Xbox Game Pass has been absolutely incredible in 2025

Hey, cool. I was worried that you wouldn't announce your platform of choice. Thank you for the update, and for the totally original, never before heard, scorching hot takes.

You own everything you pay for. We're talking about a subscription service here. Keep up?
No shit Sherlock. What do you think I'm talking about? People getting excited over a sub service where you own nothing and keep paying to rent games. I'm not a fan of that model. Too hard for you to understand what I'm saying?

And yes, I own everything I pay for. My house. My car. My phone. My games. My films. My music. I own it ALL.

Honest question: Do you think you can see a GamePass thread without showing up to go "you'll own nothing and be happy"?

I know you thought it was all crashing and burning a year ago, but it's great these days.

You do you. I'm not telling anyone what to do. It is my (strong) opinion and I'm sticking with it. I work hard for my money and to piss it up against the wall to line microsofts coffers whilst they give us absolutely nothing to own but borrow is a disgrace. But again, do whatever makes you happy.

Thanks for letting us know. As one of the last who pay for that subscription its nice to hear from the lesser well off people who dont just but their games.

Real answer: who cares/ has asked? These threads every few months Are boring and mundane
Buying games is for losers.

My 360/PS3
So you can mod all of them at will, copy, distribute, make public reprodutions and you don't have a single game that has multiplayer that you paid for but can't play or have to rent the online play!!! Good for you.

Don't you know you can buy every game that is on game pass??

Hope you don't buy digital games, because you still don't own shit 😂

What are they?

Oblivion
Expedition 33
Doom: The Dark Ages

Same reason some buy for $60/$70 and sell for a little less after they finish the game.

I used to do that, just outright renting what I want to play and opting to buy it later is much more efficient for me.

I'd rather have the option to play more games with a cheaper annual sub than buy one for $70, beat it in a week then try to sell it for as high as I can, often end up selling it at $15 or $20 less than I bought it for.

Such a weird take. Do you not understand GP subscribers are free to buy games/DLC and at a decent discount at any time, often a cheap upgrade to a deluxe version too? We can enjoy the game day one as part of our sub then as time passes game prices goes down, DLC gets released and we get bundles/discount offers later on to own/keep said game even if we cancel our GP sub.

Your argument is moot.

Yup, game pass is great. I game way more because of it. Got me back into PC gaming which is awesome.

I gotta admit, cloud works good enough and is super convenient. I go a friends house and we just play on their tv. Gaming on all tv's in my house or playing on my laptop on a trip works well for me.

Would have to go way up in price before I would consider canceling it.

Gaming time has gone down quite a bit for me in the last calendar year because of work, buying a new house, and having a kid on the way but Stalker 2 and Indiana Jones through GP have reinvigorated my enjoyment for gaming. Really looking forward to Doom in May.

Pretty impressed with GP right now.

So then why are Xbox console gamers, who make up a large majority of gamepass subscribers, not buying games for Xbox consoles?

Yeah, looks terrible.../S.
  • 2022: Gaming revenue for Microsoft's Xbox division was $16.23 billion USD.
  • 2023: Revenue slightly declined to $15.47 billion USD, but it was still the second-best fiscal year for Xbox.
  • 2024: Gaming revenue dropped further to $15.47 billion USD, reflecting challenges like reduced hardware sales.

We're less than 4 months into the year, and so far we've gotten the following day 1 games released:

  • Ninja Gaiden 2 Black
  • Avowed
  • Atomfall
  • Sniper Elite: Resistance
  • South of Midnight
  • Blue Prince
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

On top of that, the following day 1 games have already been announced for 2025:
  • DOOM: The Dark Ages
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4
  • Ninja Gaiden 4
  • Towerborne
  • The Outer Worlds 2
  • FBC: Firebreak

Not to mention catalog releases that have been added this year, like:
  • Diablo
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Madden NFL 25
  • Balatro
  • Mullet Madjack
  • Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls
  • Borderlands 3
  • GTA 5

Freaking ridiculous. I paid for 3 years worth in October of 2022, and I'm almost certainly going to buy another chunk of 3 years when it expires later this year. The value is absurd.
Spot on. I've just added 2 years thanks to CD Keys easter offers

No need if they're for as long as they're on Gamepass. Most people I know with Game Pass buy plenty of games that are not on Game Pass, that's how it works.

It's pathetic to see SONY fans look to bash Xbox when even they know deep down, it's a great deal for a gamer

I got a notification on my LG TV that Xbox app and GamePass is available.

I don't have good enough internet to try it, but it's nice to have it from the TV

Wuchang is also a day 1 GP game when it launches. Another chinese developed poised to break out.

And if god is real then whenever Silksong releases, that's also a day 1 game.

"You know what, I think it was a life well lived. I posted a lot of emojis on Neogaf when someone mentioned a subscription service I don't like. I dedicated my life to that and I'm glad."

Can you still do that?
I've done the Xbox Live Gold stack, then the EA Play stack. What's left to do? My final cheap stack ends at the end of the year. I'm getting worried that I might need to start paying the ridiculous standard price after that.

Buying every game is so yesterday.

Been there, done that, for many years.

All that happens is you end up with boxes and boxes of games you never get around to replaying (or put on once in a while for 10 minutes for nostalgia's sake), slowly depreciating in value until they are practically worthless.

If you went down the route of selling them to fund others, you were effectively mirroring the renting model.

I've personally found GamePass very liberating, and I embrace it. I reckon in all the years I've been using it, I've only been disappointed once or twice in wanting to replay a game only to find it is no longer available.

I'm an Xbox and Nintendo gamer. Always have been. Saddened by the path that Microsoft went with gamepass. I still own a series x and regularly buy games for it. Trying to show Microsoft that Xbox consoles are viable and worth maintaining in the light of their bullshit advertising that everything is an Xbox… except for their own fucking consoles.

The GamePass option does not block you from buying games and playing them the way you want.

It does make me ponder( albeit briefly) what this generation would have looked like for Xbox if what they've released since last year till now( and what's on the horizon) came out between 2021 and 2023. Like no doubt they'd still be getting 'out-consoled' by PlayStation but I wonder if they'd have sold more Xboxes and the brand wouldn't have this 'dead man walking' narrative swirling around it. Or maybe just going third party was an inevitability of the ABK acquisition no matter what they did on the software quality/release cadence front.
