Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Has there been any word on Ghostbusters 2009 being BC?

Don't think so and the studio that made the game is gone as is the publisher (Atari) having changed hands a few more times though they still exist as a small company focused on "casino social gaming" whatever that is.

It's not impossible MS could devote the resources to make it work but might be a disc only affair.

Aww that sucks. I have the opportunity to buy it from a private reseller for cheap but wondering if I should now....

It's still available digitally, so there is somebody out there making money off of it. Whoever owns the rights to it could sign off on it while they still have the license before it expires. This makes me think of Forza Horizon. A lot of people said it would never happen due to licensing, but MS got it done before the license expired so the game could be preserved. Hopefully the same happens with Ghostbusters (2009). Cause that new game and the Sanctum of Slime game were utter crap. I didn't mind the twin stick shooter control, that was ok and made sense. It's just the games were no fun.

Ok so there's a slimmer of hope by the sounds of. I'll just go ahead and buy it anyways and hope for the best. I really liked that game and it was the closest we ever got to Ghostbusters 3. Plus it seems to go for a pretty penny( on amazon at least) so at worst I'll keep it for collection/preservation reasons.

Ghostbusters Sanctum of Slime was published by Atari as well and it's BC. So it's still a possibility!

I just bought Red dead redemption, Gears 2, and Ghostbusters for $10 total. Can't wait to play these games( and crossing my fingers for Ghostbusters) in BC mode when I get my XB1 on Black Friday. So basically how this works, I just insert the disc and it allows me to download the game file off xbox live, yeah? You're not actually playing these games directly off the disk?

Correct. The game plays entirely off the hard drive. The system uses the disc simply to act as a license allowing you to launch/play the title.

hope yall got your blue dragon discs off ebay/amazon etc early before MS makes it BC.

its gonna be Lost Odyssey all over again with the prices heh

That's actually a good point. I bought Lost Odyssey at launch, but never got around to buy Blue Dragon.

e: Just bought a copy for 12€. Even if it won't be BC, I still got the Xbox 360 plugged in.

Tbh I think people should keep an eye on digital and physical prices and pick games up that they're interested in. Not just blue dragon but any game. Once it goes bc the value goes up like rdr.

I know I've bought a few games digitally anticipating bc. At this point you can probably make an educated guess on which might go bc and which is completely ruled out so I don't think there's much risk to it. It's just a long waiting game but it's better than potentially paying 2 and 3x what you could have gotten it for.

I'm unexpectedly stoked for Orange Box. I believe on the US market the digital version is $20. I'm considering it, even though I already have the disc.

Voice acting contracts were probably written per platform and that might make it too expensive / likely to lead to a law suit.

if that were the case, that could affect all the middleware used in many 360 games. Things like Wwise (audio) are per platform. Since its still a 360 version, BC games should be considered as part of the original release.

ORANGE BOX!!

I swear it was $5 recently (on sale). I hate that they jack the prices back up to the highest possible when games are BC. $19.99 digital. Shouldn't be that much for a 2007 game.

Is it not possible to take screenshots of Red Dead Redemption in BC mode? I can't see the options and read that it's up to the publishers to enable that feature for BC.

Changing the display type from Television to Computer Monitor results in much better saturation and black levels for me when running The Orange Box on my LCD TV.

Thank you.

I'm really sorry for the confusion. I didn't realize that Game DVR is disabled, when you stream the game to your PC. What a shame.
I think they use the same hardware they use for taking screenshots and video's to stream the game to your pc. But yeah, it's a pity.

On the other hand it's quite easy to take screenshots and video on your PC ;)

OMG I just started playing Gears of War 2 and the framedrops are very noticeable. From what I've read it's even worse in GoW3 and Judgment. :/ That really sucks.

That makes perfect sense, yes.

I was streaming over WiFi to my Surface and had to drop the streaming quality, so taking screenshots from there wouldn't have been optimal.

Like you said, it's a pity. But at least it's not some kind of block that's been put in there by the publisher.

They fixed all the Gears games and Halo Reach. Did your Gears 2 get a new update?

Probably. I installed it a week ago and I'm always online. It's not something that's interfering with the gameplay (so far ;)), but like I said it's noticeable. The biggest one I had was in the Desperation mission when the airstrike begun. I know Gears 1 isn't as advanced technologically, but I managed to complete the BC version without any visible slowdowns.
