Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Yes, the massive conglomerate that is Microsoft is doing an immense favor to console owners by making their old games "playable" on current gen consoles. Something consoles 3 generations past were able to do with ease. But I shouldn't complain about the selection or performance of this freebie.

Well, to be fair, past backwards compatability used a very different method to that which they're using here.

BC is on a clock. We're already 3 years past the 360 era and halfway into the X1 era. Too long and people are just going to not want to play older games that aren't up to snuff with the current era. You need to dump everything now and get people to buy X1's. After a couple more years it won't be a system seller.

Dump everything now and it would be a broken mess.

For the people who want it and understand that it's going to take time it will be a great feature.

As a system seller, it has never been at the top of the list anyway. You buy a new system for new content, but it's great to have access to some old favourites.

is space giraffe good?

I'm not very good at it, but it looks crazy. It's a twist on Tempest 2k, but the scoring is less about playing it like Tempest and more about risking your lives by letting enemies pile up for you to then to 'bull' off or charge at all at once, sweeping them offf of the edge of the structures...something you normally try to avoid at all costs in Tempest. SG is not bad, but it may not be fun and straightforward like its famous predecessor.

I have my [you're?] 360. But I only have so many HDMI inputs on my receiver and I also like consolidation and *gasp* game recording and suspension which is only on Xbox One.

HDMI switches cost $5, and this isn't something that was part of the system day 1. It's an unexpected bonus that's free, no need to freak out about it.

I'd rather they take their time to make sure everything plays well. The xbox one might have fancier graphics but a good game is still a good game if it is emulated well. I definitely want to replay vanquish, dragon age origins, tales of vesperia, metal gear rising among others. I already own an xbox one, I don't need to be sold on one. I also don't think having hundreds of poorly emulated games right off the bat will convince many to buy the system. For someone like me having a bunch of well emulated games over time will convince me that my purchase was worthwhile :)

Mass effect plays like shit, and fair point TW2 is a big title. Anyway, this whole BC thing has been handled poorly, and queue a bunch of blind apologist Microsoft fans blindly defending everything they do.

You guys argue it out amongst yourselves

Nice attempt at backing everyone who disagrees with you into a corner. "If you disagree with me, you're a fanboy".

Fucking hate that posting tactic.

What is going on right now lol?

Last year it was "lol no thats impossible, BC will never be available on X1"

After it was announced it was "Nah, its only select titles, so whatever"

When it dropped it was "See the performance is terrible, and it always will be"

Now in 2016 we have "No, you see Microsoft is just gonna completely drop the whole thing soon, it has a shelf life."

LMAO, I guess new year, new BS.

At least throw in some "No one even uses this" or "this list doesn't have that specific game I want, so its all terrible" for old time sake.

BS. Did you see the reaction during and after E3 last year? People still clinging to 360's were very excited.

I have one - by why run two systems at the same time, or jump back and forth? Plus as noted, the game recording function, twitch streaming, etc - all only on X1.

I replayed DA:O recently. it was ROUGH.

You only need to go back a few years to Xbox Original emulation on the 360 to see what happens. After a couple years, no one wants to go back to those old games.

I don't even mean "dump everything" necessarily - just the most wanted games on their OWN SITE where they ask which ones to put out. They've barely released anything at the top.

No quote but when the say the first month will have 100 games (which it did I'll give them that) people myself included was expecting at least 20 a month and please hold the quote if your just gonna come back with "I never expected 20 titles" because you you know damn well it's a lie everybody thought this feature was gonna be amazing again myself included but the fact is this "free" feature they hyped up to the heavens just has not delivered period.
This is gold.

Some people ........

I have 15 games so far that would have been lost because I don't have a 360 anymore and all I had to do was hit install. No extra effort or money on my end.

Yes, I'm at 73 out of 189 titles live in the backwards compatibility program. (74 whenever Small Arms is actually available to download). That's 39% of my 360 library brought over to my modern console. I would have otherwise been unable to access these games since I sold my 360. Color me ecstatic about this program and its efforts. Are there other games I'd love to have access to? Yup. But for officially being on the market for three months, I feel pretty good at where we are at so far.

Edit: So 74 of my purchases are backwards compatible. Out of 131 total in the program. That sits me at 56%. I must just have shit gaming tastes according to GAF.

Not at all. I was referring to my "3 generations past" statement with my main point being the PS2's ability. I'm not touting either PS3 or PS4's software BC because they are both equally frustrating.

Minor nit, but the PS2 was only 2 generations ago.

My point exactly if you didn't think you could pump 20 to 30 titles a month out why not just say hey there a still baking we'll release as they are ready.

Instead they built this shit up as a 20 titles a month feature when that's not been the case I can see why (myself included) people are upset. don't let us vote on games we want and then turn around and give us the exact fucking opposite blops 2 has like 100k votes same with rdr and you want us to be OK with age of booty? Some Bullshit wing game some interns made? Give me a break the list is a joke period the Witcher 2 is not it's saving grace get over it people ms has failed completely on this feature.

Microsoft never promised 20 titles a month. In fact, MS reps were quoted as saying that was something they couldn't promise.

So no, no one at Microsoft "built this shit up as a 20 titles a month."

Dismissing the arcade titles as "crap" just because they are arcade titles is foolhardy in and of itself (Pac-Man CE DX is one of the highest rated titles of the last generation), but since you seem focused on retail, none of the following can be said to be "bad games."

Assassin’s Creed II
Borderlands
Condemned: Criminal Origins
DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION
Fallout 3
Gears of War
Gears of War 2
Gears of War 3
Halo: Reach
Just Cause 2
LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game (easily the best of the "non talkie" LEGO games)
Mass Effect
Mirror’s Edge
South Park: The Stick of Truth
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas
Viva Piñata: Trouble In Paradise

BC has been available as a feature for a little over two months. All the whining and teeth gnashing over specific games not showing up is silly.

If you think BC doesn't matter and you don't care about it, then why aren't you just playing Black Ops on your 360?

If you do think it matters and you care about it, Black Ops is coming soon.

I assume the audio issues that were encountered when playing Project Gotham Racing 4 from the HDD were never fixed? That would be a great game to play on xb1 but they'll never release it if the audio is still fucked.

Super bummed about the titles and rate at which they are adding them since launching this feature. Maybe my expectations were too high but hardly any of my 360 titles are backwards compatible and by the time they are I just won't be using my Xbox One anymore as I am moving more to PC gaming.

They could probably tell the emulator to slow down the HDD of restrict the transfer rate to make it behave better.
But I wonder if there are still some licensing issues with it, it's got both licensed music and Geometry Wars has been pulled from BC and is listed as Activision being the publisher...

I really wish there was a way to check what 360 saves I have on the cloud. I have no idea when that feature was implemented. Some of my games have cloud saves when I load them up on the Xbone, some don't.

Halo: Reach didn't.

Gears 3 did.

It's all whether you moved your saves to the cloud or used it as your primary storage.
I booted up Deus Ex earlier, but I had never moved that save to the cloud storage.

Hitman Blood Money
Burnout Paradise
Costume Quest 2
Far Cry 3
SSX
Fallout New Vegas

Have all showed their faces whilst I've been snooping around today

Where have you seen this? SSX is one of the main games I want, could care less about much else I just need a snowboarding game on my Xbox One

Tekken Tag 2 does not work anymore

No store download link
game won't start

The game would crash in the custimize character sections (need console restart)
It will probably be released soon though because the everything else was working just fine.

Some games save on the gamertag and can load progresses checking achievements and avatar awards

So, I still have a problem with connecting to the internet while playing BC games. Gives me an error code when I try to connect, no idea how to fix it.

That would make me download 5 additional games to my Xbox One.

Edit: The Witcher 2 is not listed for me :/

People have found that deleting your downloaded X360 Gamertag/profile and redownloading it can fix it. There's also the option of deleting the offline X360 data in your X1 storage via the settings menu.

Gears of War 3 just wiped all of my stats/records/skins/unlocks on Xbox One... :/

That could happen on 360 as well. It's a well known glitch that was never fixed. The only thing you can do really is to exit the game as soon as you see that you're at level 1 again. If you don't play any matches at all so that the server side save can't be updated, you might be ok if you remove the local save file and start up the game again.

Oddly enough, I just unplugged my Ethernet cable and the emulator managed to connect via wifi. Then I plugged it back in, still works. I'll take it.

Witcher 2 runs surprisingly well, too, I might actually replay it now. Though I should probably do that on PC. :lol

If it's like the original Geometry Wars, put your console in Offline Mode and the game will start up just fine. I currently have three copies of Geometry Wars. Never deleting that one.

It's complicated because some 360 games saved to your profile. Others saved to the storage device (disk, USB, or Cloud).

If the game saves to the profile, then your save is in the cloud. It's easy to tell which ones these are on a 360 because while the game is obviously loading your progress or scores, there is no save file to be found on any of the storage devices. AFAIK there is no way to see which games have save data in your profile but it's usually downloadable titles and XBL Arcade releases.

If the game saved to a storage device, then you would have needed to either A) Select Cloud as your storage device when you first started playing, or B) Copy the saves to the cloud manually using the 360's file manager after the fact. I copied all mine soon after BC was announced for this very reason.

If you no longer have a 360 and you can't remember what you did, then I think you're SOL until you download the BC 360 game on the One and try it.

So all of those games were to be expected, out of the games that have no been announced I've managed to work out 75% of them before they were announced.

Keep doin' your thing, man.

To your credit, you're putting the appropriate amount of disclaimers with your statements: "What I've seen", etc
You've never promised anything, just passed along legit intel that may (or may not) come to fruition sooner rather than later.
I respect that.

If the game saved to a storage device, I think from any Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One, you can go into Manage Storage (from the 360 dashboard menu, Start + Select at the same time) and view what is stored out in your cloud storage space.

So happy I moved everything to cloud storage before I got rid of my 360 two years ago. I think there was only a few titles that had locked the save to the hard drive.

Anyone knows why i got two Witchers 2 in my achievement list now? I've one with 0/0G and 0% of progress (with the BC cover) and other with normal progress and achievements... wtf? It's the first time i see this.

Witcher 2? Niiiice. Really hoping Dark Souls pops up eventually. I like the idea of just adding them when they are ready versus trying to do one larger drop each month.

Can't believe people are actually defending this garbage list two months in and it's still a complete joke... I guess if your really into arcade games it's been good. but fuck me the retail games are slacking Witcher 2? Like seriously it's the only retail game

Step your shit up ms this feature has been so hyped up only to fall flat on its face

Edit* just saw they are releasing as ready which is still good but Meh at the same time it's like why wasn't this the policy to begin with?

I bought tons of xbla arcade games on the 360, so getting a bunch of these already is nice.

I really wish there was a way to check what 360 saves I have on the cloud. I have no idea when that feature was implemented. Some of my games have cloud saves when I load them up on the Xbone, some don't.

Halo: Reach didn't.

Gears 3 did.

To check 360 cloud saves on the Xbox One:

1) Boot any 360 BC game.
2) Load the 360 guide.
3) Chose Manage Storage.
4) Pick Saved Games.

Anything with a generic cloud icon is on the cloud server, but not synced to your console. Anything with a color icon is synced to your console.

To move games to the cloud from a 360 memory card or USB stick, you must boot up your physical 360, go to storage and then copy (or move for save locked games) the saves from your memory stick to the cloud. Once they finish syncing, you're done.

As someone else noted, any game that saves to your profile syncs with the cloud when your profile syncs.

Gears of War 3 just wiped all of my stats/records/skins/unlocks on Xbox One... :/

So, just like on a physical 360 then.

Annoying bug. When the local save file is corrupted, you need to delete the save and restart in order to download the backup from the Gears 3 server. If it saves for any reason, it will sync the new one to the server.

You can Google for instructions on how to recover from this.
