X-Men Apocalypse Review Thread

Current marvel comics and the fox X-Men cinematic universe have basically killed the love of X-Men that I had in my childhood.

This movie look like crap from day one unfortunately

One thing Singer has talked up before is that Apocalypse isn't just the ending of this prequel/sidequel trilogy, but also the conclusion to a six film saga. I don't think I've read any review that says that mentions this kind of full circle finality to it, so I wonder if that ended up getting lost along the way of making the movie. As is, DOFP feels like a pretty good conclusion to the Singer X-Men saga.

In a few years, succeed or fail, they will make CGI X-Men movies and bring back the voice cast of the 90s show. It's worth it for Cathal Dodd alone!

They can call the series X-Men 92 Forever. Also, since it's been like 20+ years, they can get rid of some of the restrictions that kids' TV had.

They can finally do the storyline where Psylocke turns Asian for some reason.

Fox needs to just make a X-Force movie with Wolverine, Deadpool, Colossus, Psylocke, and Angel. I think it would do pretty well if executed correctly.

Honestly, despite being an enormous X-men fan, I'm a bigger fan of the MCU and I think Marvel regaining the rights would do more harm than good. Mutants have too many historical ties to be believably weaved back into the MCU proper. Any attempt to do so would feel so forced, it'd drive the whole universe down.

Just give them back fantastic 4, ya limey bastards

I don't think Marvel even wants them. The whole mutant gene fuckery fucks up their whole MCU anyway.

X-Men is still the MVP of comic book adaptations. Nothing has come close to capturing these goosebump moments.

Huh? The winter soldier had Batroc the Leaper and he is an obscure character in comics

Batroc and Crossbones were manhandled way too easily.

Imagine if Disney and Marvel made DC movies...I shudder the treatment they'd give to Deathstroke. They would probably have Batman take him out with 1 punch or something.

The corner they've written themselves into is that there's nearly a 35 year gap in the movies between Angel/Psylocke and Deadpool/Colossus. And then Wolverine can be at any point, unless their solution to getting around Jackman's departure isn't to recast Logan but replace him altogether with someone like X-23 in the movie next year. In which case, that's a third, further-down-the-road time period to reconcile.

Or maybe they'll do a Legends of Tomorrow type setup, with Cable traveling through time to collect the members of his team.

Wolverine sacrificing himself for Rogue was fuckawesome. The wounds opening up scared the crap out of my younger self for about 5 minutes. I almost wish they had continued developing Logan and Rogue's relationship.

Screw Ms. Marvel, Rogue was better with her powers

Marvel getting the X-Men franchise back in the next decade or two is a fantasy.

How long does Fox have between films before the license reverts to Disney? Also, do they have to produce films with X-Men in the title or can they just stick the characters in a Deadpool or other spinoff film and have that count as active use? It seems between that and a brief hiatus between a full reboot, they have a bunch of options.

Ya know what couldn't hurt? Bringing back Magneto's theme music from First Class. Why in the world wasn't that used again? It's flat out amazing.

No, it can't, because Fox isn't in anywhere near the same position Sony was as a studio. You can't remove the context of why Sony was even considering the option.

This isn't fantasy football. You can't just drop and pick up whole intellectual properties off the waiver wire Thursday afternoon before 6pm.
Watch me, Bobby! I'm gonna leak all the things, then we'll see what Fox has to say.

A the very least, he had actual personality, unlike the grunting imbecile we had in the first film.

X-Men 1 also released at a time when Marvel thought that film viewers would actually start reading comics so that shitty hobo Sabertooth look started to be incorporated into the comic version. Toad suffered a similar fate, but no one really cared about toad.

Even IF marvel were to get x men back, how would they incorporate them in the univers?

Make the Xavier Institute the Hogwarts of the MCU. Xavier, Wolverine, Magneto and Mystique as professors, Cyclops and Jean as POV characters leading a teen team. Trask/Sentinels/Weapon X as the villains, possibly with some Hydra ties, and the movie ends with Magneto and Mystique taking some students and Weapon X test subjects and leaving the school to become the Brotherhood.

They're part of the long game, like Spidey. Young characters who will eventually grow up to become the core of the next chapter of the MCU.

Mutants could arise after Phase 3 as a result of whatever energies are unleashed after the Avengers' fight with Thanos.

That or they go Ultimate Marvel route where mutants
are the results of experiments by SHIELD or something (been a while since I read the shitstain that was Ultimatum
but I doubt they'll do that.

These reviews sound nothing like his prior xmen movies. I hate that he felt he had to adapt to the current landscape because it sounds like he kind of fell flat doing so
Adapt to the current landscape?

Sounds more like Singer is stuck in the past. Unless you mean ditching the black leather. Lol

Scarlet Witch is the key to tie the universes together, but I doubt Fox will ever give the license back. And please, Marvel will put Mystique in the trash with only one line before Hulk smashes her.

Somebody at Fox call Feige and make a Spider-man style deal.

I guaran-fucking-tee you that Feige would produce a proper fucking X-Men movie with a proper fucking X-Men lineup and a proper fucking cast and proper fucking costumes and a proper fucking storyline.

Then I can die a happy man.

What the heck are you talking about, Winter Soldier was nigh unstoppable in that movie.
