Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

I rolled the dice on it like a year ago along with RDR. One of my few victories in life.

Yeah, I got Red Dead Redemption when it was at it's lowest at 7.50 where it was often priced during sales, but ever since B/C it's been on sale 3 times with the first two being 19.50 and the 3rd being 15 dollars during the Xmas sake

GTA 4 was 5 dollars during the Xmas sale this past December where it's been often priced at that amount for years but now I forsee it going 10 dollars for sales with 7.50 being the lowest.

There is no such thing as "install from disc" with BC. When you put in the disc, it acknowledges it, then downloads the full digital copy.

Can confirm that is you install from the Episodes from Liberty City you get the extra (awesome) Radio Station.

If you Install from the GTAIV disc and have BOGT and LATD DLC, no extra radio station.

Get the disc version if you can for Episodes.

You can't buy BC games using Microsoft credit, unless done directly from an Xbox 360.

It should be noted that in GTA IV there is an in-game marketplace menu in the emulator that lets you buy the two add-ons campaigns with Microsoft credit. You can even upgrade from a disc license to digital license with Microsoft from within that menu.

Yeah, this is kind of the dumbest thing with the system, but I get it to a certain extent.

I wish, as a middle ground, they created a standalone 360 dash emulator where you can launch your 360 games from for nostalgia, as well as purchase shit with credit without having to open another game or even boot up a 360.

Just noticed Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 advertised as a re-release on the store for early March... guessing I shouldn't hold my breath for it coming to backwards compatibility now.

I have GTA IV on 360 but the constant side bullshit means I will never try to go back to it.

Also: I am now in possession of a 360 copy of Blops 2 so I now shall join the chorus or irritating cunts wanting this game made BC.

What's MS logic behind locking the purchase of BC games on the one as credit card exclusives?

They dont. The problem is how the stores were set up. if you have access to a real 360, you can login and use your microsoft wallet/points to buy a game. Everywhere else requires a credit card.

I think this is the explanation:

The 360 and X1 stores are two separate entities. The X1 scans your 360 library and then makes the games you own available on X1 if they are BC. They aren't counted as X1 purchases. When you purchase a 360 game it is processed through the 360 web store because they want to make sure the game is available both on your 360 and on your X1. To accomplish this, they are doing some weird stuff behind the scenes to link your X1 interface to the 360 web store when you buy 360 games. They say that this limitation only supports direct purchase with cards or paypal. Not sure of the specifics of why they can't use your balance but it's supposedly a technical reason related to this cross-store procedure.

Incidently, if not known already, Catherine is finally on sale in UK for £2.24. No Gold membership needed.

<3 for the heads up. It's about time, too! Been checking on it every time there's been a US sale, as that more often than not overlaps with a European discount as well, but not in Catherine's case, for some reason.

How the hell one is supposed to know about a sale like this I have no god damn clue, though, and the total lack of surfacing those things through any of the storefronts is BEWILDERING to me.

because it doesn't work on the 360 web store either so the cross-store procedure is just reflecting that limitation

why that doesn't work (it used to years ago) who knows, but phil spencer said it was a hard problem once

Ever since they switched away from Microsoft Points currency, or whatever it used to be called, and went to real-world currency. No idea why they never decided to implement that, when they made the transition.

GTa IV has a 458.56 MB update for me just now.

Edit: Well it's added a new splash screen at least, much nicer.

2nd Edit: Also didn't fix the no audio whatsoever during twitch streaming unfortunately. My guess is they were going for what GTa V does, and just muting the radio stations, but ended up cancelling out the lot by mistake?

Yeah, it's baffling that the only sales information in the Xbox menus is the Gold sale. Nothing about the others. It's like Microsoft don't want people to know about the standard weekly sales.

Once you click on the Games section of the Store, there is a button for the Deep Silver Publisher Sale at least.

I'd use this, if it would actually provide me the old games I want to play ( in HD if possible ) :

- the old Splinter Cell games.
- the old Silent Hill games
- the Metal Gear Solid trilogy

Mass effect trilogy!!!

Bioshock Trilogy!! ?

Mass Effect 2 and 3 were released in November. And 1 has been out since the introduction. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...re-headed-to-xbox-one-backwards-compatibility

Thankfully, for us, they're providing us lots of games we want to play :D

Ouch. LOL. Along with the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, I'd love to see the Zone of the Enders HD Collection. If they added those two, they could shut down the program the next day for all I care!

There is no mistake. The 360 had no built-in streaming support, so GTA IV had no built-in radio station muting. MS and Rockstar aren't going to go in and monkey around with the code too much in an old game just to add it, so their only option was to just mute the whole game audio during streaming on X1. That can be done in the emulation layer without messing with the game's code, and it avoids nasty legal entanglements. It was probably a requirement of getting this game on BC at all.

I have a GTA 4 disc but like being a digital beast so I need to rebuy

Why isn't GUN backwards compatible. And LA Noire. I could basically get rid of my 360 if those get handled.

Yes!!! I need GUN too. It was a great game. Once that becomes BC and Civilization Revolution does. I can pack up the 360 for good. It's so nice to have GTA 4 again. Microsoft has done a wonderful job bringing these games to Xbox One.

Well, they could have just blocked streaming entirely, like Borderlands does, but I guess they figured video-only streaming was better than nothing.

Installed GTA IV.

Why can't Microsoft title things correctly. It fucks the game library all up.

I have Grand Theft Auto V, Grid 2, the GTA IV.

Whyyyy.

Yeah, this GTAIV nonsense got me last night.
I was honestly frustrated to see its title out of whack with "Grand Theft Auto V."

Man, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 titles are downright retarded, "TC's RainbowSix Vegas" and "... Vegas2"

Like, what the flying fuck

It's the games internal titles as they were on the 360. Grand Theft Auto IV is identified as GTA IV, there's no getting around it.

Publishers can name things whatever they want. MS should have some kind of metadata or whatever to aid sorting hidden in the background. It doesn't even disregard "the" from titles.

Annoying.

The Dead Rising series on 360 is even worse. Please enjoy DEAD RISING, Dead Rising 2, DR2: CASE ZERO, DEADRISING2:CASE WEST and DR2: Off The Record. I have four other games interspersed between them.

Yea Sonic 4 is before Sonic 3, it's a bit silly but I guess these things are all named sometimes years apart they probably don't think it's a big deal.

Was similar on the 360 things were often named such different things to their previous entries in like the save file section.
