Xbox Game Pass has been absolutely incredible in 2025

Resident Crybaby
We're less than 4 months into the year, and so far we've gotten the following day 1 games released:

  • Ninja Gaiden 2 Black
  • Avowed
  • Atomfall
  • Sniper Elite: Resistance
  • South of Midnight
  • Blue Prince
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

On top of that, the following day 1 games have already been announced for 2025:
  • DOOM: The Dark Ages
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4
  • Ninja Gaiden 4
  • Towerborne
  • The Outer Worlds 2
  • FBC: Firebreak

Not to mention catalog releases that have been added this year, like:
  • Diablo
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Madden NFL 25
  • Balatro
  • Mullet Madjack
  • Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls
  • Borderlands 3
  • GTA 5

Freaking ridiculous. I paid for 3 years worth in October of 2022, and I'm almost certainly going to buy another chunk of 3 years when it expires later this year. The value is absurd.

It is incredible.

Honestly, I feel like I'm robbing Microsoft and paying too little. All those bangers would cost me far, far more than a yearly GP sub.

Their Game Pass output has been damn good. As has been their first party.

Yes it's an incredible renting service indeed. BUT if you want to own your games and not rent them .. well then it's not so good.
Well Duh...We're not talking about the merits of ownership vs rental..We're simply talking about the value that gamepass provides to the gamer for the cost versus how many games you get to play..I mean that is the point right. Playing the games.

Completely agree.

Credit where it's due because it's most definitely had periods of being lacklustre the last few years.

Glad to see something going right for Xbox here.

Meanwhile the PS+ Extra gets Battlefield 1.

Thanks for letting us know. As one of the last who pay for that subscription its nice to hear from the lesser well off people who dont just but their games.

Real answer: who cares/ has asked? These threads every few months Are boring and mundane

It has been an amazing year and there is no signs of it slowing down. People here really dump on Xbox but honestly I have been pretty happy with it as my primary gaming platform since I switched over during the PS4 era due to backwards compatibility. Also cross buy and for those that have ultimate it has great perks for PC players as well.

I have a PS5 but rarely use it as Sony's core studio games have not interested me in the last few years with a few exceptions such as Stellar Blade and the Demon Souls remake.

It's why I'm selling my PS5 honestly and using that money to fund the switch 2. I have a gaming PC and Series S and X and the value I get with game pass is fucking retarded good. Sad to say but it's true, I didn't expect to main Xbox this gen but with Sonys rather shit plus service, price increases and abysmal first party games in the last year or so I just can't be bothered most days to turn on the damn system. Hell my Steamdeck gets more ❤️.

With Sony also releasing anything big on PC I don't feel I'm at risk of missing out.

There's been too much for me to keep up with. What a terrible first world problem.

That is actually a hell of a lineup. I just wish they would fix their abysmal PC app.
I've only been pc gaming for about a year now but what's the actual reason people say this?
I use it constantly and have had an issue once where I needed to redownload COD. Otherwise it works fine.

Might be a bit presumptuous to add so early but I reckon this year's CoD will also be a shoe-in to release on GP.

What do you mean ? You own the games as much as you own the movies on netflix. Ofc you have a blast playing new games for about 10 eur/usd per month. But you will be fucked when they leave the service.

You can get upto a 20% discount on buying games that are on the service or before they leave. It's beneficial for those who liked something and wanted to keep it permanently even if it's leaving the service.

Yes yes i know, it's a good service. Don't forget i come from 10 years of playstation slavery. I must be a little butthurt here..

They will probably have to.

Going by Spencer, GP has "tens of millions of hours of playtime each month".
This means <100M hours.

Last safe guesstimate was like ~30M subs?
That would mean that at best, on average, each subscriber spends a whopping 3.3 hours on playtime each month.

This doesn't sound realistic at all. So likely there has been quite a drop in subs.

Edit:

Just checked, the statement was about cloud gaming, so I might be way off here.

The value of Gamepass this year is incredible. Really happy to see Xbox finally get it together. Only took 11 years.

I honestly don't understand how someone wouldn't sub to Gamepass.

Slightly off topic, but what I think is insane is that Microsoft has a shot at being publisher of the year — on freaking PS5.

I don't think that's crazy at all. They are one of the biggest third party publishers in the world.

GP has always been an amazing value IMO. Not to surprised by this. Unfortunately it wont do anything for them because no one wants GP other than people in the Xbox ecosystem. PC users barely even want to use it.
