ok im gonna throw some cold water on here.

The attitude / monday night wars era was probably the BEST time for wrestling you will ever see.

It had WCW v WWF war going on that had awesome, edgey, new angles (nWo, Sting, DX, Austin, Rock, Hardy Boys spotfests, Etc) that we hadnt seen before (coming from the super hero wwf and the utterly awful prebischoff wcw). It had ecw (dude did you hear about ecw that stuff is like REAL or something...*lol*).

And it was just a fun time to be a wrestling fan.

The lack of competition has hurt more than anything, and imo the ONLY good thing that has come with the wwe monopoly is the awesome dvds, that can finally touch upon people careers other than when they were in wwe.

If anything its kinda sad that wwe doesnt seem to have any standout personalities, I mean where is the next rocks, triple h, hbk, angle, etc?

HHH- Close to retiring
HBK- Said his careers winding down
Angle- Id be suprised if hes still ALIVE in 5 years
Benoit- Close to retiring
Taker- Ditto
Eddie- Dead
Jericho- Retired

i mean they have shelton, carlito, and maybe kenny from spirit squad. There just isnt any up and comers to get excited over, and the current entertainment is from guys who should be passing the torch, but have no one to pass it to.

Edge will probably be the main guy for a few years, then it'll be Orton, Cena, Punk, Carlito, Shelton, Kenny, some other guys we haven't seen or heard of yet, and Ken Kennedy

what does Kennedy have...I'm really looking for it here. He's over about the same as Estrada who both say their names.

You're helping my point. Estrada is way over. Umaga is just there.

Kennedy is better in the ring than Umaga, but also has charisma and greatness on the mic like Armandoooooooooo

There are some good things, there are some bad things.

The best thing is
SAMOA JOE'S IN THE ****ING TITLE PICTURE! YES!

Why is that a such a good thing? Now we get to see him wrestle a bunch of slugs instead of guys who can actually put on great matches with him. About the only heavyweight in TNA worthy of getting in the ring with Joe is Abyss. And the way they took the belt off him is a joke. Atleast let him and Low Ki have a few battles first.

Well I'm glad repeating of name designates overness to you

Because that's not like chanting WHAT or YOU SUCK =p

But seriously, he's by far the best thing Smackdown has going for it, and I've always thought he was full of potential. He just has such a likable persona. He could get over as either a heel or face.

Agreed.
I thought for sure they were going to have a Senshi/Joe feud, and it would have been awesome. But now they're quickly moving Joe into the title picture and everything feels rushed and shitty, even if it is a good move. Joe winning the X belt back from Daniels a few months ago was totally pointless, and it exposes TNA for not having any long-term booking plans in place.

A long build-up to Joe's heavyweight title reign would have been spectacular.

It's obvious though that Joe is the only superstar they have. They're better off pushing him now and trying to give him a rub from guys like Steiner and Sting while they still can.

It was entertaining, but yes, you guys are over-selling it.

Totally. If you were 12 years old this was the RAW for you. Besides Hunter casually beating around the bush about who Steph's baby's father was it was forced and nothing new. JR crying about his hat after Mickie stole it was more entertaining.

This just in; wrestling is catered to the younger audience...I don't know what you guys expect out of the new DX, it was good for what it was worth so far.

What do you mean what?

Look at the whole title scene last year. Look at the people in the stands, wrestling is geared towards ages 16- down these days as those are the people buying the merchandice from the product....thats why Cena is face because of all of the kiddies continiously buying his crap.

Baststa and Cean can not wrestle and the older auidence knows that, it's the younger crowd that keeps them a float by buying their shit.

Biohazard is kinda right.....
Vinnie will keep insisting that his stuff is marketed for the 18-35 crowd....which is bullshit. He has a dumbed down product filled with colorful cartoon characters that sell toys and video games. To the younger, casual crowd it's not about the in-ring product.

In-ring is what the more hardcore (like myself) enjoy. This is where TNA, ROH and Puro excel. This should also be ECW's focus. Maintain that older demographic with solid in ring work. If they truly want to diversify the WWE product across all three brands, then they all need to offer something different. So far, that's not happening.

We'll find out tonight if ECW is a non-factor though. If they tank it again tonight, then they are all but dead to me as well as the older fans. GET THEM OUT OF THE ****ING SMACKDOWN TAPINGS AND KEEP STEPH AS FAR AWAY AS ****ING POSSIBLE!!!

Looks like I was right about the 2nd edition of ECW on Sci-Fi....It will be another vengence infomerical it seems. We already know that Edge & Orton(Legend Killer Bitches!!!!!) have a match, but John Cena is at the venue and will no doubt make an appereance.

I have high hopes for the tag match as all 4 participants are good workers.

oh...and the Zombie is also back stage as well.

A Suicidal Statement
By Brett Hoffman, ecw.com
June 19, 2006

Last night on RAW, Extreme Championship Wrestling delivered on a promise from their spokesman, Paul Heyman. That promise, was that RAW would be under siege at the hands of the hardcore ECW wrestlers. Heyman manipulated Jonathon Coachman into giving him a dream tag-team match for ECW on Sci Fi, Sabu once again delivered a crushing blow to John Cena and Rob Van Dam made a 5-star statement to the Rated-R Superstar.

With RAW in complete disarray, mostly a result of the absence of Mr. McMahon, and the presence of D-Generation X, Heyman seized the opportunity to take advantage of a vulnerable Jonathon Coachman. The ECW representative backed Coachman into a corner, making a proposal that RAW’s Executive Assistant had no choice but to accept. “Jonathon, I realize you’re having a really rough evening, surely you realize I’m not here alone. In your parking lot I have a bus load of my ECW rebels, ready to tear Monday Night RAW apart if I give the word. Tonight, we could have a full scale invasion of RAW. I want to negotiate... Tomorrow night on Sci Fi, I’m envisioning an inter-promotional dream tag team match. Edge, with Lita, will team up with the Legend Killer Randy Orton, and on the other side, I see ECW’s Olympic Champion Kurt Angle, teaming up with ECW World Heavyweight Champion, Rob Van Dam. (watch the video)

Fearing the ramifications of playing hardball with the ECW spokesman, Coachman relented. But Heyman wasn’t done. Before letting Jonathon off the hook, Heyman demanded a match for RAW. “Last week on RAW, your John Cena took a steel chair and wrapped it around the head of ECW’s Balls Mahoney. Balls didn’t deserve it. It was an unprovoked attack typical of a thug like John Cena. So tonight, I propose Balls Mahoney vs. John Cena.” Again fearing retribution, Coachman gave in. Heyman, always the master manipulator, had done it again.

The match between Balls and Cena was exactly what the fans expected, a short and brutal slugfest. The two exchanged a series of violent right hands before things finally broke down. Balls, perhaps feeling out of his element reached for his trademark steel chair. When he turned around, Cena was waiting for him and brought him down with a drop toe hold. Moments later, Balls was tapping out to the STFU. Despite a letdown in the match itself, ECW would get its revenge in the form of a post-match attack.

ECW’s Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Sabu made his way to the ring and unleashed another brutal attack on his Vengeance opponent. First, a chair shot incapacitated the former WWE Champ. Then, with Cena laid out on the announce table, Sabu executed his patented Triple Jump Legdrop off the top rope, crashing through Cena to the arena floor. Six days away from Vengeance, Cena was once again introduced to the world of hardcore, and in the process, left a softened, bloody mess. Moments after the match, it was announced that their meeting at Vengeance would be fought under Extreme Rules. (watch the video)

Later on RAW, Extreme Championship Wrestling struck again. WWE and ECW World Heavyweight Champion Rob Van Dam delivered a post match assault on his Vengeance opponent and challenger to his gold, Edge. After his victory over the legendary Ric Flair, Edge took the opportunity to celebrate with Lita, and his One Night Stand partner Mick Foley. With his back turned, RVD came through the crowd and stormed the ring. Van Dam took out both Edge and Foley, and delivered a soaring 5-Star Frog Splash on the Rated-R Superstar. Less than a week from Vengeance, the first shot was fired, and it was landed by ECW’s Rob Van Dam. (watch the video)

Tonight, ECW will again broadcast live on Sci-Fi. Last Tuesday, ECW was both Sci Fi, and the entire cable world’s No. 1 rated show. After what happened on RAW with ECW dominating the action, things are only going to heat up as the road to Vengeance continues. See the extreme action for yourself when the new breed is unleashed at 10/9 CT, live and only on Sci Fi.

Get ready for another craptacular episode of ECW!

I'm not going to past full judgement on ECW until it actually starts to be run like a seperate entity, which will hopefully be after Vengence.

One thing about this week is that there hopefully is more WRESTLING, as i don't think there is a promo scheduled--even though Cena will probably come out and ramble for 10mins before calling out Sabu...

The plan as of last week was to tape SmackDown! first tonight from Albany, NY and do ECW live. There aren't as many concerns about the crowd chants.

According to sources, tonight's ECW show will be shot completely different and Heyman was given a a lot of leeway this week.

Angle & RVD vs. Orton & Edge will be a long drawn out match.

John Cena is at the arena and will do an angle with Sabu. His eye is busted.

Taped live, Heyman more freedom, tag-match is actually going to be given the time to be a good match!!!

Looks like we're in for a much better show already!

More wrestling is encouraging... very encouraging.

Problem number one: when is ECW going to have PPVs?

If they don't that means they will have to be on the other WWE shows in order to promo their own show. Meaning that they really will never be a separate entity until WWE gives them separate PPVs.

I want to believe that Hayman will be able to book the show how he wants but I'm going to take the I'll believe it when I see it mentality. Also I'm hoping that Sabu will mess up a spot and put Cena on the shelf for at least the rest of the year.

His eye is supposed to be in a massive lump right now...

...maybe that will silence the screaming girls :D

Even if ECW turns out ****ing great and keeps getting better and better, Vince will take over that shit. As soon as it gets too good and everyone gets too comfortable with where the show is at, Vince will take that as an excuse to start dipping his balls in the Kool-Aid.

No matter what, Heyman and ECW can't win. Heyman needs to get out of his contract and go to ROH or TNA where he'll be appreciated and given a fair amount of booking power.

Edit: And now the wrestlers on ECW.com are called "Rebels." Dumb.

I agree but hopefully it spur vince to show better wrestling (yeah i know that wont happen either lol) if anything it just makes the games roster better for smarks (and yes I tolerate the gameplay).

and i dont see vince letting heyman OR bischoff loose at this time, with tna etc.

Yes, but it will have lower ratings than last week. Meaning Vince will take it over next week, and the smarks will complain, so Heyman takes it over again in 2 weeks, and is accompanied by another drop because Vince's show was so bad...again.

POWWWWWWWW! :lol Awesome

If Sabu ever loses to a WWE wrestler, its a ****ing joke. Look how many years Sabu has been in brutal matches, and for him to lose to a fool like Cena...what a joke! It looks like he will beat Sabu though :( I can see it happening when Cena's personality takes a "darker" edge. ¬_¬

Anyway, I thought Sabu was gonna mess that move up because he wasnt directly in line with the announcers table, and I really thought he was gonna lose his balance. Anyway, that seems like payback for when he missed the Steel Chair leg drop on him before. BOTCHED...but it still looked half decent because the table broke.

E C DUB!
E C DUB!
E C DUB!
E C DUB!

:D

I really hope its a good episode today, last weeks show was too short and the atmosphere just seemed off. ;/
