Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Forza 4 is probably never happening right? I should probably just dig my 360 out of storage...

They never got cloud storage working on Forza 3/4 I think, so I don't know how they could work on BC even if there weren't licensing issues. Plus, MS probably thinks Forza 6 is the superior option. Just like how you'll probably never see any old annual EA Sports titles on Xbox One BC.

Videogamer saying SSX and Halo3: ODST for BC in June. If true, hopefully the other Halo games will follow. I have the MCC, but I know some fans did not pick it up and still just have the 360 version of some of these games.

they should just offer a free MCC client download, and give you auth to play it if you have own the original 360 version of the game you're trying to play within it. too much work so they'd never do it, but the multiplayer base doesn't need to be split for that game.

ODST does not have multiplayer. Reach is not remastered.

Most the people who bought Halo MCC bought it for Halo 2 and Halo 3 multiplayer.

I'm all for this and not just for the Halo games. Any game that gets a rematser if you already own the 360 disc or digital version should get a discount. Remember they did that at the beginning of this generation with a few games. Plus Dishonored did it last year. Got the X1 and PS4 version for half off is you owned the digital version of the PS3 or 360. Kind of worked out for a lot of Xbox fans because we had recently gotten Dishonored free with GwG. :)

Both the standalone game and the SVC release see BC. Only the SVC release is purchasable however.

Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 were also adding to the BC list after having been delisted from XBLA.

Both Sonic games are available for purchase for me on Xbox.com.

I can only assume that the Golden Axe standalone and packaged game are the same thing and that the package being up for sale is why Sega authorised the BC and why Microsoft worked on it. That the original release was allowed to be made BC isn't really the same thing as the Outrun case. If Outrun were available for purchase in some form, I'd expect that BC would be more likely.

That's without getting into the whole issue of the Ferrari rights having expired. Because publishers have to give permission for their titles to work on Xbox One, I assume that there's specific terms and conditions regarding the platforms that titles are released on - I imagine that Ferrari licensed based on Outrun releasing on specific platforms and would have to grant permission/be paid again for the game to release on Xbox One.

I don't think Outrun's coming to BC. It'd be nice if it did though.

yes it does, dont they run and different resolutions and framerates? completely different packages.

I just bought the ODST add on for MCC last week

I really only care about the campaign

I think my xbox 360 save is about 75% through the campaign which I'm assuming can't be transferred to the Xbox one version? So maybe I'll wait for BC to finish it

Ya the Amazon date in that SSX code is June 14 and ODST June 7. Could be earlier than that mind you since they can still have them work digitally, but they are coming

Seems like MS is going to give digital 360 games a push trying to get that digital % increase this gen brought?

I hope we see retailers sell more games digitally, one of the reasons I think BC is more important this gen than ever is that games are available digital and wont go out of print, so making it easier to get digital games from your preferred retailer is always a good thing.

Only problem is some retailers might not stock a lot of digital games, would be cool if GAME/Gamestop ended up with some sort of self serving kiosk for digital codes, would ensure an unlimited selection of games instead of having to swap games out to make space.... Now that I think about it, why hasn't this happened already? seems like an incredibly easy way to make money for all parties involved and would even work for PC/Steam too.

It's nice to see more XBLA titles coming to XB1 at this rate. I hope OutRun Online Arcade and After Burn Climax come next.

I kinda doubt Outrun Online Arcade will happen, since SEGA would probably need to renew license with Ferrari which more likely won't happen. :/

Why is every Sonic game backwards compatible other than Sonic and Knuckles. It's the only one I own from the 360 days and I want to play it :(

Maybe they're trying to figure out how to make the sandbox work to where the other sonic games recognize you own Knuckles and can use it for the other ones

Yea, the Sonic games were only gone temporarily. Likely a licensing thing with the soundtracks (by Masato Nakamura). The only reason why it's interesting is they became BC during this time window, when they weren't available for purchase. Golden Axe isn't really notable in any way though, as Sega could certainly be selling both versions, and only likely pulled the standalone game because the SVC version obsoletes it.

Outrun is definitely much more of a long shot regardless though. The only thing I think would help if licensing does actually prevent them even making it available for those that already own it, is that MS owns the Ferrari license for the Xbox platform. So they should actually be able to make it happen if both companies want it to be available.

It's almost certainly due to the lock-on feature. Seeing as the 360 VM essentially mounts only a single game to play when loaded, it probably wouldn't be able to determine that the player has Sonic 1, 2 or 3 also.

I'd love to see Afterburner Climax come too (own it digitally) but that one was delisted, so the chances are less than favorable. ::Crossing fingers magic happens though:: Wish I would have picked up OutRun Online when it was available.

If argue that having XBLA games come over is MUCH more important than AAA disc games.

Plus I was a guy who liked playing XBLA games much more than AAA last gen so maybe I'm biased :P

Yes, but why would they use resources on that when they won't get anything back from it?

It's not as if they're going to be making a lot from the likes of Joyride Turbo or Doritos Crash Course, so I'd guess that making money isn't really a driving factor. Could be wrong though!

I think it's a mix between money, consumer happiness, and list padding.

Like, 1st party XBLA games are an easy way to pad numbers and also show they are committed themselves. I doubt they expect to make a lot of new money on Joyride Turbo, but the marketing effect of brining it over is far greater. Being able to say things like "we now have over 200 titles backwards compatible!" And "we are committed to bringing every 1st party IP over" have great resonance with the program more so than a few extra sales.

I believe the same can be said for 3rd parties. Does Konami really expect to sell more copies of Frogger? I'd wager not. But they can point their fans to the program and say "hey we are supporting it and are giving previous owners their games on the modern platform for free!"

Or they're buying extra time to continue polishing the emulator while releasing few titles at a time. XBLA tends not to take a lot of resources comparing to AAA titles. I'm actually am ok with that but sometimes I really want certain AAA titles to come out now. :)

Oh ya definitely. And yep I'm sure they are really making headway with the emulator. I think this is evident because games being released haven't had new updates at all. The older games like defense grid have had at least 2. I'm guessing they are finally at a stable spot with it, which is why we are seeing a more rapid fire release of titles lately.

I'd give a leg for those two (which I own on both PS3 and 360!) and the Cave/shmups titles but they're never happening. They sold below expectations and SEGA has lost the license for both Ferrari and the aircrafts, so it'd be too much work for them to go and change the cars/airplanes to become generic models (like some versions of classic Outrun). It's not happening :(

Tho I have to say I prefer After Burner on PS3 since I can use my flightstick (too bad Outrun doesn't have proper wheel support with FFB on either console)

Ssx is one of the few BC games I care about, great news!! Really in the mood for a good snowboarding or skateboarding game and there's nothing right now

I hope the rumors of ODST are true. I also hope the other Halo games are coming. I have MCC but it would be cool to be able to play with the remaining 360 community.

I'd really enjoy playing Beautiful Katamari again. It was even on sale recently for 75% off.

I really wanted to get it at that price, but I managed to miss the sale somehow. Another game I'd like to see is Naruto: The Broken Bond, but I'm guessing there's a 0% chance of that ever happening.

Does anybody know if people are playing the Left 4 Dead 2 DLC? Just got the base game on my XB1 and I'd rather not buy useless DLC.

If you load the game you can see what is available to join.
There is 2 games of No Mercy going on right now, but that's it from the DLC it seems.

Outrun Online Arcade and Guardian Heroes would seriously make my day.

Someone brought up that MS owns the Ferrari license on Xbox. This is something that could actually happen.

The Xbox 360 has a back compat section and in there it is separated by genre. Under platformers the most recent Prince of Persia is listed. Sorry if this has already been posted.

I think that one was already known, right?
+that one is not the most recent PoP. Forgotten Sands is.

Your right, Forgotten Sands was the most recent, but this Prince of Persia has not been officially announced for back compat. I'm assuming that's why the plays on Xbox One is missing.
