Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

I guess those 4 games last Thursday were considered good enough for a week?

The problem is that two of those were just shitty movie tie ins and the other two were DLC.

:/

I never owned a 360, so I don't know. How do OG xbox games run on 360? Are they repackaged as a 360 game? Is it a separate OS it boots into?

I was just wondering depending on the method, if they could just run OG games the exact same way they do 360 games on the one.

OG Xbox on 360 was full emulation (ran from the actual discs) and was relatively fairly custom emulation for each game, and every game pretty much had glaring bugs or other issues because it was pretty much "we got it running" and then they moved on.

It would also boot you off Live whenever you entered an OXbox game, although if that game supported Live, you could sign back on from within the game, and it'd show you as online in that game to 360 players. You could even text message between 360 and OXbox live games, although that mostly only worked with Halo 2 and a few other games reliably.

Also, as far as we know, nVidia got a payment per 360 that included a hard drive because that's how they distributed the emulator, and there might be drama, which could be holding up bringing OXbox emulation back.

In theory any One emulation would be a whole new generic emulator so that OXbox games could get DVR and all that jazz.

For what it's worth, the only OXbox game on Rare Replay was outright ported.

I believe Major Nelson said it once in a tweet but I'm having trouble finding it.

I thought they officially said that announcements would come whenever and we shouldn't expect particular days, even though that is what has happened for the most part.

EDIT - Here we go:

Starting today, we'll release titles as they become available, rather than a set monthly launch date. What this means for you is that you won't have to wait to find out the latest titles; we'll release whatever is available, when they're available, once each title has received the engineering and publisher stamp of approval.

We try not to hold games, but if a game is close to being a new GwG, we do hold until announce, so gamers don't feel ripped off later.

When asked about why Tuesday and Thursday are the normal announcement days -

It is how we optimized publishing tasks. Mon/Fri are bad days work-wise for that stuff. And Wed ends up redundant. Mon - teams need to work over the weekend. Fri - if there are issues, teams need to come in over the weekend. We'll do it if requested by the publisher. But most want us to release during the week as well for the same reasons.

With all the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary stuff going on I'm really hoping the FFXIII trilogy goes BC relatively soon. Still need to play through that trilogy fully.
