Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

I remember this being an issue when Mass Effect 2 launched... or was it with 3?

Was there ever a workaround that didn't involve using the hard drive?

I don't think we can store X360 saves in the XOne harddrive. This could potentially be the issue holding back ME2 and ME3

It was importing your character from ME1 to ME2. I haven't heard of any workaround other than loading up ME1 on your 360 and playing through the ending again.

Actually x360 saves do get stored locally after they download them from the cloud. They only update from the cloud if you go back to your x360 and play the game again, which changes the timestamp. When you then go back to your X1 and load the game and select cloud save it will prompt you about the cloud and local save being different and ask which one you want to use. However, I don't don't if games that normally read other saves for avatar awards or carry over progress will be able to read other game's saves under the x360 emulator on X1. Are there any games out there on BC at the moment that might be used to test this theory?

Please MS...please...

Change MS to Sega

Ah, okay. My download speed is not the fastest so I'm hoping that maybe I can download it at midnight EST (probably not)

Nah, it won't unlock until 9am PST tomorrow. Abound 5pm UK time. That is when the Xbox One settings API updates.

Edit: I'm wrong, they went live before usual refresh.

That's not the issue, or at least it isn't the ME1 -> ME2 issue.

ME1 creates a save on your local HDD after you finish the game, that happens even if you're using cloud saves.

Manually copying your ME1 save onto your HDD doesn't work for importing into ME2 because that completed save isn't in your cloud storage.

You need to finish ME1 on the same console you start ME2 on. It's only a problem if you're playing on multiple consoles.

People are running into the issue again now because they're playing ME1 on their XB1 and then switching to their 360 to continue with ME2.

My red dead disc won't read in my console, brand new game of the year edition. My luck is awful lol

Undead nightmare works fine but I can't install the main game

Try it again later, the disc may not be recognised yet and some database just needs updating with all the different versions.

My X1 wont read any 360 discs but has no problem reading any X1 blu ray discs. Is it even possible for the disc drive to go bad when it comes to reading one and not the other? Any ideas for a possible fix?

It is very possible, one laser diode could be dead while the other two (Blu Ray/CD) work fine. It's infamously killer with the PSX systems, you usually find them with one of them dead or both.

well, as weird as it might seem, I had RDR disc in the XB1 disc-tray for 3 months, I'm being serious (I buy every XB1 game from the XBOX Store, no physical releases, so I didn't have the need of replacing the disc). So, this morning I tried to launch the game from the disc and it didn't work, I browsed the games from a fellow gaffer who has played RDR to go to its page in the store, and I saw I could buy it, so I went back to the dashboard, ejected my RDR (GOTY) disc, inserted it again and suddenly I got a message informing the title needs an update and it would be dowloaded, 7,5GB approx.

tl;dr > Eject the disc, go to RDR's section in the store, go back to the dashboard and insert the disc. Hope it helps

Do video DVDs work?
No luck tried a few different dvds and even a couple cds. I can hear it start to spin the disc for like half a second then makes the noise like its going to move lens to part of the disc to read it and it just stops. About a minute later message comes up make sure it's a blu ray or dvd movie a music cd or an xbox one game. But blu ray disc movies and X1 games it reads instantly.

Ah ok. I had an issue with PS2s back in the day with that like 3 or 4 just started up with disc read errors on everything. Whats the best route about fixing it? Is it easy to change out the disc drive on your own or is it not worth the time or money you would save and easier just to replace the system especially with the price drops and new ones on way?

Yeah, the laser has gone. You can replace the drive yourself if you find a spare part on eBay (and remember to switch the PCB boards from the drive) or contact MS.

That sucks wanted to play Red Dead without dragging my 360 out, maybe Ill just buy the digital version. Have to repair this or replace it though with all the physical 360 games I have still that are bc. Depending on drive costs maybe Ill upgrade to the s in a month even though prices on Elite bundles may be tempting getting that controller for cheap. At least I have no shortage of options though.
Thanks to everyone for the help though at least I know what needs to be done and it wont be bugging me til I figure it out.

Nothing to do with that. Stupidly they decided to release a preview update at the same time, and I can't even go online. Just keeps saying that there is a problem with the update. Looking around the net seems I'm not the only one.

Sorry if this was recently asked, but has anyone seen anything on the Sonic Adventure games? SA2 has been teased in their xbox ads but I haven't heard anything recent.

Fully expecting them all to be BC around the end of July for Sonic's 25th Anniversary tbh

I had this issue yesterday, had to reset router, then reset console. Worked on reset for me.

Am I alone in wishing that EA would allow MS to bring Kingdoms of Amalur to BC? I mean, yeah, I know the legalities make it incredibly improbable, but I can't help but still hope it comes.

The game seems to get a lot of hate that I've never understood. To me and everyone I personally know who played it, it felt like what should've been Fable 2 mixed with a healthy dose of WoW. It was so much fun, if not a little silly. I wanted the series to work out so badly, because I wanted the MMO, or at least a co-op sequel; but unfortunately, the game was buried, seemingly before it even released. I don't know if it was released at a bad time, or if everyone was saving up their gaming money and anticipation for ME3, but I feel like it never got the fair shake it deserved.

Anyway, I really hope they find a way to make it BC, because I'd love to replay it without having to hook my 360 back up.

You're not alone. I bought it digital when on sale a while ago and have been patiently waiting.
