it as soon as it refreshes.
