It's strange how they can get Psylocke so right and everyone else so completely wrong. These costumes seem worse than X1.
Leather beats hard plastic any fucking day of the week.

Olivia tweeted this, is it new?
First i'm seeing it.

So I'm guessing Singer was overruled here? With regards to the costume. She seems to be the only one who isn't in black leather.

Magneto has a lot of red in his costume, and the styling (outside of the uniforms) seems to have no qualms about being brighter and bolder. I think the black leather doesn't look terrible, and provides a bit of an aesthetic link to the original trilogy. Plus Psylocke's boob window is ridiculous.

Apocs team looks significantly cooler. Gonna be hard not to root for them.

no doubt. i'm excited about all of them together (except for angel) much moreso than that xmen team.

but the xmen has quicksilver and nightcrawler. if singer does what he did in dofp and x2 with those two then they'll steal it again. that shot of quicksilver in the trailer was laughable but i can't doubt it after what he did in the kitchen scene.

The exact reason is this:
Mystique is no longer going to be walking around naked any more, so singer figured he'd have another virtually nude woman walking around.

I am glad though. This picture looks great, I just wish Singer stuck closer to the x-men look as he is doing with this outfit.
It breaks my heart seeing all of the x-men wearing black leather for the 10th time as their x-men outfits.

This is his last x-men movie right? Hopefully we'll get someone else on it. The x-men franchise would be great with the Marvel treatment. Every year have an x-men movie about a certain group of characters. X-men is the shit and I wish they'd get treated better than one movie every so often where all of the cool mutants get side lined.

I'd take the armor but at least the originals gave everyone the slightest bit of color.
Wolverine = Orange
Storm = White
Kitty = Hot Pink

I kinda hope it is his last movie. Even though I like all of his X-Men movies, the movies are somewhat less comic(-ish) and the costumes look too bland, its basically the same in all of his movies.
I haven't seen Deadpool yet (the response is great so far), but I hope they'll combine these universes as it doesn't look like it's in the same universe (x-men and deadpool actors) just look at the different (and better) Colossus design/actor.

Yeah, that costume from the Deadpool movie looks way better than what Singer gives us. Why is he so obsessed with unified boring black costumes? At least let them put those people put some personal touch on those costumes, some color, details - something.

Team Apocalypse look so much better.

Also, lol at Cyclops missing there. Singer really must hate the character.
And it seems Jubilee is also missing from the team picture. Poor Cyclops, being leveled with Jubilee :(

Singer is still scared of making a comic book movie.

That isn't even Mystique. That's Jennifer Lawrence through and through. I like Lawrence though.

Jubilee is right there in the middle.

Which is weird because the future scenes from Days of the Future Past had this cool comic book atmosphere, with characters looking uniquely (they still had dark-colored uniforms, but at least each character looked differently) and great action scenes.

Jubilee is right there in the middle.

That's what I thought too at first, but it seems that's not Jubilee - that girl is just a fan, the owner of the Instagram account the photo was published on.

Kinberg confirmed the other day that the new future ending in DOFP is the ultimate ending for those characters.

Which I guess means Xavier, Scott, Jean, Hank, and Storm will come out of this just fine!

(though I guess also raises the possibility of killing Magneto or Mystique...)

So X3 is retconned to hell and back.

I'm ok with this.

I'll admit I'm disappointed by the costumes as well. Psylocke and Magneto both look good, but I was hoping - given that it's the 80's and our heroes are teenagers - that we'd finally have an excuse to inject some color and vibrancy into their costumes :/

Urgh, the costumes are horrible. Psylocke's is the only one that seems to take a considerable length in sticking somewhat close to the Jim Lee version. This is supposed to be the 1980s, big and bright colors and where strange clothing was the norm. I'm kinda thinking some people in charge(Singer and maybe some of the producers) are too afraid to show the 80s for what it was and are going to try to offer a tamer version of that decade so they don't scare away the kiddies that can't relate to 80s fashion. Meh.

That and Jean should've been permed up. SOMEONE should've been permed up. The hair, so far, looks far more modern hipster than 80s-true. I said before that Jubilee probably HAD the most 80s-close hair back in another thread, but she doesn't even seem to be part of the main team(and might be in there for brief sequence). How hard is it to look online, on Youtube(go scrolling through old 80s videos) or old catalogs/hair style scans(there's plenty) to try and get the look right?

Plus Psylocke's boob window is ridiculous.
Especially considering how it seems to be based off her iconic look, and she never had a boob window:

Not feeling the boring all black costumes. I saw Negasonic Teenage Warhead in Deadpool and wanted something like that.
Yeah, it's pretty much true to the classic X-Men costume. All that's missing is yellow gloves(and boots) and the "X" buckle belt, but hell, that doesn't look bad on screen. It's something that Singer SHOULDN'T be hesitant in doing. They days of "big and bold" super hero costumes not being able to be "done" in movies has past. Marvel Studios trampled the shit out of that perception, and it looks like DC plans on crushing it further into the ground. That kinda way of thinking was good for the early 00s, but we've excelled PAST that, thank goodness. Embrace the change!!!

Olivia says she actually fought to make her costume purple. It was originally just black, but she wanted it to look like her comic book version.

My only hope is that if the next movie is set in the 90's, we get full on Jim Lee 90's X-Men outfits. That would be so fucking cool.

lets be honest,
getting these costumes to look somewhat good irl is a huge pain in the ass and takes so much time, effort and money to get right.
We act like its perfect but we get stuff like Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch(makes sense but we definitely wouldn't see her classic in the MCU)
Captain America wearing pajamas in Avengers
Falcon wearing black armor and camo with limited red highlights
Hawkeye's traditional costume has zero chance of ever showing up
Whatever the fuck Green Lantern's CG costume designer was thinking
And we had a perfect Spiderman suit that they dropped in the reboot and decided to make Spiderman look like a damn basketball.

X-Men just plays it 100% safe from day1 and absolutely won't stray from that.
yeah Wolverine's costume is going to be hard as hell to make decent in real life,
but why the hell do they not even make attempt with others. How freaking hard would Cyclops be?

Only way I ever expect to see comic Wolverine is Deadpool 2 for 2 seconds with Deadpool saying how ridiculous he looks.

The problem with X-Men costumes isn't that they aren't true to the comic books/cartoon. It's that they are generic and safe as fuck: black leather/spandex and armor. Is it practical? Maybe. Is it boring? Yes!

X-Men Evolution, for example, didn't have costumes true to the comic books, and they were still mostly black spandex (leather) with armors elements, but each character had some colorful unique accent that let him or her stand out.

I really don't think that the X-Men's classic yellow-and-blue uniforms would translate well to screen. I see the costume from Deadpool posted as an example of its apparent success, but I don't think that looks especially good - the yellow looks redundant and superfluous, and the costume as a whole looks underdesigned.

Plus, I think some in this thread greatly overestimate Singer's influence in the film's marketing (regarding the lack of Cyclops in the picture posted earlier).

Edit: I see that I'd forgotten about the First Class uniforms. They looked good, but they definitely feel less adult than the black uniforms.

Wolverine's Evolution costume is the only time I have loved a wolverine costume.

The yellow and blue looked fine in First Class. I personally don't want Singer at the helm of these movies - he's done 3 good ones but it feels like he's running out of ideas.

I thought one of the main points of DOFP was to reboot the universe so you can do whatever you want with it, not put it on a course that leads to the original trilogy.

Apocalypse and the horsemen all look fine to me though.

Please stop making Mystique such an integral character, I don't buy JLaw as her at all.

Man it's like this before every Singer releases every X-Men film. Do you guys ever get sick of complaining about something you know isn't going to change with him at the helm?

The dude makes good X-Men films. Try to look past the lack of stupid Vaughn-style Magneto helmets and just have a good time.

How else can they claim the movie a disaster and hope the rights go back to marvel without complaining about costumes and J-Law?

First Class will forever have the superior X-Men movie suits.
(Until Deadpool drops next week)
+1 for Blue and Yellow
+1 for Blue Mystique
+1 for no black leather

that scene was indeed cool, but Magneto's escape from X2 >>> any Magneto scene ever

and I say it as a long time Singer hater
