WWE Raw drops to lowest TV rating in 18 years

Ratings have been declining ever since The Attitude era ended. They rose back up again for a short period of time, then dove again. Ratings have been on a steeper downward trend currently. But it also lines up with people getting rid of cable. Bad show + less people watching cable = ratings dive.

WWE makes a ton of money through advertising now. It's why they insist on keeping RAW 3 hours because they make a lot of money by showing so many commercials over those hours.

Actually it's more USA pays them a lot more money because a bad 3rd hour of RAW still increased their Network average.

Used to be dedicated viewer, but last 5 years I have become a Rumble to Mania watcher, like most things in the entertainment arena, originality is lacking, WWE recycle the same story lines over and over with new wrestlers....

Ratings tank, Triple H Heel champion to the rescue..

I was watching SD last night and wondering why the fuck they are pairing up Cena/Miz in another WM again? It irks me too much that AJ is just going to roll out and beat up Shane instead of putting him in a meaningful feud leading up to WM.

So Cena can propose to Nikki post match and get far more mainstream pub than any five star match will.

The Cena/Nikki vs Miz/Mayrse build has actually been pretty fantastic. Miz has been wonderful over the past year.

And yes a lot of people are not very excited for AJ vs Shane, considering AJ is the best worker in the company. But it will be better than Taker vs Shane at least?

Ah yeah forgot about that.

Apparently it's a "record low for a show that was not up against a major sports event and did not air on a holiday". Still significant, but not an overall low.

Still, this is down 350k viewers from same time last year, for a 10% drop, and down 860k viewers from the same time two years ago, for a 22% drop.

Plinko

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Have wwe numbers started to decline since the pg era then? I thought wrestling was a piece of shit since 2006 tbh.

PG has nothing to do with it. Garbage writing with no long-term builds has everything to do with it.

Yeah, I like Miz. Which is why I was hoping to see him be involved in a WWE title match rather than jobbing to Cena.

AJ vs. Shane should be better than Taker vs Shane since AJ can still take bumps and not lurch around the ring like he might keel over at any minute.

Jobbing to Ellsworth was dumb.

But WrestleMania has never been about five star matches. The 1st WM was full of celebs and even one in the main event. Part timers have been in main events of big shoes since before Vince McMahon knew he wasn't just another Carolina redneck .

I know, I know.

I guess I was just taking that rumor to heart, the one that said that WWE wanted Mania to top WK from earlier this year. They didn't even try. It's like Vince deliberately tried to make the show as bad as possible. This card SUCKS.

Jericho/Owens should be legit though, as well as Aries v Neville.

What craaaaaazy spot is Shane gonna do this time? I know you're all on the edge of your seats!!!1111

Poor AJ. :(

Surely there's some other old fuck they could feed him to, though. Why do we have to waste AJ on him?

Your choice isn't this or AJ in a five star match. Your choice is AJ in a main event angle with a McMahon that Vince cares about or in a pointless midcard match that goes shorter than you want.

Yeah but we'll still have to see AJ selling the absolute worst punches of anyone in the company or has been in the last 20 years.

At least the Ellsworth stuff was part of the AJ/Dean fued where Dean is credited for causing those loses and once Ambrose was no longer getting involved AJ killed him.

I legit wonder what they blame the rating on for this week.

It's always football, basketball, the election, someone's injured, no triple H... the fuck is their excuse today? 2 weeks before mania?
The down trend in ratings that ignores DVR viewership and that in WWE's case their DVR viewership rate is less than 10% as they also continue to pretend their social media nonsense matters.

They value AJ a lot. Even if the booking has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. They view him 100% as a top talent. They would not stick him in the midcard. If anything, I imagine they entertained the idea of making him the 3rd man in the WWE title match.

Hey blame the marks, including some on this very thread, who blew a load when Shane cmae back. I was telling folks you didnt want Shane back. After all, as supposedly horrible as Steph is, she'd never be in a main event level match with a top star like AJ. :)

"Social Media engagement was up 32% week over week. The most common Sports Entertainment terms were: Paige, Xavier, Southpaw Regional Wrestling"

I figured that Undertaker shit was going to be his last Rodeo. I really did. Go out one more time in a blaze of glory.

How wrong I was.

At least when Shane is in a match I can safely assume that the other guy is going over, usually after Shane takes some ludicrous bump. Can't say that about Steph.

If they want ratings to return, they need to go back to the formula that got them those ratings. If you aren't willing to appeal to the lowest common denominator of trailer trash and young teenagers with vile humor and cussing and hardcore wrestling and punk/metal music, you slowly lose that crowd and they go to UFC instead to scratch their barbarian itch

No sponsor on Earth would sponsor that

Unless your Roman Reigns. Then you get to spear her, in a meaningless WrestleMania main event that no one remembers just one year later.

If Steph is going to get physically invovled, why shouldn't it be the top face who's facing her husband on the main event of WM?
Why is Roman the only face to get back at her? And if you're like half the audience that does not view Roman as an accepted face, that spear just felt gross.

Oh yay you tackled a woman much smaller than you. What a face!

Boy, you aren't kidding. If my life had depended on naming it, I don't think I would have been able to remember who was in that main event, and I watched it live.

I may be a bit conspiratorial here, but I wonder if Orton's title push this time around is restitution for getting concussed and turned into a bloody mess by Brock.

AJ has really helped carry SmackDown this past year and the idea that Orton gets a main event opportunity instead of AJ doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense.

Its a nice slap in the face for your former champion who really carried everything for 9 months.

Wow, that is hard to remember.

I certainly remember the Seth Rollins MitB cash in on Brock and Reigns from 2015. Don't remember anything about 2016 Wrestlemania.

I think it is, honestly.

"I owe you one, pal" is one of vince's mottos.

WWE has been overpushing Randy Orton for well over a decade.

Fuckin Raw was so awful this week. I wound up just playing with my cat for 20 minutes instead of watching the end. What a depressingly awful show, and it's not gonna get better since Vince reportedly doesn't give a shit about ratings anymore now that he's got social media metrics.

Seen the idea floated around that Randy is basically getting the WM main event as a make good for letting Brock concuss him at Summerslam.

Being in a match with Shane is a bit shit but AJ will make it work and at least there will be cool memorable spots.

Personally more bummed Samoa Joe isnt even on the card. Plus no multi man ladder match for the first time in years.

He is the single most over hype under deliver guy I have ever seen. Over rated to an unreal degree.

His midcard days are still one of my favs but then again he had a pretty solid roster to work with. 2007- 2017 Orton has been a borefest for the most part, can only think of a handful of matches that were ok at best.

Why he was in the main event at WM30 and 33 boggles my fucking mind. Especially with todays roster.

Should have been Aj vs Nakamura. What a waste of a Wrestlemania.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
As lame as Orton is, and as bad as the product has been overall lately, this was hilarious

Orton can do some good work. I think for the most part the current Wyatt feud has been his best stuff in years.

But yeah. Dude has been mostly stale. Most of the time he is extremely boring and adds nothing to anything and only seems to ever be the guy in the main event when Cena needs a break and WWE doesnt want to try someone new.

I stopped watching a long time ago because I got really into MMA and NFL stuff but I took a look at the card and saw Randy Orton, The Undertaker, Goldberg, Brock Lesnar, Shane McMahon, Chris Jericho and John Cena. I'm 27 and its like I am 13 / 14 again haha. I also noticed an extreme lack of weird matches like Hell in a Cell, Ladder Matches, Iron Mans, Hardcore, etc.

Is it gonna be any good?

You can get a wwe network free month trial and watch WM

Their failure doesn't even make me happy anymore, because they're never changing a god damn thing, they could probably get consistent 2.0's and still have Roman's music closing the show.

Fucking thing sucks, I just want great wrestling again (
yeah i know about smackdown
)

Card looks really bad. There might be a couple good matches (HHH vs Seth Rollins, Neville vs Aries, maaaaaybe Jericho vs Owens) but it'll be majority shit.

I don't watch the weekly shows so the storylines are irrelevant to me. I just watch for the wrasslin.
