WoW Open Beta

is there a /who command to show server population?
I don't know of any way to show full server population without cosmos (a UI mod that had a feature you could use to grab data on who's in what zones on your faction).

/who doesn't work for the other faction and it only shows people with the information you specify. like if you did /who paladin you get a list of 50 (it shows 50 max even if there's more than 50) paladins and where they are, but if you just do /who it shows who's in your level range in the zone you're in.

Blizzard has said that they are running the servers at less than optimal for test purposes. So at least we know that this isn't something that they didn't expect. Still getting kicked off the server four times in a row while fighting the same mob is a bit much.

closed beta servers are doing fine, so it must be population loads on the test servers. i would be playing on a test server but i logged in to my troll priest and the server crashed right away, heh.

Well I submitted a ticket last night, waited an hour or so and ended up going to bed and planned on trying this morning.

Woke up this morning, thinking i had to submit a ticket again. Lo and behold I had an email waiting for me saying they were sorry they couldn't get to me while I was in game, but they have actioned my request and moved me ready for when i log back in.

Nice touch I thought. I didn't mind waiting at all because I knew how hectic it was, i just didn't expect them to carry out my request when i wasn't even logged in.

nice... I've honestly never had to page a GM except for a couple times - once when an alliance mage was exploiting with slowfall to kill npcs in a newbie town off the roof of a building, and to see if they could create an item for a high level quest because the NPC was bugged. both times they were really nice and professional but couldn't really do anything about the things I paged them for.

For those who don't read the WoW forums:

Hi all,

First of all we would like to thank everyone participating in the Open Beta. The development team has been able to gather valuable in-game data over the past few days. Based on this data and your feedback on the forums, we will be making a few changes in the next patch:

- Players will only receive a 25% durability loss instead of 100% when using a Spirit Healer to resurrect

- Players will now only incur a maximum 10 minutes of resurrection sickness instead of 30 minutes when using a Spirit Healer to resurrect

- Some key buff spells will have their reagent requirements removed

- Changes to Warrior’s Defensive Stance that will improve their ability to hold aggro

We are hoping to get the next patch out early next week.

Thank god, it cost me like 4 silver yesterday to fix my gear when I resurrected at level 9. The wierd thing is it ruins all of the gear in your packs!? I can understand the armor you were wearing becoming damaged, but geez.. all my loot :\

A couple more questions.

1. Banks - Why? Do you get interest or what?

2. Auction - I had 3 green items I wanted to sell. I had a 2-handed Axe that was pretty good but there was already one up for sale. When you go to place it for sale their is a deposit line. I cancelled out. Do I have to pay the deposit to put the item up for sale? The deposit was VERY high. I just sold it to a vendor.

Heh, lag is only bad for me the closer I get to populated areas like I said ;p. Nataku and I have been questing in different areas (Westfall and now Lakeshire) so we're keeping ahead of the goons that are clogging up the server. I've got 1.2 gold on me at the moment but I've had like 4-5 gold total made so far. Been doing Enchanting so it's a bit expensive although disenchanting all the green items I don't use is helpful.

All of these early quests are mundane though, repetition is hellllla nasty throughout which is kind of annoying. The loot is rocking though. 5 Silver for 15 pieces of wool is sweet.

Banks- You get extra storage space. This is ungodly necessary for most of the trade skills.

Auction House- Initial deposit is based on how long auction is. The deposit is refunded if your auction sells. It's just to prevent people from throwing every piece of junk up on auction.

Noob Class- I highly recommend Rouge for a beginner. Attack fast, you don't have to deal with aggro management (Which is basically defines a good hunter), and the combo system is fairly intuitive.

Never sell wool/linen to vendors. You can auction it for 2-4x what it goes for easily.

My benefactor just gave me 100+ silk cloths...heh.

I dunno, I'm getting a little bored with the game now, though.

Yea, it kind of dropped off for me too. Loved it at first, but I'm really not finding much to look forward to in the lategame, or even the middle. The instance dungeons are pretty and offer good party challenges and great loot drops, but is that it?

I have almost no interest in PVP at all, unless there is some sort of reward/encompassing purpose to it that I am not seeing. Right now it seems like it is there just because Blizzard can.

I'm hoping in a few months when I finish the wave of console gems these aspects will be polished up. Though I never really spent much time beyond level 30 in FFXI, that game did offer some neat stuff just beyond reach such as the plot missions and conquest stuff. (The massive downtime and grind in between did get on my nerves tho)

for some reason i cant talk in general chat anymore, anyone know why?

when i type /1 it just say s"type /help for chat options"

How much do things like Linens run for in the AH? I saw someone over chat offering like 50 Silver for Malachite. I had just sold 2 to the vendors like an hour beforehand :|

Is there no way to see an overview map. I still haven't been able to train my pet, yet. I'm almost 14th level and he is a loyalty level of 6 (best friend). I think I have 65 training points.

I've tried talkign to the hunter + pet trainers in Orgrimmar and the hunter trainer in Razor Hill. They don't help. The pet trainer in Orgrim just lists out Growl 3, 4, 5, 6 and they are all greyed out. I can train Growl 3 at level 20 it says.

YOu need to go to a lower lvl zone with a pet trainer with Growl 1 and 2.

You need to go and learn other pet abilites from other animals and then teach them to your pet with the Train pet ability you can get.

Here is a list of abilites and what mobs give them. It's a little outdated though, I think.
http://www.somewowguild.pixelbard.com/hunters.html

What you do is go buy a stable (5 silver I think) and put your current pet in that stable, then go out to an area with the mob that has an ability you want to learn. Tame that mob, feed him until he's happy, and fight mobs. After 5 or so fights you'll learn that ability. You can abdon that pet (click on his name and click abadon) and then go back and get your old pet out of the stables and teach him the new ability.

Hmm.. Pacific 31 just crashed (and proably other servers froms the looks of it). Had a 10 min lag session and then everyone was kicked. Chat still worked, though. Everyone was bitching saying "I'm not buying this game if this is what the lag is gonna be like." Guess they forgot that they're in a beta... :lol

No shit, with more than 500k players.

I just got booted but I didn't get any lag at all all day, I think it's because I'm on a beta server and not on a test server overrun by the new OB folks :)

i actually fell asleep one time when the game got real laggy and almost at a standstill...i woke up and found my character and pet dead :D :lol

Where's everyone on Pacific 31?

It's such a lonely game... it's almost like a single player game with dynamic in game chat for me right now :p

My character name is: Feori (LV14 Nightelf Hunter) and handle: Zaptruder

send me a contact if you're in game!

Er... when the servers get back up that is.

Only myself and Nataku are on Pacific 31 as I recall. I'm under Lenneth (19 Human Paladin) and He's Finoria (18/19 NightElf Hunter).

Well, they've said that they're going to put in a pvp rewards system. That's the whole point of the honorable/dishonorable kills in pvp (honorable = around your level or above it, dishonorable = way below your level). It's supposed to be one of the three big "endgames" planned in WOW. The other 2 are pve raids, and then there's hero classes (which are meant for solo players).

I joined P-31 but I'm on the Horde side. I solo'd my way to 15 now, but it would be nice if there was someone around to do questing with.

I'm stuck on a low level Orc quest, somebody please help. :O

I'm supposed to retreive a medalion from a the cave full of Familiars Northeast of the Den. The same cave where you found that one dude's pick axe.I can't find it, I assumme it spawns on top of the ledge in the cave, but I'm not able to get up there. I tried waiting for a while and watching others complete the quest, but the only thing I saw people jumping around like retards trying to get up there. Over. And Over. And Over.
:lol

Any ideas?

Take the first path on the right, I believe. Follow along the right wall.

Yeah... you have to kill the boss (lvl 6 I believe) at the very top. To get up there instead of going left from the entrance, go right, and it will swing around the outside of the cave untill it reaches that top area... you may have to wait for him to respawn if a few ppl are there killing him.

I'm a lvl 10 troll hunter on p31 server. Look me up this evening to go questing...name FreakyFink.

I started a Gnome Mage for kicks. Mage's seem simple, but fun. The gnome voices are annoying as hell though.. especially in comparison to the cool Troll voices.
