Xbox One gets external storage, real name support, auto-sign in w/June system update

that's also supposed to be the update which fixes the issue some people have with their TVs (mostly panasonic from what I heard) not getting turned on via kinect, long awaited fix!
can't wait

But that's not fun, its better to be faux concerned about what PS4 doesn't have than to rejoice you have something.

Still no 'Xbox, screenshot" voice command?

Sigh...

Having it as a voice command really wouldn't work, considering the time it'd take to quickly say it and have the console recognise and process what you've said (especially since it waits a second or two to see if you say anything else), you'd miss the screenshot opportunity. I think double-tapping the home button without an app snapped would be the best way.

Refer to my previous comment before trying to insult me, thanks.
The point is, you cannot possibly say that Sony and MS are in the same place when it comes to system features and updates. MS are comfortably ahead and have been doing a much better job, as they've run public betas, they have an area of their forum where you can provide feedback and talk to the devs and most importantly, they have prioritised many of the features based on what people have asked for.

The Xbox One is ahead of the PS4 when it comes to online notifications, game organisation, suspend/resume for games, voice chat quality (which really is loads better), multitasking (with all the snap stuff you can do and switching between apps instantly), voice controls, media stuff, the second screen experience (not Remote Play). That's why PS4 gamers are requesting features from the 360 and Xbox One as the things they want the most. The thing Xbox One owners seem to want the most is better media functionality and more apps like BBC iPlayer and stuff, and they certainly won't find that on a PS4 which has fewer media features and fewer apps.

At this rate, maybe by next year we'll get an update so my controller flashes when battery is low instead of surprising me by turning itself off mid-game.

Gotta love that last gen tech.

Agreed. When I was playing Titanfall it was incredibly aggravating when my controller would just shut off with no warning and get me fragged 2 or 3 times while I fumbled for batteries. What an incredibly stupid oversight.

From what I understand the hdd will already have your profile on it.

You still need to sign in to prove it's you.

This is also a great way to take your content to a friend’s house and get straight into a game directly from an external drive. You’ll need to sign in to Xbox Live if you’ve purchased your content digitally or insert a disc to verify your game ownership when you take your content on the road. The great benefit here is there’s no need to wait to re-download your game and all the DLC

Don't make that a hardware thing, put a notification on the screen instead. I'm not looking down that often.

There is a warning of sorts - the rumble feature of the controller turns off when the batteries are nearly dead. They need to sort that out and include proper notifications though!

BruiserBear gets what he wants but Miles is still left in the cold.

Any day now, I can feel it.

I think my major request will never be filled. I just want the gamma fixed in games that use the hardware scaler. MS has ignored it for the entire 360 generation as well.

This confirms to me that the only reason they left out auto sign-in was to provide a reason to keep Kinect plugged in.

Still intrigued by "hero stats" ... especially because I have been thinking that Microsoft shoud upgrade its achievement system, that number is absolutely meaningless today.

This is all I can find on that: -

Is there a more robust stat tracking for seeing how long you have played each game?

WHITTEN: In Xbox One you will find a consistent and powerful experience for tracking your own activity and progress in any game or app, as well as comparing your stats with the people you care about. Some of the interesting gameplay statistics you can track include how long you have played and your overall progress on each game. In addition to this, each game and app will be able to showcase compelling and engaging aspects of their title (we call these hero stats) and display this directly on the Xbox One dashboard.
Even after reading that, I still don't really know what they are, lol. Any ideas?

I'm not sure what hero stats are, but all that smartglass stuff has been in beta for ages so I don't think it is anything mindblowing

It's probably just those mini-leaderboards

Oh...so I'm not the only one. They talk about "hero stats" as something that has been always there and it is just coming to smartglass now. But I guess nobody knows what it is.

One at a time, man. It only took... What, seven months for BruiserBear to get his requested feature? So if that's the expectation one of you should have it by the end of the year.

The store needs a major overhaul

I don't find it too bad actually. You get a lot of information on games and get links directly to broadcasts and videos. The DLC is well organized too. I think it just needs better organization on the main store page more than anything else.

My iPhone 5s doesn't charge when plugged into my Xbox One. Anybody else have this problem? All my other consoles charge it PS4/x360

With this external HDD support, MS should set up retail kiosks like RedBox where we can purchase/copy games. Helps folks who want to go digital without worrying about ISP caps, etc.

I don't think so. MS ignores it even exists. They fixed the sharpness issue with the scaler but ignored the gamma one. I won't even consider multi plats on XB1 because of it.

Bingo. I'm pretty sure this is the correct answer... :(
Yes, that's probably it! They added those in the SmartGlass beta, although some of the data is inaccurate, for instance, it says I'm a generation 4 pilot in Titanfall still, when I'm actually generation 5 level 50.

Right now, if you install a game off a friend's disc, you can then purchase the downloadable version and it just unlocks the game that's already installed on your drive so you don't have to download it. Being able to go to a store and do it with any game would be handy for sure though.

It's the stuff smartglass always displayed since launch.

So for example Wolfenstein The New Order shows

Killed Commandants 24

Stealth Kills 86

Forza Motorsport 5 for me

Driver Level 391

Credits gained 43734978

Those are hero stats.

Titanfall seems to always be a gen behind...if you are gen 2 you are gen 1...could be respawn's issue

I assume those are just the stats they provide from each game. Smart glass shows 2 of these and then more info is in the background. Trueachievements.com pulls all that and has leaderboards for each game on a number of specific in game stats pulled out by the system.

Here are some from trueachievements that they pull from the x1 backend.. so I assume the DEV picks what they want to be the "Hero" stat for their title and it is then reported like time played.

Hero stats are the two stats that each game can include on their achievement main tile. For instance, Child of Lights are "Battles Won" and "Skills acquired" which display your totals for that. Titanfall's two hero stats are "player generation" and "player level".

It's nothing too exciting but pretty cool if they expand upon them and make the comparisons better.

Edit: as stated above, they currently only display two hero stats, but as you can see on trueachievements, they are scraping the system so can pull your other hero stats in as well. If imagine they will expand the console side to show you more than two.

You're the first poster I thought of when I saw it.

I'm pretty sure this problem is built right into the SDK. It's present in all XB1 games, but some developers adjust for it better than others. Check out the Digital Foundry face-off for Rayman Legends. It's 1080p and it's black level is darker than the PS4 version.
