I think he has a mild point. Apple isBull/hyperbole, just because Apple will be launching a non gaming focused AR device that has nothing to do with the future of VR

I'm not talking about competing with other VR products though, I'm saying that this has no obvious purpose in anyone's life, at least not one that justifies that kind of price.Have you seen Apple? Ever? They never do something that no one else does. They just do what everyone else does, but better or in a simple, clean, and unified way.
Eye tracking and hand gestures? Video calls that actually show you and not a avatar?Virtually everything they just showed it doing, you can do on a Quest 2.
But if this device flops then VR will fail? Not a chanceI think he has a mild point. Apple isnotoriouswell known for refining the user experience, if they can't get it right who the fuck can.

I would bet the image quality on these will be in a class of their own as well. No more pixelated screendoor effects and a bigger FOV.
Virtually everything they just showed it doing, you can do on a Quest 2.
I don't think it will fail, per se, but having a company like Apple enter the market ensures its growth. But if this device flops then VR will fail? Not a chance
Oh, I agree with that, I also don't think Apple need to sell millions for it to be deemed a success.Exactly. This isn't for general consumers anymore than a Macbook Pro, Mac Studio, or Mac Pro are. They are for very specific groups of people.
Well... You can't really play Android apps very well on Quest 2. I mean the functionality exists but it's hard to do and not a good experience.Virtually everything they just showed it doing, you can do on a Quest 2.
laughing at the price or in pain trying to budget for it?$3500
its actually a good proce for what it does. And it’s Apple. They excel at selling expensive products. People will buyToast is right.....this product price burned it.
They said it will support Bluetooth keyboards. Pen probably isn't a thing that makes sense but yeah there are situations where the lack of controller is gonna be a big issue. The demo is rich in shock and awe tactics, but the lack of an input device like a keyboard or digital pen will kill it in the short term, for general work use.

As a guy once said, just two jobs!Price is just too much.
Well you can see the keyboard.Less than 20% of the population can touch type fluently. FYI.

to be fair it sounds like a made up stat. Who is going around getting statistics on this? That is absolutely baffling to me. I can't imagine using a computer and not being able to touch type.
Probably looking at $400 battery packs. As for the 2 hours of battery life. Can't we just get bigger battery packs? I think this looks great. Price is crazy tho but Apple fans are used to spending thousands for highend stuff.

"in 2023, the number of smartphone users in the world today is 6.92 Billion, which translates to 86.11% of the world’s population owning a smartphone. In total, the number of people that own a smart and feature phone is 7.33 Billion, making up 91.21% of the world’s population. (Source: https://www.bankmycell.com/blog/how-many-phones-are-in-the-world)"Yea, not sure myself. I would have imagined at least 50% of people can touch type, taking into account the folks who are too young to type, live in regions that have little to no tech/improverished nations, and elderly who never grew up on the tech.
You are probably right. What's fascinating here is that it is ABSOLUTELY a VR headset, probably one of the most capable on the market, but Apple is TERRIFIED to even speak the word VR. Like they're convinced the whole segment is toxic but they've sunk this much R&D into it, so let's pivot and pretend it's HoloLens.
On the one hand, they are focusing on things that the device will deliver, that won't depend on promises of games and metaverses that may not come, but on the other hand, "What if I had a computer and a big TV in my house" may not be the dream-like fantasy Apple thinks...
Well you can see the keyboard.
To be fair, I can't touch type on a phone. I have to actively look at what letters I am pressing. Something about its spacing is just a bit too hard for me to memorize."in 2023, the number of smartphone users in the world today is 6.92 Billion, which translates to 86.11% of the world’s population owning a smartphone. so 86% of the world owns a smartphone, but apparently only 20% of those smart phone owners can actually use them
Even with that, I still don't like it - it doesn't feels like it belongs there, in that environment.
Probably both.laughing at the price or in pain trying to budget for it?
I think we're moving in the right direction. Give it a few more years, this is as good as your getting for now:I was really hoping we'd see some minority report or Iron Man like AR hand movement/controls.
I would not buy that for 1000.laughing at the price or in pain trying to budget for it?
The displays in it alone are worth that, and in any other VR headset people would be cheering and in awe. Not saying this is worth 3.5k, but I do recognise this is some badass high quality stuff thats jammed into this thing.I would not buy that for 1000.
The tech is amazing. And I think there are a lot of cool things. 2 Hour battery life. So I can't watch LOTR without a recharge? Fuck that.
You can watch movies, browse the web, video chat.
