Xbox Game Pass has been absolutely incredible in 2025

It seems like even our JP bros are happy with all the game releases coming this year to Game Pass.

Salty take?

Salty take.

The GamePass option does not block you from buying games and playing them the way you want.
Seems to be that way though for MANY Xbox console owners though. No matterf which way you slice it, Gamepass has been a negative for Xbox. They're now 3rd party cause on their own console they are eating up sales cause they've trained their lapdogs to NOT purchase games!

Tell me all you want that gamepass doesn't stop you from buying games- of course that's a fact but again, it doesn't mean that people will do it! You can still buy blu ray films even though those films are on streaming/rental services...

It's truly a great year so far, but when my 3 year membership ends in november, I might consider short term subscriptions since they killed cheap long term subs. If many people like me start thinking this way, I'm not sure how sustainable this model will be. I hope you guys continue to support this service :messenger_grinning_sweat:

This year is incredible. 2024 was disappointing though up until basically the last 2 months.

BS.
Gamepass hasn't stopped Xbox owners from buying games, any more than Steam sales and cheap keys have devalued the Steam storefront.

Xbox gamers aren't buying games on GamePass in large quantities, and it's probably ensured fewer indies get sold since many associate them
With GP or Plus. But sales of tentpole third party games aren't impacted at all. Nobody's staying off GTA 6 because 'Gamepass trained him'. Xbox owners will buy NBA 2K. They'll buy FC26. They'll buy the next Battlefield and other top titles.

Not sure why you keep haunting GP threads after telling everyone it isn't for you.

You're not wrong, lol. Our guy is in almost every game pass thread with the same rhetoric.

At a point you gotta ask why even spend so much time discussing something one doesn't like or wants to join.

Going third party has changed things. Xbox gamepass and their games have been great.
I actually think this is not directly related.
What HAS changed, is that Microsoft Gaming is not giving out free lunches anymore. If your game doesn't sell then you are out the door. For decades the studios just did nothing because no one is threatening their jobs. Now people are actually being fired for once and now it is either deliver or die, you know, like any other normal studio. No more warchest talk.

I'm an Xbox and Nintendo gamer. Always have been. Saddened by the path that Microsoft went with gamepass. I still own a series x and regularly buy games for it. Trying to show Microsoft that Xbox consoles are viable and worth maintaining in the light of their bullshit advertising that everything is an Xbox… except for their own fucking consoles.

Xbox PR sucks and I don't like seeing Xbox games on rival consoles , but I'm over that now. Xbox Series X is the best console available and Game Pass is the best value deal in gaming IMO

Yeah its absolutely amazing tbh, it will begin to rival steam soon, but Ill be honest Im still getting everything on steam.
I dont like the idea that in 2 months game pass can pull games and raise prices, both happen regularly.

Some missing things as well like easy mod support and alot of the time the games are missing weird features like DLSS.

I've been subbed for PC since it was released in my country a few years ago and although I don't play that much anymore I still find it very convenient.

It's also nice that the people I play with online occasionally also have it so we always have something to play together.

For example I like guilty gear but I find them a bit expensensive on release and I rather wait for the redux versions so playing it on gp allowed me to try it out without fully committing.

That does nothing to disprove what I said. The standouts on that list are STALKER 2, Black Ops 6, and Indiana Jones. All 3 were released in the last 2 months of the year as I said.

There's no way Game Pass would have been worth $23 CAD/mo. to me the first 10 months of the year. Is $230 a good deal for the games included in those 10 months? Not even close for me.

RE 2 and 3 are super old and dirt cheap lol. Most of the other games on that list are more niche and hit or miss in terms of whether or not people will be interested.

I've written this a couple of times - you can just pulse your subscription.

I love owning games - to a fault - my steam backlog is so insane that I'll never play everything I want to play.

Game Pass presents such a deal that even people who only want to own games should consider subbing - on release games are asking 70 bucks? six months later they routinely go on sale for 30-35?

say there are five to six games you want to try out - some you wont like, some you will want to own - feast on a sub for a month or two - remove the games that you wont re-play, remove the ones don't like and BUY the others after they drop in price -

maybe I'm not understanding the people who are hard advocating for just buying games?
- even for people who just want to own games I'd argue they would save money by legally playing a ton of new games on a service then selectively choosing what to pay for

Half of the fun of Oblivion will be smoking a bong 7 years from now and firing up my save then kicking the shit out of an orc for no reason

Game like that is useless on a sub service imo

I get that - kinda - maybe for me not 50% of the fun though - I sort of was hoping that my original save would allow me to play the toon I played on release as I am super excited for shivering isles

I will buy this game on steam in time - with skyrim I was able to hex edit my save and transfer my toon to play on PC from xbox - given the time between my initial play through I ended up starting a new character when I picked up skyrim and I had another fun run.

similarly CP77 - my original play through on release was fun on PC - I had to option to play that toon for the DLC - but trying to remember my perks an the changes had me re-roll and holy shit did I have a good time playing through from scratch again.

for me - every time I return to a game more than 5 years with an old save - its not to play - its to wax nostalgic

the only negative I have about oblivion so far is that I know what my toon will be able to do - oh I can cheese and power level - but its a great game and I'm willing to sink the time into it to relive the game rather than just log in and win

- I do get your point though - games that rock will always rock - even just booting up and running around old environments does good things to my brain.
