Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Played Gears Judgement last night on a whim. Man the BC worked awesome. I would say BC is one of the best things about the xbone now

I didn't see his tweet specifically mentioning this. Where did you see this?

I really want to know when Lost Odyssey will be made available digitally, and I'm wondering if Microsoft has shared a timeframe. The sooner, the better!

Phil said they plan to make games available digitally a while ago, could be something worth tweeting to the BC guys/Phil to see if there's any update on that?

Just dusted off my Japan Xbox Live account to redownload the Japan exclusive (other than preorder bonus) Double Bonus Pack DLC.

Listed here in the Lost Odyssey entry: https://majornelson.com/blog/xbox-one-backward-compatibility/

Not have digital with all this BC being opened up is lost money.

Agreed. I'd buy it digitally if I could, but I'll take the disc version if it's the only way. I see two potential issues 1) legal stuff and 2) Right now, buying any other backwards compatible title lets you use it digitally on a 360 as well as the Xbox One. That wouldn't be the case for this one, unless they figure that part out too, which might not be worth the effort.

Also Toy Story 3 and Guwange.

Guwange you say!!!!, awesome!!

While im thinking abut 360 Live Arcade games, would love to see.....

Thunder Wolves
Omega Five
War Of The Worlds
Zeno Clash 2
Space Invaders Extreme
Hard Corps: Uprising
Orcs Must Die
Daytona USA
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
Kung Fu Strike
Megaman 9 + 10

Someone on Twitter want to ask? (I am not on Twitter)

I feel like disc-only BC is basically BC with an asterisk; those of us that are digital-only don't get the Xbox One experience that we're accustomed to having.
Also, I'd much rather give my money to Microsoft - the people that are making BC happen - than giving my money to GameStop, etc (used purchase).

I hope Digital Foundry revisit this game on Xbox One. I've been looking for videos posted of the game post-update and no one's uploaded any :(

The latest update to it was amazing. It performs better now than it ever did on the 360, and obviously without screen tearing to boot. It's well worth installing, if you're holding off on it.

Aaron Greenberg mentioned that for this game, it will physical only (at least for now*)

* what's in parenthesis is my own addition

As far as giving money to Microsoft, the only thing I can think to say is if you haven't already, buy the DLC that's still for sale. It'll cost you $3.50 total plus tax.

Why do you gotta rain on everybody's parade? You should give lost odyssey a shot if you've never played it. Incredible game.

I may or may not have spent the better part of ten years thinking Lost Odyssey was The Last Remnant. So I was thinking "Man people sure do seem to love that awful SE game with the weird combat."

Worth noting that the $1 one is the only one to give more achievements.

I played multiplayer last night, felt more responsive, smoother since they released that 800MB update that came out recently. It seemed kind of laggy when it first came out, if I recall correctly.

Hopefully the single player is improved as well, felt janky as well. I still have my 360S so I can play on there, but its nice having recording options on the One.

Whelp, looks like I'm going to be going for those
master all skills for each immortal
achievements finally in Lost Odyssey. So glad it's finally here.

Not looking forward to getting lost in the (area spoiler)
Temple of Enlightenment
, though...

Every week there is some new big game being made into a back compat title.

Red Dead Redemption here. Bayonetta there. Call of Duty 2. Call of Duty 3. COD World At War. Lost Odyssey. Forza Horizon 1.

These bombs, whenever they drop, create so much good buzz. I mean they just need to release the following twice a week for sustained good will. It's crazy!

Enslaved Odyssey to the West
GTA IV
LA Noire
Max Payne 3
Modern Warfare 1

You know what else I want to see. Some random cross-gen game being made backwards compat.

It would be like Microsoft coming out and saying: Doesn't matter if the game is niche, or Japanese, multi-disc, has licensed music, has a remaster, or is cross-gen. If it's a 360 game, it'll be BC. With a big asterisk of course saying "If the publisher gives us the okay".

I want to see a game like Watch Dogs, or Forza Horizon 2, or Destiny, even Black Ops 3, getting made into BC.

The Gears 3 crashes are being looked into. From the Xbox Support Forums:

Hey guys!

Thanks for the information. We've passed it along to the appropriate team for investigation. When we have updates we can share, we'll be sure to let you guys know in this thread.

Thank you for your continued patience! :)

Halo Spartan Assault is BC though. Forza Horizon 2 wouldn't even be a bad idea since it's a different game is a lot of aspects.

In their defense, I think the fact that each game is wrapped in it's own slightly different build of the emulator ought to give us an idea on how much effort is involved in ensuring a decent experience for BC games. That kind of work is harder to justify for a title like BO3 which is cross gen. Perhaps early cross gen titles have a better incentive because many current XB1 didn't own their current console at the time, but newer cross gen games are hard to justify putting the work in on.

All that being said I would love full support for any title not prohibited by the publisher. BC by itself has greatly improved my opinion of the XB1 and it has single handedly lifted it in my mind from a vastly inferior device to the PS4 to easily it's equal and the one I spend more time with in all honesty.

Toy Story 3 runs beautifully, but... it doesn't have subtitle??? :(

Lost Odyssey runs way better than on Xbox 360... that's just amazing. Kudos to MS.

So, is Lost Odyssey the largest sized Xbox 360 game? The only other game I know that's on 4 discs is Wolfenstein: The New Order.

I really hope that when they get the majority of games up they switch and do an Xbox Enhanced program where certain special games like Ninja Gaiden Black, and the Kotor games get wide screen rereleases. Man I would love to have the best games from all 3 MS platforms playable on the XB1.

That will be one of the special things about Scorpio, it's ability to play Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games. Wishful thinking of course...but you never know!!!

I would like to see Metal Gear Solid Collection, Sonic Adventure, Mega Man 9/10, ToeJam & Earl, Catherine, and Daytona USA all make the jump eventually. Microsoft has been doing a very nice job pumping these out.

I actually want Fight Night Champion. Game is one of the best looking 360 games.

I'd actually play it now over UFC2 on the XB1. i stopped because once you throw your 10,000th jab, you get an achievement that causes the game to freeze every time you through a jab as if its rechecking the achievement or something. I'm not about to fight a fight just throwing haymakers. That's not real boxing.

Actually considering upgrading my 360 now, just waiting on Blue Dragon. I'd like to see the other 5-10 or so JRPGs that never got PS3/Wii releases but I can't imagine many of them sold well enough to be worth it.

Re-playing the first part of Lost Odyssey, curious how it holds up and how it performs on the new hardware. Both are really positive so far. Still the frame drops during split-screen segments, but I think this is performing better than I recall, and there's no notable load times.

My most wanted for BC are:
- The Orange Box
- Tales of Vesperia
- Bad Company 2
- Ghost Recon Future Soldier
- Splinter Cell Conviction
- Mass Effect 2-3
- Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
- Dragon Age Origins
- Red Faction Guerilla
- Shadowrun

I'm going to check for a cheap LO used copy even if I won't have the time to play it.. :(

I really want to play Lost Odyssey, but I'm all-digital these days and don't really feel like trawling through CEX for a knackered disc copy.

Hope MS get something sorted for games that never had an original digital release. I'd love to buy a digital copy.

I wonder how tricky it is for them? I'm guessing it's sort of a new type of release if they do and it might be quite a few legal issues to sort and get confirmed from the original publishers.
