Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Nothing today? Thursday's game better be a big title if it's going to live up to Phil's comment. I'm hoping for MW3.

Watch it be a Lego Marvel game.

I had no idea you could be tazed in Skate 3.

Thanks to watching my 9 year old daughter playing it, I just learned you can.

I cracked up when it happened.

All my games need to become bc asap. The disc tray of my Xbox 360 is slowly "dying".

I completely forgot about this. My disc drive on my 360 doesn't like to open. I can mess with it a bunch and sometimes get it to open, but it's not reliable at all. I was thinking about booting it up because I want to play Space Marine, but I guess I'll wait and hope for it to become BC.

I mean I don't want to complain because they've been doing a great job, and it's free. But it's just annoying when you get the urge to play that one game, and it's not BC yet.

Both the button on the console and in the OS? Might be dirt on the button contacts if you can still open the drive with the OS.

Actually I guess it does open, it's been a while and I had forgotten all the details.

It used to not open either way. I could hear the drive try to open, and then hear it reset after a few seconds, at which point it would read the disc as if the drive had just been closed. I watched a video on how to fix it, and open the Xbox to do so. I must have messed something up when putting it back together because now the button on the console does nothing at all. The OS option to open the drive works just fine though.

My 360'S drive does hardly ever open when the console is standing vertically. But if I take it and lean it over to one side, around 45° is enough, it will open on the first try. I think it's the rubber belts on the drive that are getting old, or the grease in the cogs that move the tray might need new grease because the old grease has dried up. I won't bother opening mine to check it out, though, as I can now always open it reliably.

Try leaving a disc in. It works for me.

If you pull the face plate off your 360 there's a manual disc tray release button. Its hard to reach and you need like a unraveled paper clip or something very slim but I did it on my Black elite 360 for 2 years or so

Just turn it to the side and press the eject button while giving the console a tap above the drive. Works 99% of the time if the drive is REALLY stuck. Mine doesn't need the tap yet lol.

Fixed the tray of my 360 today. Was a thing of five minutes. Here's how:

Open the tray, with a tweezer take a hold of the rubber band in the middle of the opening in the drive and pull it off its "flywheel", give the rubber a good cleaning with some alcohol or acetone, clean the "flywheel" inside the drive with a q-tip dipped in the cleaning fluid. Put the rubber back in its place, done.

Shaking my head at myself for not doing this earlier, ans it's cool that I didn't have to disassemble the 360 for the fix.

I'm scared of breaking anything, but I'll have to do it one day.

Nah, you won't break anything. You can't even reach the lens with the method I explained. And you won't break the rubber because it's quite strong, and comes off without really having to pull hard on it. Trust me, easy and safe five minutes job. The wheels are also right behind the tray opening, so you don't need surgeon hands and can see what you are doing.

I don't have a 360 to hand, but is there not a little tiny hole big enough for a pin on or near the drive tray the same where there is on a PC drive tray?

Also, FYI: rubber does not fare well long term with exposure to cleaning fluids especially those containing solvents or alcohol.

There's this hole, yes, but it's hardly elegant having to do that every time you want to play a game. And on the original 360 you have to take the faceplate off, and there are two eject holes you have to tap in turns, and it's a PITA. And I'm not really worried abut the rubber's exposure to some alcohol. My console is now eleven years old, and it's the first time I had to do this procedure, I really doubt the console will live long enough to need me doing this ever again :)

But you could also just clean it with some soapy water, of course.

Edit: if you are really worried, you can also just buy replacement bands.

I'm looking at the credits of Asura's Wrath; couldn't wait for it to become bc. One hell of a game.

Edit: Great action.

Really hope Phil's trip to japan involved heading over to Capcom headquarters and discussing their anemic support of BC and how to fix that.

asura's wrath is BC? when did that happen

Its not, think they were saying they couldn't wait for it to become BC to play it again.

Games that seem like a no-brainer for BC:

Assassin's Creed: Rogue
Batman: Arkham Origins
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

All of these came out at the tail end of next gen, and many people missed them.

Pre Sequel is available on current consoles.

But I agree they should also be BC. I want everything to be BC

Nope. As far as Live is concerned, they are playing on a 360.

Correct, Backwards compatibility in XBO is a virtual Xbox 360. The whole console OS and not just the game. That's why the file sizes are larger than the same xbox 360 disc because you are downloading the complete Xbox360 OS every time for each game.

Not solo. You have to add the whole Handsome Collection to your gamercard again...
I own the Handsome Collection but have never played the Presequel, and it does not appear on my gamercard. It is a distinct executable from Borderlands 2. Unless you are saying they should just sell the games separately, and yeah, they should.

If Splinter Cell Blacklist ever becomes bc, it probably will be a 10GB+ download. I think that the HD Texture Pack will be included.

btw: OP should be updated.

Is there a way to tell if someone on your friends list is playing a game on a 360 or playing the BC version on Xbox One?

Outside of asking them, I think not.

Is there a reason it matters?

Yes. If they are playing an Xbox 360 game on their Xbox One that has not been announced yet. This was one of the ways EvB and others found out what some of the BC games were before announcement. MS did go to most of these people and have them hide their activity.
