Wukong director on the delay of Xbox port directly for the first time: need couple of years optimization experience to handle the shared 10 GB RAM

The Xbox Series Potato strikes again. I’m still struggling to understand why the idiots at MS are so fixated on split RAM especially after it did the XB1 no favors last gen.
Cost savings to be able to hit a price point (which they still weren't able to hit and had to pay hardware subsidies due to other bad hardware design calls).

This is why smart corporations don't talk about shit like this. It can come back and bite them in the ass. Folks keep wanting Sony to weigh in. Why would they? Instead of playing bullshit PR games, Sony helped ensure the game was running on PlayStation and didn't say a word about it or even promote the game. Action over words.
I honestly don't understand it, like even if Sony DID strike a deal over the game, that just makes Microsoft look bad at their jobs for not beating them to the punch or outbidding them.

This game did not come out of nowhere, even a pleb like me was able to see how big it was gonna hit, Microsoft has no excuse for missing out on this game:
Just so people can understand, this game is rn the #1 wishlisted title on Steam, even surpassing Silksong.

This is going to be a much bigger launch than most anticipated and someone at Microsoft is absolutely seething that they won't be part of it.

Thats because up until around June 2024 the game was multiplatform. And something happened during the showing of the game in June/July that made Sony agree to helping with getting the PS5 version up to a playable form. So no time or intention for Sony to suddenly market the game and publish as some big time exclusive, it was more of an agreement to help the developer out while also making some easy ROI. Everything after that is on the noob developer and their big mouths complaining about having to put some work in. And some people then using this for console war ammo.

The game was never shown on any Sony showcases, they never even had blogposts for it.

There are no secret exclusivity deals, the entire point of exclusivity is to be able to tout it out and make sure your platform is associated with it in the public eye.

The Xbox team is just terrible at their jobs is all.

Aside from the points Astray Astray made, if anyone is using this for "console war ammo" it is Microsoft. Their "big mouths" are what has blown this up into a controversy. All the "noob developer" has said was that they needed to put more technical work in to get the Xbox version done. Microsoft are the ones who started commenting on things they say they can't comment on.

Don’t ever buy games full priced unless it’s from an experienced developer. Indie devs will never fool me with their full priced games.

I mean, you could consider Shift up and Round8 studios being "indie" studios releasing "full priced priced games" and yet, both Stellar Blade and Lies of P are really, really, REALLY good both from a production/technical standpoint AND gameplay one, in fact I'd go as far as to say that they've put out 2 of the more polished games out there of the last few years compared to most studios out there.

...Unless of course you only play Naughty Dog and Rockstar games which take almost 10 years to make with an "infinite" budget to boot.

Now, studios like Bloober team on the other hand...they've always been and will always be subpar/hacks - just look at what happened to Silent Hill 2 Remake which has been broken for the past few months on the PS5 Pro, now THAT I'd agree with.

Tell me you haven't played the PC version of this game without telling me you haven't played the PC version of this game.

But hey, maybe you guys complaining should just sell your xbox consoles and buy a PC with those specs instead. That way at least you can "play" the game you desire and it won't cost you much.

A former PS dev can optimize better than some attention seeking hacks in China.

Oh dear.

That's a momentary "current fps" during a flythrough benchmark.

If he really wanted to show something then he'd post something like this (which would also show the complete specs for the PC along with the settings and resolution being used):

Also, nice zenophobia by the way, keep it up.

It’s called xenophobia. Know what you’re trying to label people before you do it.

And it has nothing to do with them being Chinese, so stop the fucking racism accusations to defend a plastic box. NetEase is a Chinese developer using the exact same engine (UE5) and Marvel Rivals is one of the most impressive games on the Pro.

Maybe, just maybe, Game Science is a shit dev who let the attention from their tech demo go to their heads.

Only thing that tweet shows is that even devs can post fanboy bullshit.
In his bio it says "Former PS and Xbox hardware dev, now making AI GPUs".

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the correct label be "Hardware Engineer" or something similar? Is "Hardware dev" even an term?

Edit: Of course I can be wrong but his bio sounds like jibberisch made up from popular tech terms more than anything to me.

Edit: Googled it and Hardware Developers are indeed a thing, so maybe he is.

Ah yes, a typo completly invalidates what's being said right?

Why bring up the nationality of the developers if what you're saying isn't laced in xenophobia? (I double checked for no typo's this time, hope that helps you understand better this time)

Nobody here is talking about any "plastic box" other than you. I'm not bringing up the pro version, you are.

I'm simply trying to explain to you how the PC version works (inclusive of how the benchmark works) and you keep on going off on tangents (see references to the PS5 Pro and the nationality of the developers).

Maybe, just maybe, Game Science is a shit dev who let the attention from their tech demo go to their heads.

Their "tech demo" was one of the best games of last year. Clearly this predicament regarding the Series S means that you're no longer able to see things clearly.

I think this game is going to be a harbinger of things to come.. I foresee more and more high-profile skips of Xbox hardware happening in the coming years solely due to Series S.

That's the only valid reason we're seeing so many chimp outs happening rn. This realization is dawning on people in the Xbox hemisphere, and they can't handle it.

Even if one doesn't like the game itself or thinks it's optimized badly, there's no denying that it's a class-leading title in terms of graphical fidelity, probably the 1st 3P game you could unequivocally call "truly next gen" in terms of visuals and scale since maybe Cyberpunk 2077's launch.

There's a reason Nvidia took on the biggest part of the marketing campaign of Wukong, it's a game that's poised to push people to upgrade GPUs.

I think there are other games, especially on the pro, that look and run better. But it’s not worth bringing them up in this thread.

True, when the Ps5 Pro version drops to 46 and below, they've got a lot of room for improvement.

Perhaps, like AW2 and BG3 developers ended up saying, working on the Series S version will be beneficial to all console versions.

It's a bummer that some games like Wukong still run like shit on PS5 Pro. Elden Ring still doesn't run great on the system in anything but performance mode.

The game struggles to hit 60fps on the fucking Pro. They’re shit devs.

And it’s not UE5’s fault or China. Marvel Rivals runs on UE5, is from a Chinese dev, and runs amazing on the Pro.
Holy shit, do you ever argue in good faith? Or just kick the can down the road like a good boy?

A former PS dev can optimize better than some attention seeking hacks in China.
You argue like an ideologue. Just gaslighting after gaslighting.

The way some PC dudes act like their ability to pop a GUI or tweak ini-files entitles them to make deep technical diagnoses will never fail to make me laugh.

It absolutely epitomizes the old adage that "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing".

Did anyone post the latest from Jez?

"Previously, Microsoft suggested to us that Black Myth: Wukong was skipping Xbox due to some form of timed exclusivity deal in PlayStation, offering the following comments unprompted to Windows Central, as well as major outlets like Forbes and IGN. I also conferred with my own sources, who confirmed that Microsoft is all up internally operating under the idea that Black Myth: Wukong took some form of timed exclusivity deal with PlayStation — for engineering support, or something along those lines. The game has received no special marketing treatment from PlayStation to that end, and neither side has confirmed or debunked whether some form of exclusivity deal was or is in place."

So Microsoft is making a massive assumption here referencing deals with others that they "can't comment on". If so, they are simply implying something may be the case but they have no idea whether it is true or not which is why they don't come out and explicitly say "Game Science has an exclusivity deal with PlayStation".

Jez also says.....

"It would seem that even if there was at some point a period of timed exclusivity, the Xbox Series S parity clause is preventing the game from arriving on Microsoft's platform. Microsoft requires developers to launch games on both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in order to ship. The fact the Xbox Series S has RAM disparity with the PS5 and Xbox Series X has been blamed by various developers over the years for delays on Microsoft's platform. Famously, Baldur's Gate 3 was delayed on Xbox Series X|S until Microsoft allowed Larian to ship without couch co-op on the S version of the game."

Damn....we posted this at the exact same time. lol

Gotcha, but I don't see the connection between a Sony PC storefront and the fact that you have a Samsung TV. :)

What i menr by that is that sooner or later if sony realy releases more games sooner and on other platforms or on a pc store front, there might be apps coming to tv's where you can stream them without the need of pc or console.

Everyone already has the tv right?
And why i say samsung tv is that to my knoeledege gamepass is only on selected samsung tvs.

Let me attach some picjs

I think it was already leaked that this is where Sony is eventually heading. Sony is just taking there time with all of that.

I also have a recent model Samsung TV. One time I got curious and actually tried once of those because it was free over some time period. I forget which one it was now

Let me just say I cannot fathom someone actually playing through a game this way

Sony used to have a PSNow streaming smart TV and BR player app in the PS3 and 4 era. Discontinued it in 2017 to focus on “improving the experience for PS4/Windows.”

I can't wait to hear your explanation for how Internet lag and streaming bandwidth limitations will increase over time
Not sure what you mean.

There are plenty of games i stream on my ps5 pro.
Most games on ps premium i dont download to try out. I stream it. Goes up to 4k.
Image quality is great. I have zero input lag or at least i dont notice. Games are responsive.

Maybe where you live you have bad internet or infraatructure?

Cuz here its all fine. 1gig fibre optic close to the rockies, everything works.
Till i reach banff then it all falls apart lol.

He must have meant gamepass or some other non ps option as he was on a Samsung TV. Which is unfortunate because PS and GeForce now are far higher quality offerings.

So......long story short, not coming to Xbox anytime soon? I mean it's what, four months already now? It looked a bit hopeful when it got rated for Xbox like two months ago or so? But now with these words I don't know what to expect. Super annoying.
It is normal for PC to get late ports but now Xbox suffers from it as well. Not a good look. Xbox seems to be regressing they knew how important this shit was during the 360 days.

Maybe, just maybe, Game Science is a shit dev who let the attention from their tech demo go to their heads.
They made one of the best games of the year. If that is considered shit then what does that say about Xbox in-house studios?

Surprise, they couldn't fit the game into Series S. That's not the game's fault. No one blamed Squaresoft for not being able to fit FF7 into N64.

That's always the deflection with xbox diehards, it's never the xbox hardwares fault, always a shit dev, a bad game, etc. Then there's the steering of conversation to "it runs shit on PS5 pro" but games running at half the fps on Series S never get mentioned or even get defended. Who wants to bet when it comes to the potato Series S the conversation will be that it somehow "runs great" while being worse everywhere.

Maybe the developer realised that Wukong wasn't possible on Series S and so then went with Sony exclusivity? Both things could be true at the same time.

Wukong is badly optimized on PS5, because the main focus of this developer was clearly PC. It makes sense that they can't get it running on something like XSS.

Meanwhile, MS misses out on another popular game at day one. I'm sure we'll never see this XSS strategy again.
