Xbox Game Pass is delivering more than ever, but will gamers notice?

Only if they can keep delivering releases throughout a year, and have more to come.

I'd also still like a better PC app, and for them to dump some of their patching requirements that put updates behind the Steam versions of the same games.

Praising a subscription service is cringey and pathetic honestly. All these people getting on there hands and knees bowing to microsoft for giving them games on a service they pay for is lmaoooooooo. Holy moly.

There is too much anti gamepass posting. Also, too many gushing (cringy) hype threads.
Are both sides getting paid to promote and demote the service?
Almost 8 years I've played games from the service. 8 years of reading how much people hate that i am using it.

Yeah it's toxic because of fanboys. Maybe it'll go away once Xbox is truly gone but I doubt it.

As for myself I'll keep using it for as long as I can get it cheap. I see no downsides, I use it like having demos, try day 1 and the games I like I can buy later on Steam when they're lower price.

This year has been particularly great. So far I've played Ninja Gaiden, Avowed, Diablo 4, Oblivion Remaster. And I plan to play Expedition 33, DOOM Dark Ages.
That's 6 games. With the stacking I pay the equivalent of 1 game per year.

As a trophy hunter I don't. I know Clair obscure is for free on gamepass, but I'd rather buy it on PS, earn the platinum and resell it. Will probably be cheaper than gamepass as well.

Oh jizz, it would be interesting to see if MS shares stats like, I dunno how profitable the Xbox division actually is, or how much actual sales/revenue their incredible release of irrelevant games made. it's a business after all and as a business it's kind of important to know if it's actually sustainable/viable

the most expensive ongoing experiment in gaming today...

re-subbed for a month. didn't like clair obscur or avowed. enjoying still wakes the deep. value's strictly subjective...

Yeah it's a great service. Outside of improving the PC app a bit I'm not sure what they can do to get more people on board. They've had two huge, high profile games release day 1 on the service in recent months (Black Ops 6 & Oblivion Remastered) so I don't know what else they can do to convince more people to sign up.

They really need to expand the console user base but that's obviously not going well this generation (in fact it's gone backwards since last gen).

I can't believe he mentioned the very opaque Xbox quarterly earnings without any real figure as a gauge for how it is doing.

They've got an uphill battle trying to convince millions of gamers that are not a fan of the platform to take notice.

This is apple vs android. Sony vs Ms. Man city vs man utd. It doesn't matter how good the service is. Those with an allegiance to a brand will not take notice, and unfortunately for Microsoft the brand with the biggest pull in console gaming isn't theirs.

With Nintendo pushing USD$90 for games, services like Game Pass look better and better. Microsoft doesn't have to do much other than not jack up the prices - economics will attract anyone who's interested.

It will become more enticing if the trend of games keep going up (Mario Kart World $80-$90)

However, I do not want the industry to get to a point where subscription services are dominant.

A lot of gamers still prefer buying/owning their games and don't have the time to play every new release or hundreds of games.

The stupidest most anticonsumer thing ever done in gaming, like netflix did for shows.
(EDIT) After Nintendo's 90$ games.

It can sound good at first, then you realize that when you want to play games you actually want you'll need 3 different subscriptions, then one day the game is not in the list, then you realize you played 4 games to completion in a year that you probably could have bought cheaper for the entire year of subscription value.
Thank god gamers just didn't take the bait, I wouldn't like to see a future where this shit and xbox actually won.

The premice was interesting, but the conclusion is not.

If Microsoft cannot even convince PC players on Windows to subscribe to its service, it has nothing to do with brand loyalty

Eh? Football clubs are not a service. A person decides to support a football team from an early age and than stick with that team forever, regardless how the team performs.

In England and most of the world, supporting a football club is a lifelong, even more so than marriage. Anyone who decides to change clubs in adulthood is committing heresy!

Anyway, on topic. Yes, Microsoft is killing it with GP at the moment. However, subscription services are not for everyone. Some people only play a few games a year, so a sub isn't right fot them. Others prefer to buy their games and build collections.

Each to their own.

If only Gamepass was backed by a multi-billion dollar corporation with almost limitless resources, people would see that it's the best deal in gaming.

Great points about the football team. I do think that businesses will lose customers if they mess up enough but you will always have those hardcore fans of a platform but it is not the same as football. Great points.

Just cancelled after 3 years stacked cheap, hardly used it.

I use it a lot. The last few years have been pretty bonkers for me. Playing gems like lies of p and many more.

I think its a great service but I can completely understand how it doesn't resonate with some people who like to buy a game or play 1 or 2 titles a year outside of a gaas title or something.

Been a multi-subscriber for a long time. Bought plenty of games, expansions and micro transactions through family gamertags. Played far more solo and with family games/genres as part of GP. Also got back into PC gaming too after leaving it decades ago for console only. Now both again, son is too.

Only gripe is family GP not available in Australia yet. Brilliant service. Banger of a GP year.

What exactly is Gamepass delivering? These games are available almost everywhere! Why the constant need to try make this rental service a thing? Fuck me it's insane. Gamers have spoken loud and clear- they want to buy and not rent.

I think it's currently a good deal, but I think in the long run this model would be terrible for gaming, so I choose not to support it. I suspect the deal would soon become less good if they succeeded in moving most people and devs to the subscription model.

Yeah, It's such a shame that gamers didn't blindly embrace gamepass. We had the opportunity to turn gaming into a netflix-like content churning industry. We really missed a golden opportunity there.

As a bonus Yves Guillemot would have been remembered as the saviour of gaming with his prophetic statements. ❤️

I haven't a XSX and nor a good gaming PC.
So no, i will not really notice or it has no effect on me.
MS should lower the price of the XSX to bring me to buy their console or to try even harder to bring game pass on PS5.
That Sony is ok with such services is proven by EA Play and Ubisoft+.

I think it programmed the Xbox User who used to own a 360, Xbone to not buy games anymore. And it is in different levels. Like MS specialty games like Halo will never be able to be a big hit again. But something from Bethesda and Activision still has multi-platform recognition.

Nobody cares that you're using it.

That's kind of the issue that MS is running into with GP.

Buy 3 different subscriptions?! You only need one. 4 games will come out being more unless you plan on only playing indie games or rather older ones during sales. Other platforms most people have to pay for a online subscription and buy the games...

Balatro, doom, oblivion remake, expedition 33, lies of P (just left Gamepass), …gamepass is putting in work this year! Awesome.
