Xbox needs Narrative driven exclusive games

I'll pass, those games are soo boring, It's like watching a movie where I gotta press buttons every once in a while. I prefer good gameplay that keeps me entertained through the whole story. I feel the new Halo will have all of that and a good online. To me that's where I stopped really buying PlayStation games.

Current PlayStation and Nintendo fans, myself included, say Xbox needs more and better AAA single-player campaign games and RPGs.

Xbox fans say PlayStation needs more online FPS and Games as a Service games.

Perhaps everyone is wrong and all three platforms know their audience.

I think they should focus on there other ips and new ips. Not necessary narrative driven games

They don't NEED to do anything, but personally I haven't been interested in their "exclusive" output since Bungie stopped making Halo games. I've played some of the dross they put out on PC Gamepass but like I said... dross... like it's beyond me that people think Gears 4 and 5 are anything besides archaic relics of a bygone era, Gears 1 barely lasted a year before it was outdone and even at release it was just a slower/worse RE 4 with a cover mechanic. Don't play racing games that aren't called Burnout (so I don't play racing games any more lol) and State of Decay 2 isn't far off from being a mobile game it's so simple and lame. I'd love to get something as good as Halo 3 again but I'm pressing x to doubt and not spending whatever it costs to get a Series X especially when I can test all their stuff via Gamepass for 5 bucks a month.

Not even trolling. I spent about 3+ hrs just reading the lore. Talk about detail, I feel like I'm reading Tolkien
Thanks for that. I'm currently going through the MCC campaigns and I'll have that page open on my second monitor. It seems more detailled than the few Llore videos I have found on youtube.

I think OP should have said "more" or "some new" narrative games.

Xbox is the most EA/Ubi/Activision like of all the console developers. They may have a few narrative driven games but I feel their focus is going to be mostly on online focused BS. They are going to screw it up. Would love to be proven otherwise.
This is my fear

Well they are 30fps so all of it!

But regardless of the frame rate, the core gameplay mechanics have never been particularly strong in the Sony exclusives. They are average to good games hidden behind fluff. But to be fair you can say that about many AAA games these days.
PS4 exclusives have great gameplay
Bloodborne
Spider-man
TLOU 2
UC4
Ratchet and Clank
Nioh 2
Nioh

I really dont want to see MS go the story driven route. I guess a few more to appease the masses but i prefer most of my games have online pvp or coop at least. I like to be in a party, playing with friends when im online so single player games only get played here or there, when nobodys online.

Xbox is on the right path.

They have the best FPS, TPS, Racing games coming from their 1st party...all with online components. The new studios they bought will bolster RPGs and narrative needs.

Could they use more, straight up narrative games? Sure. And that's what we're gonna get (Hellblade 2, Medium, etc.).

I want Microsoft to give me single player story and narrative driven games as well but first and foremost, they have to be in a genre I care about and the quality has to be good or better. I do believe that Halo Infinite, Hellblade 2 and Fable will give this to me.

Sony's single player games have been great for the most part but I have been disappointed with a few (Uncharted 4, TLOUP2, etc.) of them and not interested at all in others.

Right now, im looking at my future log games list and I have the following exclusives for both consoles -

XBOX SERIES X -
- Fable
- Gears Tactics (console)
- Halo Infinite
- Hellblade II: Senua's Saga
- The Ascent

PLAYSTATION 5 -
- Horizon II: Forbidden West
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Returnal
- Spider Man: Miles Morales

There's plenty more to come and the consoles haven't even launched yet. If I compare the above lists to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One seven years ago, oh man, the above list slaughters it so im super hyped for both consoles. I do play way more third party multi-platform games (75% to 25%) which will always be the case for me anyway so unless that declines, exclusives are awesome and everything but they've never been the be all end all for me.

With all of that said, Xbox Series X will be FAR SUPERIOR to Xbox One when it comes to quality single player story and narrative driven exclusives (hell, on paper, it already is) and PlayStation 5 will be better than PlayStation 4.

Regardless of everyone's console of choice, you won't go wrong either way.

Ugh, please keep the softcore cinematic corridor games on one console please. Focus on multiplayer and other styles of single player games. Xbox always did multiplayer better. (Mattrick edition excluded.)

Could you imagine if everyone went that homogenous way. All games are the same except settings and enemies.

The thing is most of Xbox games can be played solo if you choose, or they can be played co-op or multiplayer.

The last thing MS should do is give up their community spirit to make games like TLoU.

I agree, they should do more games like Bleeding Edge

So you want Xbox to use the PlayStation template. No thanks, the third person over the shoulder cinematic experience was already too much this generation, I want more creativity.

Personally INSIDE is my pick for 'Game of the Decade' for the 2010s. I love fixed camera, it prevents nausea.

I don't really feel that would be a smart move.

For one thing "narrative-driven" is an incredibly vague identifier, and basically just means "it's got a story". For another, seeing as these games are more Sony's bread and butter, it'd be wise for MS to do their own thing.

The biggest hurdle they've had this gen is how inconsistent their output was, both in terms of quantity and quality.
Forza has been their one consistent franchise, but it's far easier for people to not like driving than the vague concept of "having a narrative".

Sure...thats why the Switch sold more than the "Most Powerfull Console" :
Big Narrative driven Snorefests.
Remember, like Cuckman said, No Fun allowed.
Now excuse me, i need to replay Breath of the Wild and Odyssey.

Meh, I disagree with most people in this thread, I think they should just copy what Sony is doing. People want third-person narrative driven games and that's what MS should invest in.

Hey you're speaking too much common sense here! I left the Xbox eco system for this very reason, I kept seeing the PS3 drop single player bomb after single player bomb and I'm stuck with Gears/Forza/Halo, no thanks.

I don't think they need the third person narrative focused experiences that sony found this gen. They seem to have a major focus on RPG's and I prefer that over quasi movie games. Plus now they have Hellblade which falls into that category and story rise other than TLOU is better written than most of the sony ones which all feel like B movies at best narrative wise.

Couldn't you also say Sony needs more exclusive multiplayer games and shooters like Xbox with their half a dozen Halo games and Gears games?

Sony also needs more tactical games like Gears Tactics and Halo Wars.

Both have their strengths. Anyway, I'd far prefer a fun game like Ratchet than another narrative single player game anyway.

First of all, i am currently invested in the PlayStation platform, but at the same time rooting for Xbox to step up with Next Gen (competition will benefit all of us).
I like Phil Spencer direction and their approach on making Xbox a platform that is accessible for everyone no matter where you are playing (current gen, next gen, pc, game pass, xcloud etc.)

So to my point...
I believe Xbox is very strong on the shooter side, but lacks narrative driven games in the likes of Horizon, God of war, uncharted, Last of Us etc.
My hope is they will surprise us with these types of first party IPs and tease them sooner than later to get us hyped up for the future.

Bonus: while you are at it, buy WB games unit and get some (timed) exclusives out of that
They know this, but they're gonna keep making crap like Grounded. Lol We shall see how Senua's Saga and The Medium turn out. Those are the 2 I'm interested in.

I believe that is why the Initiative was assembled for.

XGS doesn't need a bunch of games like that. Just a few that stand above the rest should be fine.

A 3rd person Perfect Dark futuristic Spy game in the vein of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory would be a great addition.

Then finish that Shangheist Concept, which should be a 3rd person theft game and XGS could have 2 important 3rd Person story driven, action series in their 1st Party arsenal.

I do think ReCore would've been a good start had it had a good story.

D4 was interesting to me.... Shame they gave up on it.

On The RPG side I wish they would've continued and expanded on Lost Odysee or even Blue Dragon.

However I dont think the Xbox community really appreciate those games like many in the PlayStation Community probably would've.

Ryse got soooo much hate dispite being a pretty solid launch game and still looks pretty good today.

Xbox just needs to find games that make it stand out more outside of Forza and Halo.... Not that those are bad games. They don't exactly need to be story driven but it would be nice if they had a few that were.
They really shouldve stayed with QB, Ryse and Recore. Three solid Ips that had a lot of potential. Thats one thing I hate that MS does. They have these great releases but if it doesnt sell gangbusters first time out, they abandon them. I wish they'd change that shit up in a hurry.

Agreed. This is another thing I was saying. It's like they won't give their franchises a chance to breath and grow because they didn't sell millions in the first month.

I love the story and characters from Gears of War, too. Great game.

I tried to play several gears games on 360.

Fuck they are just mind numbing boring(to me).

I just could not care to play em for long, just boring cover shooters.

Maybe they have more depth, but on YouTube they still look boring as fuck.

Xboxs problem is that if gamer doesnt care about gears-type of games + forza = not much left.

So, yes, deep story driven non-shooters could in theory make xbox even a bit interesting.

Don't confuse games with having GREAT gameplay with those same not also having great lore & narrative. Xbox does both and then throws in multiplayer for those that enjoy it..

It's more than enough that one company focuses on cinematic story driven games, we don't need more.

I really like story driven games as long as the narrative and the story are great and immersive. Outside of HZD and to a lesser extent TLOU. I pretty was underwhelmed by the stories in the PS4 games I played.

I would love to see Xbox make more story driven games, just not a bunch of shallow 3rd person over the shoulder action games with limited gameplay. I want to see new games from some of the devs Xbox has acquired who are legendary for making great story-driven WRPGs.

I agree, they should do more games like Bleeding Edge

And hopefully PS5 will have more exclusive shooters like Predator Hunting Grounds with it's 56 Metacritic score 🤣

Love story driven games. Don't like Sony's for some reason...

I finished all the Uncharteds (hated the excessive amount of shooting) but have unfinished on my PS4 Pro:

Horizon
God of War
Last of Us Remastered (tried to play this on three separate occasions)
Spider-Man

no desire to go back to any of them.

They should have one or maybe two signature single player games, which looks like Hellblade 2 will be one, but not really more than that.

I want RPG's and gameplay centric games with MP elements to replayability, but to be honest the thing I want the most is a proper MMO. I know they are basically ancient and super expensive to make, but there is just something special about them when your in a world with all these people playing at the same time, leveling, and raiding dungeons.

Hell no!! A game similar to a modern PlayStation game.....nah. Let Xbox do their own style. They can have a narrative type ip but let them do them.
