WWDC23 Apple Keynote - Code new worlds

Jesus Christ. It's literally just a fancy AR headset.

Not even VR.
What's fascinating here is that it is ABSOLUTELY a VR headset, probably one of the most capable on the market, but Apple is TERRIFIED to even speak the word VR. Like they're convinced the whole segment is toxic but they've sunk this much R&D into it, so let's pivot and pretend it's HoloLens.

On the one hand, they are focusing on things that the device will deliver, that won't depend on promises of games and metaverses that may not come, but on the other hand, "What if I had a computer and a big TV in my house" may not be the dream-like fantasy Apple thinks...

starts at 3499
Yikes.

Thats damn near $5000 in Canuck bucks.

That's just... no happening.

Good luck tying to sell a consumer device that's perfect for making 3D movies of your family, playing games and watching movies in a virtual theater for $3500.

This was a bizarre presentation. They went out of their way to show NOT ONE fucking thing I can't already do. Oh, I can watch movies and browse the web and run apps? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP.

The hardware looks cool, but Apple's vision for how people will actually use this is incredibly boring and I don't think all that compelling in day-to-day situations. Maybe cool for travel, but that's not enough for a device that costs as much as a used car.

As impressive as this is, I think it's so stupid to wear a helmet for that. Imagine attending a video conference with this shit on your face... jeez no.

Will consider using this and VR when they menage to make it smaller like glasses or something.

Have you seen Apple? Ever? They never do something that no one else does. They just do what everyone else does, but better or in a simple, clean, and unified way.

One is for an individual niche product the other is a entertainment device that all people can use.

$3500 is outrageously high.

I actually think its cool at shit..
and if they can bring the price down to 1k for a pleb edition eventually... that would be cool.

But I think at this price... Meta aint sweating.

And most people don't purchase 77" OLED's, I get it's got impressive tech, but as I told Eddie ages ago, this isnt really for general consumers, it certainly isn't for games (which is all I'm interested in), it's mainly for pro use (it's in the name)

As for the 2 hours of battery life. Can't we just get bigger battery packs? I think this looks great. Price is crazy tho but Apple fans are used to spending thousands for highend stuff.

Exactly. This isn't for general consumers anymore than a Macbook Pro, Mac Studio, or Mac Pro are. They are for very specific groups of people.
