I just tried to open my photos folder on my PC to transfer some of my last smartphone pictures to it, then I receive a message saying: "You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click continue to permanently get access to this folder."; then I click continue, and "You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab".

Then I go to that security tab thing > advanced and on owner there is like that: "Unable to display current owner", and a option to change.

Then I change it to administrator, so I can open the folder, but still I cant do anything to it, and when I try to change the permissions I only get errors.

I was able to move out some of my most recent photos changing that "ownership" of the folder, but all of my old travel photos are sutck there no matter what I do, and I cant do anything to it, not even move or delete the damn folder! ¬¬

It happened out of nowhere because I've never changed any permission. Also I am my computer administrator so that feel like a damn nonsense!

Here is an axample of what is happening:

Someone have any clue of what may be happening?

Could be malware, could be bad hard drive.
Tough to say without access.

Maybe someone else will have a current utility.

You tried any of the "Take Ownership" tools?

Not sure, where I check that?

What is strange is that only that folder is getting this "error". And only some of them I can't even move or edit after trying to change the folder ownership.

I will scan my computer with both Windows Defender and Malwarebytes!

Thanks, I will try that!

Edit: I don't know what the hell that "take ownership" thing do, but that damn solved the problem! Thanks a lot!

The thing is... could that be a bug that came with an Windows Update, a hardware malfunction or some malware? That is SO strange.

Maybe with an update. Some kind of legacy problem maybe.

Have you reset? Sometimes the folder is "gone" but it still shows up, so when you try and delete it there's an error. Or a background process it trying to write it so there's an error. Usually a reset fixes it.

Happened to me before too. I had to take ownership and disable UAC. and then disable read only for all files and subfolders.

I had a similar issue with windows once - it was an update folder (whose very long name made the thing even more annoying). Turns out it was a common issue, with a weird fix for it. So it's not necessarily a virus/malware.

But be careful.

I had this happen before, it wouldn't let me delete the file either.

So I made a file with the same name and deleted it and that somehow fixed the problem, you could try that OP.
