Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

i dont know why people complain about new games being available as BC. Its not like another game is removed from BC just because a game you dont have any interest in becomes BC.

There's high demand for certain games; and there's a way to express said demand directly to Microsoft. So why does a game like Interpol get the time and resources to be added?

Interpol has 191 votes. I know it's not a real voting system, but it sure has to mean something.

For whatever reason, Thursday's tend to be the day of the week that Microsoft releases BC titles.
I was hoping for more today....LoL

Because these arcade games aren't as complicated to convert to BC and dont require the same hassle to get approved like bigger budget games?

So lets say Skate 3 is done to be released for BC but the publisher EA wants to add it as a bonus deal when you buy Skate 4. Are the people working with BC just going to wait or start getting other games ready for BC?

I dont know the process that Microsoft has to go through to get an OK for a game to become BC. Bioshock 1, 2 and Infinity, Skate 3 have been confirmed as BC for 9 months now. And those games have 30 000+ votes on the feedback site so obviously it seems to be an hassle to get bigger budget games as BC. Even though these games are confirmed to become BC or have many votes.

Of course.

I'm just saying that out the hundreds of games available, Interpol is an odd choice.

There sure is another game that is easy enough to port, is at least a known game among users and, more importantly, belongs to Ms.

Maybe they have a team working solely with Arcade titels? Another team with more complicated games and so on. Obviously the team working with Arcade games are getting approved and can do it much faster than the other BC teams.

My point is that its just tiresome to read these negative comments each time a smaller arcade game becomes Bc. Its not Interpol is BC = My most wanted game will not be BC

Personally I'm really glad stuff like Interpol is getting supported.

Sure that game might not mean anything to me personally, but it will to someone out there. And I'm sure we all have own favourite little obscure titles too. These are the sorts of games where BC is important, to stop them disappearing completely in a way that AAA titles, which will be ported and remastered until the end of time, never will.

likely because it seems that it is in place of another game getting released, since it's pretty regular to release games around the same time each week now. And there are only so many weeks in a year. Etc....

I recently started playing Ace Combat 6 again. I picked up a cheap flight stick. Forgot how much i enjoyed the game. BC would be cool.

If you can get past the story, the gameplay's incredibly fun and it still looks fantastic.

I can't wait

Not what I was trying to say.

Ms is (was, at E3) marketing BC like the second coming of Christ, and after some really big releases, it's quite normal to have more interest and more requests from gamers.

My theory behind all these small games that nobody wants is that they are only doing this to pad their numbers. They want to put out that big PR line: "over 250 titles available!" even though the majority is filler.

Or it could be like the original Xbox emulation where they find out games work based on the work they've already put into emulating other games.

I still think the biggest hurdles MS are having to overcome with BC is the licensing issues rather than the technical ones.

Isn't it more likely that those just happen to be the games ok'd by publishers, rather than a ploy by Microsoft to make decisions involving titles they don't own?

Seems like MS is taking a break after finally giving everyone RDR. :p

Still have quite a few on the list MS like:

Lost Odyssey
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Metal Gear Rising (Never played it)
Ninja Gaiden 2
Nier (Haven't played it)
Bayonetta

And a few more.

The voting system does matter, but it would be absolutely stupid if they literally released in descending order of votes - it doesn't work like that for good reason.

Due to the nature of emulation, even if MS is specifically targeting compatibility for specific high profile games, the work they do to improve the accuracy, performance, and compatibility of the emulator inherently effects other games as well. So for example, simply by getting say, Black Ops II (currently the most voted by a large margin) 95% ready to completion, odds are many small, simple releases become fully compatible purely as a side effect of having a much better emulator build now. And if they happen to test those games (which would have significantly smaller testing periods than something as ungodly as Skyrim) and it works, why not dump it out? It's not because a handful of low profile arcade games are stealing focus from games with 100,000+ votes, they're just freebies that pop out as a result of having an ever-better emulator.

And then, of course you can't ignore the fact that many of the most anticipated games are 3rd party releases, meaning even if they're ready for release MS still has to wait for the publisher's stamp of approval. And even publishers who are on board often want to release BC titles on their own terms, for example as pre-order bonuses for new releases.

But of course, I say this every 5 pages and it instantly gets drowned out by literally hundreds of lists and people asking "is ____ out yet" when they could ask like, Google. >.<

MS has said a few times now pretty clearly that they are bringing EVERY MS Studios published game over via back compat, except for Kinect or games with licensing issues (PGR?). Since this was published by MS it was going to come sooner or later anyways. It could have been a situation such as "hey this just works", whereas a title like Crackdown or Fable might take more time.

People need to get used to these arcade titles from MS coming. It's not really wasted resources since they would have done it now or later anyways.

So it appears Darksiders 1 is getting remastered as well now. Guess we can go ahead and scratch that off the BC list. I wish a lot of these publishers would offer some type of upgrade for people who may already own the last gen version of these games digitally. The word 'remaster' is starting to become an annoyance for me.

Ugh. I never 100% that game but I don't want to start over.

Quick question - is the black crush issue fully resolved in BC Alan Wake or do you still have to resort to increasing brightness?

Got a link?

Now that we got Red Dead Redemption, I want all my Rockstar games - Bully, GTA IV+Episodes, Table Tennis, Midnight Club: LA. The triggers on the controller are so good, I'd like to utilize them for every driving portion of a game!

But bring us Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Vanquish and I really want the first Darkness game on there!

DREAMS. MUST BELIEVE!

I have a weird problem with Red Dead and the Undead dlc. Everytime I try and access the dlc within the game I get a msg stating 'You must be signed into Xbox Live to access this content' despite being logged in on the One.

Anyone else ran into this? It won't let me connect using menu & start either.

I just tried it and Undead worked for me just now, it shows all the DLC installed for me except one outfit.

Just tried Flashback the load after checkpoint crash bug is gone now, yay.

So, just walked out my local Gamestop with their last copy of Lost Odyssey, which is somehow in great condition.

Call me optimistic, but after seeing what the BC team did with Red Dead, I'm really interested to see if they can smooth out LO because it had alot of performance issues, and I don't want to take a chance with a digital release since it was only $10 for it.

Odd, I bought the dlc via the console too. It looks like it downloaded the dlc before I bought it too, I'll delete it and try again.

Although I never expect it to happen, I really wish they would put Divinity 2 Dragon Knight Saga on the BC list. I just never got around to it but would love to someday. Does anyone know much about this game? Is it good enough to spend time on or should I let it go?

And since Skyrim is getting a remaster, I sure wish they would put oblivion in BC.

I played it for a bit when it first became available. Seemed to run 100% normal for me, saw no issues. Game is wonderful.
Rad, thanks. I've been meaning to play it ever since it came out, but reading this today has made me finally decide to get around to it. I'm sure I'll love it.
