Wukong director on the delay of Xbox port directly for the first time: need couple of years optimization experience to handle the shared 10 GB RAM

I've read that the game, perhaps unsurprisingly, runs like ass, even on powerful PCs. So it's not too far out there that the devs are just shit at optimization.
It doesn't, if you have a powerful pc.

Most games that run like shit on console can be bruteforced on pc, yes even some types of stutter can be mitigated a lot with a powerful hardware, not always, but enough to be a thing.

it's not Sony's job to comment on every crazy Microsoft shill on the internet.
But we're not talking about shills, we're talking about straight from Microsoft. You can't on the one hand claim definitively that Microsoft claimed that Wukong had an exclusivity deal and at the same time claim b.. b... b....ut the claim was vague!

You bet your ass that if either Microsoft or Sony make a factually wrong statement about an exclusivity deal, the other party will correct that.

"dont stop your enemy if they are committing a mistake" or whatever that quote was. Like I said, Sony benefits if people think there is an exclusive deal even if there is not.

"our policy is not to comment on rumors or speculation" is something literally every company says. Not just that, but an exclusivity deal is a contract between two parties, in this case Sony and the dev, Sony has NO obligation to discuss a deal between themselves and the dev because a third company (Microsoft) decided to wade into it. It's honestly none of MS' business.

I wouldn't bet that at all actually.

Wukong isn't the first not the last game that is exclusive to Playstation/PC. Quite the coinkidink that Microsoft chose to lie about this specific game huh.

One the one hand you have a platform holder that has implied the game has an exclusivity deal, on the other hand you have the developer that states that Series S is a bitch to optimize for. Both can be true at the same time. How does the Wukong director saying Series S is hard to optimize for any confirmation that there is no exclusivity deal?

Also, in previous instances Microsoft offered help optimizing. It's quiet on that front as well with this game.

The Microsoft lied camp isn't making sense whatsoever.

It's not a coincidence. Xbox goes out of their way to stop rumors about the series s being a PIA to develop for. Phil Spencer has lied about it as well when it came to BG3.

“So we're going to learn from this experience as well because we don't love that. But I don't think it's something that's a fatal flaw in the system. It's partners prioritising their time, us listening and being a good partner to them. And you see some amazing games doing great work across S and X. Diablo looks great, Starfield looks great. Forza looks great across both. And I want to make sure console gaming is accessible to more people, and we think the price point of the console is a pretty important part of that.

You notice in his quote he specifically says it's not a flaw in the system it's partners prioritizing their time. That's a flat out lie. The issue is with the Series S. He knows this and he's lying about it. Quite a coincidence that every time someone has issues with the Series S MS starts spreading BS on the internet about it.

When was the last time Sony had an exclusivity deal (that costs money) for a AAA game and did ZERO marketing of the game to associate it with the Playstation brand in consumer minds?

Makes zero sense to have an exclusivity deal and not market the game.

The other 85-90% comes from retail game and DLC purchases.
Which is exactly why I believe they aren't going to let the Steam store on their system. The console sales are already tanking and their next great idea is to provide an alternate store for people to purchase games that will allow their users to completely bypass the MS store and eat into their revenue even more?

Not sure. I am just enjoying all their great games on my Xbox.

I love reading willfully ignorant delusional arguments. It fills me with joy.

Lmao, I caught a permaban over on resetera for the mildest of criticism towards Jez. The worst part is most people in the thread agrees that Jez is a shill journalist, but you just outright heavily imply it. What a fucking joke. You have tiptoe around the subject.

Xbox fans deserved the current deplorable state of the platform, really. While PS users are overreacting, they still very vocal and vote with their wallets. Xbox peeps and influencers are just collecting excuses and trying to somehow defend a platform-holder that is just making one huge mistake after another.

Yep, they are 100% getting what they deserve. Zero sympathy.

I honestly find it pathetic how Xbox leadership thinly veiled blamed exclusive deals (without any receipts) and their weird Xbox influencers parrot it as well. If Sony had done any deals, they would have advertised it like they always do. Why would this one game that ultimately isn't that big of deal be any different?

Also the Devs have said more than once about hardware issues.

From what I've seen she talked about him on a video (not sure if it was a dedicated one or part of a longer livestream tho).
He wrote a long post crying about not winning GOTY and saying it was a waste of a trip. Unless she knows Chinese and has a Weibo account, it was real.

I've heard that post was taken out of context and the translation was horrible. Basically that a lot of stuff he was saying was in a joking context but the translation isn't giving you that. I don't know what's right or wrong but I sure as hell don't trust some AI translation.

You can take Microsoft's statement literally, that they cannot comment on deals. Now why they said it the way they did, it seems intentionally provacative, almost like they knew smoothbrain Xbox fanboys would interpret that to mean there is a secret marketing deal.

If I remember correctly, she talked about actually seeing him crying with her own eyes.

Series S :
  • RAM : 10GB GDDR6 at various speeds :
    • 8GB at 224GB/s - 128 bits bus allocated for GPU
    • 2GB at 56GB/s - 32 bits bus allocated for OS
  • SSD :
    • 512 GB SSD NVMe
    • 2.4 GB/s Read Bandwidth (Raw)
PS5 :
  • RAM : 16GB GDDR6 at 448GB/s - 256-bit bus :
    • 13,5 GB at 448GB/s - 256-bit bus for GPU
    • 2,5 GB at 448GB/s - 256-bit bus for OS
  • SSD :
    • 825GB SSD NVMe
    • 5.5 GB/s Read Bandwidth (Raw)

Easy to see why it's problematic. You cannot envision the same features in your game with half the ram at half the speed. For this, you have to lower your envisionned features to the lowest common denominator and start from it to see if it's running.

Baldur's Gate 3 could have run the local coop on Series S, it's a fact. You can run almost every game on every platform, to the point they are unrecognisable from the original => SNES games to Gameboy for example were a thing back in the day.

But to achieve this, they would have had to make it look like a potato game with really (and I mean REALLY) poor textures, and even delete assets (NPC, objects, you name it), to allow for the diversity of assets to load when 2 players are on two completely different places.
Or they could have considered the Series S from the beginning, while altering their vision and maybe cut the split screen feature from all versions (PC included) without talking about in the firstplace.

When you're facing that kind of problem, you have to make a decision :
  • Delete that mode in Series S but not on Series X and face a controversy in your own community, while lying about your brand message that Series S and Series X version would have identical features but still getting the hugely successfull game out on your console
  • Allow that potato mode on Series S which wouldn't favor AT ALL in comparison in regards to your competitor the PS5, and you likely lead to memes comparison that could do bigger brand damage

Really? Interesting. I've seen it from all parties.
Nah you're wrong never for any other brand have I seen people claiming a game would be the game of the gen and then claim it was never hyped or making song about how great their gamepass equivalent is and the cult of personality is above and beyond what we seen with Cerny/Myamoto or Fils-Aimé.
I mean look at a bad game released by Xbox like Crackdown 3 suddenly the discourse was but it is so fun ignoring every blatant flaw about the game, look at Concord, everybody is making fun about the game, barely anybody defends it except some lunatics, there's the discrepancy.

This discussion is really simple. Xbox is selling like shit and they have a hardware harder to optimize for (not impossible, but harder). And a lot of Xbox (especially S) owners rely on Gamepass, avoiding buying games.

With all that said, I imagine that is EASY to realize that Xbox will always be the last plataform in terms of preference for developers. Porting a game for Xbox means that it will take more resources than porting to any other platform, but with less profit.

And all of this is MS's fault. They keep devaluation the Xbox plataform month after month, by releasing their games on Playstation or saying that "anything is an Xbox".
